The riddle of the camel race
Once upon a time, there lived a very cruel sultan(苏丹). This sultan ruled his kingdom with an iron fist (拳头).It was an iron fist, because he had lost one hand in a sward (剑术) fight ,the doctor fit him with an iron hand. But once a year, on his birthday, the sultan had a bit of fun. He set a challenge for some of his subjects(国民). No one turned down (拒绝) the challenge because to do so meant many years in prison—or worse...
As the sultan’s next birthday approached, everyone started getting scared. Luckily, most people had nothing to worry about. But two of the sultan’s subjects, Ali and Baboo, had a lot to worry about—for they were told to go before the sultan.“The winner of the race is the person whose camel comes last!” he told them, with a huge grin (咧嘴笑) on his face.“The loser will get five years in prisonand a tattoo (纹身) of me on his chest to remind him of his failure(失败).”
When they were ready, they were given the signal to set off. They did so, but very slowly. Neither of them wanted to get ahead of the other. They didn’t know what to do. They knew they had to finish the race or else they would be in trouble.
The kingdom’s wisest person, a woman named Shiraz approached the men and whispered something in each man’s ear. They raced towards the finish line as quickly as they could. One man could not stand(忍受) the tension(紧张状态)。He asked Shiraz what she had told the camel riders. She said “I just told each of them to get on the other man’s camel. After all, the winner is the person whose camel comes last.”

Once upon a time there was a baby eagle. He lived in the nest on a cliff (悬崖), overlooking a beautiful valley with waterfalls and streams, trees and lots of little animals. The nest was the whole world to him. It was warm and comfortable, had a great view. And even better, he had all the food and love and attention that a great mother eagle could provide. The baby eagle grew strong and he felt good all the time.
But one day, the mother came back home and said,“Eat this, and it’s your last meal,” she said. The baby cried, but he ate and thought about what had happened. Just then, surprisingly, the mother pushed him out of the nest. He fell, head first, faster ad faster. He screamed. “I’m dying!” he cried. He looked up at his mother, “How could you do this to me?” He looked down. The ground rushed closer, faster and faster. “This is unfair!” he screamed.
Something strange happened. The air caught behind his wings and they snapped away from his body, with a feeling unlike anything he had ever experienced. He looked down and saw the sky. He wasn’t moving towards the ground any more, and his eyes were pointed up at the sun.
“Huh?” he said,“ What is going on here?”
“You’re flying,” his mother said.
“This is fun!” laughed the baby eagle, as he soared (翱翔) and dived.
“Yes, it is!”said the mother.
