Jack London was a famous American writer. He was born on January 12, 1876 in America. His family was very poor, and Jack had to leave school to make a living when he was a teenager.

But Jack loved studying, he worked hard to make living and finally he was able to return to school. He tried very hard at every subject, and he was especially good at literature.

Harland Sanders was born in the USA in 1890, but his childhood was not a happy one. His father died when he was only six, so his mother needed to find a job. She went to a shirt factory and Harland stayed at home to look after his younger brother and sister. That was when he first learned to cook.

He left home when he was thirteen and worked on a nearby farm. After that he had a lot of different jobs and in 1930 he became a service station manager in North Corbin, Kentucky.
