In 1971 there was a war in a part of Nigeria called Biafra, in western Africa. People were dying, children were hungry and there was a lot of disease. There were thousands of people who needed medical help—but there were no doctors or nurses to help them. Some doctors from France went to work there as volunteers, and some of them decided to start an organization to help the people in disasters all over the world. That was when Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) was born.
The organization's headquarter is in Geneva(日内瓦), Switzerland. It is nonpolitical, which means that no government controls it. About 90% of the money that MSF needs comes from personal donations. The rest comes from governments and business. MSF helps everyone. It doesn't matter what their race, religion or politics are. Since it started, MSF has helped people all over the world. The disaster might be war or an earthquake, anything that means people need medical help.
MSF has about 3,000 volunteer doctors in nearly 60 different countries. These__volunteers__not__only__give__people__treatment,__but__also__help__to__train__local__doctors__and__nurses.__MFS also sends engineers to poor countries to help people to do things like making wells, so they can have clean water.

旅游胜地——巴黎
The streets are quiet, and the stores are closed. There's the smell of fresh bread from a bakery somewhere. It would be hard to say which time of the day in Paris I prefer, but this probably is. Soon the streets will be full of people and traffic, and the real Paris will appear as the city wakes up. Under the city are hundreds of miles of tunnels. There are old subways and wine cellars that have been made into galleries. During the 19th century, farmers grew mushrooms in them. During World War Ⅱ, the French fighters also used them. Since the 1970s, groups of young people have spent days and nights there. Parties, theater performances, art galleries—everything goes here!
Everywhere you go under Paris, there is history and stories. Writers often write about the tunnels in their books. Victor Hugo mentions them in his famous novel Les Miserables. There is an underground pool there—with fish! Tourists can visit parts of the Paris underground.
You're not allowed to enter other parts of the underground. However, there are people who will take you to visit them. I have found two unofficial tour guides—Dominique and Yopie. They take me through many tunnels, and after a couple of hours we arrive at a room which isn't on any map.
It's comfortable and clean, with a table, chairs, and a bed. Yopie tells me there are many other places like this. Many people come down here to have parties. They like the room.

In the USA, each year, students take part in a kind of competition called the Science Olympiad.
It has a lot of different events. Students go there to show how much they know about the science of music, biology, chemistry and others. My best event is forestry.
The big day had come at last! First,I went to watch the tower building competition. That’s when students build small towers and put heavy things on top of it. They hope they can hold them up. One of my schoolmates was putting things on her tower. She was nervous, and in the end it was too heavy for her tower to hold it—it broke! I felt bad for her.
After lunch, I helped some teammates with their events. One was geography, and the other was history. I don’t know much about those things, so I just watched my teammates do most of the work.
At last, it was time for my favorite event—forestry. The rules were easy. We had to look at more than 40 different kinds of leaves and find out which plants they were from. We also had to answer some questions about the uses of each leaf. I knew almost all of the leaves and could answer most of the questions. I had spent more than a month studying on the Internet to get ready. At the end, it was time for the awards (颁奖).I was nervous, because the forestry awards were last.
