Outside stood a tall man wearing a black raincoat and black rubber boots. He said he was a salesman and asked politely if out mother or father was at home.
Without thinking, my brother said:” No.” He asked if we would like to buy some comic books which he was selling. I quickly explained that we were not supposed to buy anything without our parent’s permission.
Then, as I was about to close the door, he forced his way into our house. He took out a knife and forced me to tie up my brother’s hands with some rope which he took out form his pocket. I tied up his hands but tied it in a special way so my brother could untie himself. The man then tied my hands up and locked both of us in the kitchen.
Soon, the went upstairs to search the bedroom for valuables. I managed to teach my brother to untie the rope on the his hands. He then untied me. I rushed to the telephone to call the police, but the line was dead. The doors were all locked from the outside and I did not have the keys to unlock them. Luckily, the robber forgot to lock the kitchen window. My brother managed to get out of the house through the window and I told him to go to the police station nearby and call for help.

I started rushing toward her, but before I was even halfway there, Mike reached the kids — a brother and sister around eight or nine years old. Mike told me later that he got to the boy first, and when he turned to the girl, he had to reach down into the water and caught her by the hair to pull her back up.
When I reached their mother, Mike’s in waist-deep water. These kids were so tired, they couldn’t walk, and so Mike s carrying them: He got one under each arm.
I turned to their mom and said, “Hey, it’s going to be OK. They’re safe.”
Then she looked back and got her first good look at Mike. And a crazy thing happened. I saw a new kind of fear wash over her as though there’s some new, equally dangerous threat on her kids’ lives. Mike had a number of really frightening tattoos (纹身). She rushed up to Mike, took her kids quickly and left without even a thank-you.

She'd have treasured that $ 100 bill because it came from her generous uncle. And she'd be dreaming, even now if she hadn't realized she'd lost it, of all the toys and treats that the bill could buy. I was really surprised after hearing that．
Why did I not think of that？ A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel grateful, and my mother has raised me since I was little and I have never felt so, not even a little．
