How do you get to school every day? By bike, bus or are you driven by your patents? In Chongqing, there was 3,000 school buses on the road by the end of 2011, according to the newspapers. These school buses look just like the American school buses: yellow with a big nose, warning lights, a stop sign and emergency exits(紧急出口).

In February 2010, the Chinese government issued(发布) the first ever standards for school bus safety. Since then, more yellow school buses can be seen on the road.

In China, besides the bus driver, there should be an adult(成人) on the school bus to watch the students. If there are more than 40 students, two adults are needed. The students usually rest or recite texts on the school bus.

In the US, yellow school buses are very popular. There are about 480,000 school buses in the country. Usually the older kids sit in the back of the bus. The younger kids sit in the front. Some kids listen to music or talk on their phones. Others just sleep. The only adult on the bus is the driver.

The school bus is important in students’ everyday lives. It can help the environment. A school bus saves a lot of gas as it can carry a lot of people. School buses also keep children safe. A child is 13 times safer going to school by school bus than any other way.
