As we all know, bikes are usually made of steel. But can you imagine that they can also be made of bamboo? Do you want to make your own bike with bamboo? You can do it at the Bamboo bike Studio in New York. People can learn how to make their own bamboo bikes there.

The studio is also helping build factories in Ghana, a country in western Africa. The factories will make cheap bamboo bikes.

Bamboo grows everywhere in Ghana. It also grows in America. Bamboo is a grass, not a tree, and it is one of the fastest-growing plants in the world.

Bamboo is as good as steel for building a good bike. Mary Odlin works at the studio. He says a bamboo bike is the wonderful everyday bike.

In Ghana, bikes are very popular. Few people have money to buy a car. Bikes are useful and people use them to carry most of the country’s food and other goods.

The people of Ghana are also too poor and they can’t build factories to make steel bikes. But making bamboo bikes is cheap. Odlin plans to show Ghanaian workers how to quickly make bamboo bikes. He says each worker can make about four bikes a day.

“In America, we have too many goods,” says Odlin. “So we don’t appreciate (感激) what we have. In Ghana, people don’t have many goods. We want people in America to have a better relationship with their goods and people in Ghana to have more goods.”
