As a child, Alain Robert was afraid of heights. When he was 12, he returned home from school. At the front door of his building, he looked for his keys. he didn't have them. It was 3:30 and his parents worked until 6:00 pm. Alain looked at his apartment on the eighth floor. He saw an open window. He closed his eyes and imagined himself climbing the building. When he opened his eyes, he told himself ,"I can do it." Fifteen minutes later, he was in his house and his fear of heights was gone.
Today, Alain still climbs buildings. In 2003 , he climbed a building in London dressed as Spiderman(蜘蛛人) to advertise the movie. In 2004, he climbed Taipei 101 (one of the tallest buildings in the world). To reach the top of a building, Alain uses only his hands and special shoes. He has no rope or other safety tools.
Alain climbs as a hobby. He also does it to make money for charity. When he climbs, he wants to send a message to people. If you have a dream—something you really want to do—it can become real. Last night it was still light out when I returned home from work. My new neighbors and his son were in their favorite place, outside in the yard, playing baseball. The young boy always reports to me how many "home runs" he hits and I always clap and cheer for him.
These guys are special. Where you see one of them, the other is not far away. The dad is always talking with the child face to face, focusing on the child… not talking on a cellphone or walking ahead of the boy so that he has to run to keep up with him. This guy is really great. It warms my heart to see a father and son enjoying each other's company like they do.
As they were returning to their upstairs apartment, I asked the dad if his son had a bike. The boy was far ahead and couldn't hear us. He said no. I wasted no time trekking to the store and I was beside myself with excitement as I picked up a new bike in a style that most kids like. I loaded the bike into my car carefully and off I went.
At home, I took out the bike and carried it upstairs to their apartment and left it outside the door. Not an easy task for a 50-year-old woman! About five minutes later, they were at my door, with the boy dancing up and down with excitement. I told the dad that I needed to get rid of a bike that I was storing for a friend, and he was happy to take it from me. Now the two of them have another activity they can do together.
I told the dad how proud I was of him for valuing quality time with his son. It's something the boy will remember throughout his life. For me, it's one of life's pleasure to see them together.
1.We can infer from the text that .
A. the young boy was a reporter
B. the author was moved by the father and the son
C. the dad was a baseball player
D. the author returned the bicycle to the father
2.The underlined word “trekking” in the third paragraph probably means “ ”.
A. losing one’s way B. making a decision
C. making a journey D. buying in secret
3.What do we know about the bike?
A. It was a gift for the boy bought by the author.
B. It belonged to the author’s friend.
C. The dad bought it for his son as a gift.
D. The boy would join in a bike game with it.
4.What would be the best title for the text?
A. An exciting moment in the yard
B. A kind lady
C. Pleasant memories with my neighbors
D. Father’s Day

高一英语短文填空困难题查看答案及解析
3:00 pm It’s Friday. Alice comes home from high school to her mother who greets her at the door. She puts her backpack on her bedroom floor. She sees that she got a text from her friend, and hurriedly texts back before getting a head start on her homework.
4:15 pmAlice takes a moon cake from the kitchen that her mother has set aside for her. Her mother sits her down in the dining room to ask about Alice’s day. Alice tells her mother in Chinese about her math test that morning. She fails to tell her about her history class on women’s rights and her modern art class, because she knows it would make her mother uncomfortable.
6:30 pm Alice tells her mother in rapid Chinese that she’s done her homework and mentions that there is a mandatory(强制的) school function that night which she will have to attend. She asks her if she can go over to a friend’s house to study in the meantime. Her mother refuses because she has arranged for a tutor to come over.
7:00 pm Alice puts on a long-sleeved shirt and jeans, because she knows her mother would approve, but secretly packs a crop top(露脐装) and shorts. She empties her backpack of books and puts in her change of clothes.
7:45 pm Alice’s mother drives her to the school and drops her off. She tells Alice that she’ll pick her up when the function is over. The girl tells her mother that she will call.
8:00 pm Alice finds her friend. She changes to English and tells her that she’ll be right back. She goes into the bathroom and changes into the clothes that she brought. She now looks like all the other kids at the dance. She deeply loves her mother and hates lying to her, but she knows that is the only way she’ll understand. Avoiding the issue entirely by just “slipping out” is the only way she feels she can maintain her loving relationship at home, but still fit in with her schoolmates, who are themselves doing something that is supported by their parents.
In today’s world, scenarios (情况) like this one are more than frequent. They’re everywhere. Being born or living in a different country than the country your parents grew up in has become more and more regular. In the U.S. where the word “immigration” (移民) is often on people’s lips, nearly one-quarter of the 70.9 million children and adolescents under 17 in 2009 had at least one immigrant parent. The untold story of immigration is the stress put on the adolescents who need to live in two different worlds at the same time.
In the home, these teenagers are brought up within the traditional culture of their parents. They eat sushi, andxiao long bao, but even more than that, they’re brought up with the ideas and values of their parents’ cultures. Even the most independent teenager is influenced by his or her parents. However, as soon as these teenagers leave their houses, these values and expectations begin to lose their meaning. Instead of it being something that unites them with others, these traditional principles create cultural boundaries between teenagers. Seeing this and desperately wanting to connect with others, teenagers cast off(抛弃)their identities and roles in the home and put on a new culture and set of values.
These teenagers change themselves many times a day to adapt to these different worlds. Of course this isn’t something that they necessarily have to do. But following what their parents want and what their friends expect gives them the ability to feel accepted both in their home and in their school. In most cases, these teenagers are not pretending to be something they’re not. Rather, they are simply willing to play double roles in the drama of their life, adding an extra layer of stress to their teenage years.
