The contributed(捐赠)money will be distributed(分配)by Project Hope council to the countryside to help the children who can’t afford the education. One hundred yuan will help such a child finish his primary education.
Project Hope is a good way to improve the education in the rural(农村的)areas, but it isn’t enough. So far, only a small part of the children benefit(受益)from it. So we should pay more attention to the problem and do much more to help raise the educational level of the country.

Skills vs. Knowledge in Education
Education systems all over the world are based on the idea that students get and remember information from teachers and books. These systems test this knowledge with standardized tests which compare students to each other. They only test the kind of information which is possible to measure(测试,测量) in tests. The goal is gaining information, not developing skills by which to use and make information. Unlike the old style of education where people remembered things in order to pass tests and get higher scores than other students, the modern world calls for a new kind of education in which the focus(焦点) is deep understanding, creativity and information management skills.
Einstein said "Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Use information in creative ways. Knowledge is what other people have created. Understanding is all about what you think about something. Everybody sees, hears, feels and thinks differently. No two people in the world have the same understanding of the same thing. It is impossible to give tests on a point of view. Because of this, tests are illogical. The only reason tests exist is to label(归类) students as "smart" or "stupid". There are many kinds of intelligence(智力,智能), however. One of the most famous researchers in the field of intelligence, Gardner, found at least seven different kinds of intelligence. Intelligence and understanding are related. Unfortunately, tests only measure one kind of intelligence.
In the modern world skills are more important than knowledge. If a person knows many facts, it is impressive, but not very useful. It is of much greater importance to be able to find information quickly, organize that information, analyze(分析) and understand the main ideas, put different pieces of information together, and create new information. Together these skills make what we call information management and innovation, the skills which are most desired(期望) in the business world.
Most people in the world believe that education is about remembering things to take tests which measure one's performance against other people who have studied the same information.
However, this idea no longer matches the reality of the modern world in which knowledge is less important than creativity and deep understanding. To be successful in the age of technology, education must focus on helping students gain information management and innovation skills.
1.The new kind of education in the modern world doesn't focus on ________.
A.creativity B.gaining information
C.deep understanding D.information management skills
2.According to the passage, which of the following is useless?
A.You do as what your teacher tells you in class.
B.You examine a text first carefully to understand what it means.
C.You organize your ideas so that people can understand and follow you.
D.You come up with a solution by asking the questions and understanding the problem.
3.What's the passage mainly about?
A.How people can live in the age of technology.
B.What knowledge tests measure in the age of technology.
C.How students develop themselves in the age of technology.
D.What education helps the students to gain in the age of technology.

While the start of a new school year is always exciting, this year was even more so for some students at White Cloud Primary School. They became the world's first kids to be taught by an electronic teacher. This electronic teacher is not a humanlike robot walking around the classroom. Instead, he is a computercreated head that appears, when needed, on students' computer or phone screens. His name is Bill.
Created by technology company Smart Machines, Bill is able to show humanlike behavior. He is designed to teach a special program about environmentalfriendly power created by the sun and wind. This program, started in 2005, used to be taught by human teachers.
Just like human teachers, Bill is able to immediately respond to the students' questions and opinions about the topic. Thanks to computer cameras, he is also able to see and react to students' physical actions. For example, if a student smiles at Bill, he responds by smiling back. This twoway exchange helps get the students' attention. More importantly, it allows the program developers to improve Bill's behavior and knowledge base when needed.
The program has been a great success, according to Smart Machines spokesman Robert Frost. Frost says, “What is interesting to me is the children's reaction to Bill. He really attracts their attention.” Frost thinks kids don't find the experience of being taught by smart machines as strange as older people because they have grown up in a time of computers and smart phones.
It is doubtful, however, that human educators will lose their jobs to Bill any time soon. For one, this talking head's knowledge base is not large. More importantly, even the smartest computer programs can't guess and react to all the unexpected situations that educators face daily. Bill's future might be as a “personal tutor”, providing kids with oneonone help for different subjects and topics.
1.What is Bill?
A.A humanlike robot.
B.A kind of computer game.
C.A computer recording tool.
D.A computercreated talking head.
2.How does the twoway exchange help the program developers?
A.It lets them correct students' mistakes.
B.It allows Bill to respond more quickly.
C.It helps them know how to improve Bill.
D.It helps them study students' body language.
3.What does the word “they” refer to (指的是)?
A.Kids. B.Older people.
C.Smart machines. D.Program developers.
4.What is Bill NOT good at doing?
A.Attracting students' attention.
B.Understanding students' body language.
C.Responding to students' questions.
D.Dealing with unexpected situations.
5.How might Bill be used in the future according to the last paragraph?
A.To work as human classroom teachers.
B.To encourage students' interest in computers.
C.To give students personal help with different subjects.
D.To watch over the behavior of the students in the classroom.

Recently, a junior high school sent several students back home because they broke the school uniform (校服) rules. Should students wear school uniforms? The Young World magazine held a discussion on this topic (话题) .
Kennedy: The school uniform is very important, because it always reminds me that I am supposed to go out of my way to study hard. It also helps prevent school bullying (欺凌) .If everyone wears the same clothes, it is impossible to laugh at other people's clothing.
Manson: The uniform has to be earned (获得) through efforts. Students should start school with no uniforms. As they make progress at school, they start wearing it. I always think children need to be proud of their school. The uniform is important for that. So, make students earn it! If they don't perform well, they should not be allowed to get one.
Moorhead: In my opinion, kids don't have to wear uniforms. There should be more choices open to kids in education. They should develop their own independence and just be themselves. Their personalities would be expressed through their own clothes at school. And different dress could be one way of showing their understanding of beauty. Besides, they make the school lively and colorful.
