Katrina L. is like any other girl today: she talks on the phone, deals with schoolwork, and has some friends. Unlike other girls, however, Katrina takes medicine every morning.

Rock climbing, cycling, and downhill racing are some of the other activities she is able to take part in. Katrina also volunteers at a community centre, helping other kids with disabilities.

The future of most people with spina bifida is excellent, and Katrina is thinking about hers. “I want to be a doctor of some kind," she says, "though I'm not sure what kind yet.”
