When throwing away trash, do you know which bin it should go in? Some of you might not be able to answer this question. But it's very important to know how to deal with your waste. Not knowing how to deal with waste is harder to save energy and protect the environment. If you don't deal with your garbage, all of it will go to a landfill (垃圾场) and be buried together. These landfills can take up large areas of ground. The electronic waste you throw away can pollute the soil and groundwater. In fact, some pieces of garbage can be used to make other things if they are properly recycled.
Now, many cities in China have taken actions in recent years. For example, Shanghai announced in July that the garbage should be divided into four groups: recyclable, harmful, wet, and dry.
Paper, metal, glass and other things that can be reused are recyclable waste.
Harmful waste includes things like medicine, batteries and fluorescent bulbs (荧光灯泡). These things are not recyclable.
"Wet" waste is also known as household waste. "They are things you don't want but that pigs can eat," Guangzhou Daily explained.
Some waste such as plastic bags, beer bottles and other manmade things will go into the "dry waste" bin.
Many other Chinese cities, including Shenzhen and Guangzhou, plan to use this way to deal with their garbage. Let's encourage each other to deal with our waste well by sorting it to protect the environment.
1.Why is it important to know how to deal with the trash in life?
A.It helps save energy and protect the environment. B.It helps make much money by selling it.
C.It helps keep every neighborhood clean. D.It helps develop children's good habits.
2.The garbage is divided into ________ in Shanghai.
A.recyclable and non-recyclable B.recyclable, non-recyclable and harmful
C.recyclable and other waste D.recyclable, hazardous, wet, and dry
3.Which of the following isn't harmful waste?
A.Medicine. B.Paper. C.Batteries. D.Fluorescent bulbs.
4.The underlined word "buried" in the passage probably means "________" in Chinese.
A.挑选 B.掩埋 C.分开 D.揭露
5.What does the passage mainly tell us?
A.The way to deal with waste. B.The way to stop throwing waste.
C.The way to protect the environment. D.The way to save energy.

发霉的食物还能吃吗?
One day, you open the fridge and find some moldy food. But before you can throw it away, your mother stops you. She doesn't want to waste food. She cuts off the moldy part and eats the rest. Is it safe to do this?
Mold can grow on almost all kinds of food. Mold is usually green, white, black or grey. Mold makes food soft and changes its color. Moldy food tastes quite bad—and it's not safe to eat.
If you find mold in soft food, just throw it away. Soft food, such as bread, tomatoes or hot dogs, usually contains water. This allows mold to easily grow below its surface. Bacteria can also grow along with it.
But it's easy to remove mold from hard food. The mold can't grow very deeply inside this kind of food. According to the BBC, you should cut about 2.5 cm around and below the mold to remove it. It's OK to cut the moldy parts out of hard food and eat the rest. But if the food is completely covered with mold, you should still throw it away.
Most kinds of mold are bad for us. But some kinds of mold can be used to make food. For example, penicillium can be used to make many types of cheeses, such as blue cheese. These cheeses are safe to eat—and they're quite delicious as well.

Did you know that each day one person in the US throws away 4.4 pounds of rubbish? Almost every month, we throw away our own rubbish in packaging alone. Packaging ( including boxes, bags, etc) comes to our homes with the things we have bought. Several weeks ago, the TV news said that in a city in Italy, tons of rubbish were piled up in the streets, and the smell was rather terrible. What can we do to help? We should get to know the following Rs.
To reduce means to make less rubbish That is one of the first things we all should do for the environment. Reduce your rubbish by doing things like packing your lunch in reusable containers(可再利用的容器),taking smaller potions(份)at dinner so you don't waste food when you have had enough, writing on both sides of paper, and using less water when taking a shower.
To reuse is to use things again. Think about the bags you get from the store. They can be reused to carry your lunch, to hold your rubbish, or to collect used cans. You can even take them back to the store the next time to carry your things instead of getting a new bag!
Recycling is an important part of keeping our planet clean and green. It can also save energy. Be sure that you don't throw things in the rubbish that can be recycled to make something else. Paper, plastic, cans and bottles can all be recycled, but food, electrical waste and mobile phones can't. When you are not sure whether something can be recycled, go to your parents and teachers for advice.
Follow the three Rs, and every one of us can do something to save the Earth. It is also the best way to save ourselves.
1.The first paragraph of the passage implies(暗示) that .
A. packaging should be given up
B. Italy is too dirty for us to visit
C. the US produces most rubbish
D. the Earth is becoming dirtier
2.The writer seems to ask people to reuse the bags .
A. only as rubbish bags
B. only for carrying other things
C. mainly to have a cleaner world
D. mainly to save some money
3.Which of the following can be recycled?
A. Food and bottles.
B. Books and newspapers.
C. Paper and mobile phones.
D. Plastic and electrical waste.
4.The passage mainly tells us that .
A. all useless things can be recycled
