As a result, it has certainly disturbed my normal study. Though I know to be a football fan is my hobby and my major adjective is to learn more knowledge in school, I can’t concentrate on my lessons and gradually I am tired of them. I am still a senior two middle school student, and I’ll have my own business even when I grow up, so I am not likely to do a job in the field of football. Beijing is set to lift its12-year-old ban on fireworks for the traditional Spring Festival holidays, probably starting from next Chinese Lunar New Year in January 2006.

Zhou Jidong, director of the Legislative Affairs Office of the Beijing municipal government(市政府), told a press conference last Thursday that his office has completed the draft(草案) regulations on firework safety supervision.

Under the draft regulations , setting off fireworks will be allowed in the capital city’s eight downtown districts from the Eve of the Lunar New Year to Lantern Festival 15 days later. When the draft regulations were posted on the municipal government’s website for suggestions, local residents gave a total of 969 pieces of advice, with 70 per cent in favour of lifting the ban. Related surveys suggest local people who want to light fireworks during Spring Festival range from 50.4 per cent to 86.3 per cent.

In fact, the voice of opposition and criticism has never ended since the municipal government introduced the ban in 1993, considering pollution, noise, fire worries and personal injuries caused by letting off fireworks.

Opponents accused the government of introducing the ban only for the sake of facilitating its management role while disregarding the will of the people. Worse, they say, the ban threatened to break down the age—old traditions of celebrating Spring Festival among Chinese people.

Partly due to this endless objection, about 106 out of a total 282 Chinese cities that had followed Beijing’s lead in banning fireworks have already dropped the ban.

This is a very simple statement，yet not so easy to do—Keep your promises. I try to conduct my life in this manner. If you tell someone that you will do something for them，you can’t turn around at the 1ast minute and say, I didn’t do it because it wasn’t convenient. Keeping your promises is also a way to live your life with integrity. That's why it’s important to be aware of your  choice of words, and to live consciously. But that is not a very good way of living. If you consistently live like this you will lose friends because l was not true to my word. It is heartbreaking for both sides.

I get so disturbed when l hear parents trying to sooth a child’s temper and the parent says “I promise一" Later when the child remind the parent or guardian，it becomes clear that the parent had no real thought to keep the promise. The words were just said to placate the child. The parent, as I remember, thought that his or her child would just forget a11 about what was promised. But children have a great memory. Especially when they hear the words I PROMISE. Those words sound stronger than any other words in the English language to a child. We have been taught that those words have power and magic．
