In recent(近来的)years, many students from China come to the UK to study in schools there. Over 4,000 new students came in 2018. Most of them decide to study in a UK university(大学) after studying in middle schools in the UK. Studying in the UK will be a special and interesting thing. Unlike China, the UK isn’t a large country. Its furthest mainland points are only 1,350 km away. We can visit many great cities in a short time, such as London, Cambridge and Oxford.
Life for a student studying in the UK can be very exciting. Children start school at the age of 4. At 11, children go to middle schools where they may study 10 subjects. They are math, science, English, history and one or more languages (语言) such as French and so on. Classes in the UK schools often have between 20 or 30 students. Most schools do not make students sit in the same seat for every lesson.
Children do not just learn from books or a screen, but enjoy various sports as part of their school day, such as soccer, basketball, horse-riding and so on. They can join clubs after school.

China Youth says that more and more girl students have entered colleges to study in recent few years. As we know, once the number of boys was larger than that of girls, and the boys did much better than girls in our country for a long time. Now things have changed a lot.
In recent years, the proportion of girl students is growing fast. In 1998, about 39.7% of college students were girls. In 2000, it was 41.07% and in 2001, the number was 42.14%.
There are several reasons for this.
Firstly, there is little difference between boys and girls in their intelligence(智力). That’s to say, girls are as clever as boys. And boys have more interests than girls, so they may not do well in their study.

Today I went to Sam's school in the UK. It was really different from my school in China.
Girls wore grey skirts and white shirts, boys wore grey trousers, and everyone wore the school tie.
Some of Sam’s lessons were a bit strange for me. We were reading Shakespeare in the English lesson, and there were quite some old words like “thou” and “thee” to mean “you”. In history we studied 20th Century China. It was strange hearing a foreign side of history—and hearing English people trying to say all our Chinese names!
Classes were also a lot more relaxing than in China. Teachers were called “sir” or “miss”, everyone shouted answers and raised their hands in classes. It was more like a debate than a class. A bell rang at the end of each lesson and everyone jumped up to go to the next class.
At break we bought potato chips and cookies in the dining room. Lunch was later than in China at 1 o’clock. We had big plates of pie with carrots. For dessert there was hot sweet rice called rice pudding.
It was good that I'd had an excellent lunch, because at Sam’s school, Monday afternoons are taken up with sports.
I played my first game of netball—a bit like basketball, but with some differences. Fortunately(幸运的是), I’d had a quick look in the rule book before I tried to join in the game.
1.Paragraph 2 shows that ________.
A. They wear uniforms in Sam's school
B. lessons are different between schools in China and the UK
C. there is a break of 30 minutes every day in the school
D. sports take up much lime in Sam's school
2.The underlined word “debate” in Paragraph 4 means ________.
A. fight B. exam C. discussion D. suggestion
3.What class does Sam have on Monday afternoon?
A. Maths B. History C. PE D. Music
4.What’s the best title for the passage?
A. Relaxed classes in the UK
B. Clothes, food and sports in a UK school
