A bear and a monkey were good friends. One day, they took a walk together. The monkey said to the bear, “Look, here are some banana trees on the other side of the river but I can’t swim. Would you like to take me there on your back?” “Good, my friend,” said the bear.
Soon they got to the bank. The monkey climbed up a tree and began to eat bananas. He threw the skin (皮) of the bananas to the ground. The bear could not climb up the tree. He walked about and then lay down to sleep. When the monkey found the bear asleep, he shouted, “Stop, stop! Someone is eating bananas!” The owner came and he saw the bear and the skin of the bananas. The bear was beaten (被打) and he felt sad. When the bear took the monkey back, he asked, “Monkey, why did you shout?” The monkey said, “Oh, I have this habit and have to shout.” The bear understood and said, “I have a habit, too. Read the following passage and answer the questions.
In South Korea, smart-phone cases come with rings fixed firmly on the back to prevent clumsy owners from dropping them. This makes people look like they are literally married to their phones. In many of Seoul’s most Instagrammable(网红)coffee shops, couples on dates spend vastly more time looking at their screens than at each other. The outcomes go beyond the potentially serious consequences for romance.
Walk around the streets of Seoul or any other South Korean city, and there is a real risk of bumping into people whose eyes are glued to their smart-phone screens. Insurers estimate that around 370 traffic accidents annually are caused by pedestrians using smart-phones. That figure does not include those who bump into lamp posts and the like while perusing the latest cat videos.
The government initially tried to fight the “smornbie”(a combination of “smart-phone and “zombie”) epidemic by distributing hundreds of stickers around cities imploring people to “be safe” and look up. This seems to have had little effect even though, in Seoul at least, it recently replaced the stickers with sturdier plastic boards.
Instead of appealing to people’s good sense, the authorities have therefore resorted to trying to save them from being run over. Early last year, they began to trial floor-level traffic lights in smomibe hot-spots in central Seoul. Since then, the experiment has been extended around and beyond the capital. For the moment, the government is retaining old-fashioned eye-level pedestrian lights as well. But in future, the way to look at a South Korean crossroads may be down.
Answer the following questions in COMPLETE sentences:
1.According to the passage, why do people look like they are married to their phone in South Korea.?
2.How many accidents annually are caused by pedestrian using smart-phones?
3.In many coffee shops, what do couples on dates usually do?
4.Distributing hundreds of stickers around cities had little effect on “smombie” epidemic, did it?
5.What measures did the authorities take early last year?

On March 15, many people in the UK wore a plastic red nose. It wasn’t just for fun. They were also raising money to fight poverty (贫穷) in the UK and Africa.
This day is called Red Nose Day. It is a huge charity event in the UK every other year. On this day, people do something funny for money. You might play tricks in the street to make people laugh if they pay. Or your friend might sit in a bathtub full of tomato sauce for an entire day. People do these things to raise money.
Besides Red Nose Day, there are many other creative ways to help people in need around the world.
Many charity organizations run charity shops in Western counties. The shops sell second-hand goods donated by the public such as books and clothes. Many young people love these shops. They can often afford the clothes there. The first modern charity shop was opened by UK Oxfam in 1948 and is still in business. In total, the UK has more than 10,200 charity shops.
Another way is for famous people to hold concerts. They can usually raise much money for charity. For example, the Irish singer Bob Geldof and Scottish musician Midge Ure organized the Live 8 concerts in 2005. The theme was poverty in Africa. There were 10concerts in different cities at the same time. Over 1,000 musicians performed to ask people to give their names if they donate money, which they made into a “Live 8 list”.
In China, there are many charity organizations as well. For example, the Red Cross of China helps people during disasters. The Love Without Boundaries (边界) helps China’s orphans (孤儿).

In most towns today, you can see teenagers standing over electronic machines with flashing lights, shooting at spaceships from other planets and dropping bombs on strange monsters. The machines have names like Space Warrior, Dark Invader and so on. It used to be believed that damage was done only to those strange visitors from outer space, but now it seems that they are striking back.
Many teenagers like electronic games so much that they can't stop playing. They spend hours tightly holding the joystick controls and constantly pressing buttons marked” fire”. They develop pains on their fingers because of the constant pressure. They play and play so that the pains have no chance to cure properly. The rapid wrist movement required to guide the spaceship across the screen causes another problem: The muscles of the wrist and arm become so inflamed (发炎的)and swollen that they press against the bones. This condition is what doctors now call "Space Warrior's Wrist". Other strange aches and pains also are likely to affect the elbows and shoulders.
Another even more alarming problem is shown by the case of a 17-year-old girl which was recently in the British Medical Journal. She had been playing various kinds of electronic games for more than two hours a day. Her father repaired games and machines and she could use the cassettes and systems in his workshop as often as she liked. Our local Community (社区) Youth Club is a very popular organization with young people in my town. I have been a member for four years now and I've taken part in a lot of interesting projects. These include fun activities such as holiday camps and discos. We have even made a video.
But it isn't all just enjoyment. We have also started doing social work to help people in our neighbourhood. We have organized activities for small children during the holidays. We have also formed a special support group to help young people stop smoking.
We are especially proud of the most recent group we have created. It organizes regular visits to the local home for the elderly. This idea came from a school visit to a home for the elderly. My class spent an afternoon at the home and everyone found the visit very rewarding (有意义的).
The old people at the home were excited by our visit. They were very talkative (健谈的) and they told us their personal stories. During our visit, the home was full of the sound of laughter. We sang songs and played games with the old people and had tea together. But we realized that life wasn't always easy. Some of them were in poor health and were very unhappy. They couldn't go outside and the visits by children brought some sunshine into their lives.
Many young people like me have very little contact with elderly people. As a result, we have a lot of wrong ideas about them. We have little or no idea of the kind of lives they lead in the homes. After this visit, my friends and I decided we should do something to help improve the quality of their lives.
Since the creation of our visiting group over twenty volunteers have joined us. Up to now, we have organized three group evening parties and a concert. But I think the individual (单独的) visits are the most important. Club members regularly visit old people and everyone finds the experience rich and rewarding.
