Sheep always follow each other and never really think about where they are going. Perhaps fashion makes us iinto “sheep”. Maybe we should find our own way and not follow the crowd. Everyone wants to wear top brand clothing. However, we should remember that clothes designers(设计师) study what ordinary people wear on the street. Then they make clothes like ordinary people’s for everyone. Therefore, fashion really starts with individual(个人的) finding a new look. Then a company uses that look and then it becomes fashionable! That doesn’t mean you will. That is to say, a model might look very nice in a shirt but that doesn’t mean you will.
The same goes for mobile phones. Young people are always asking me when to change my mobile phones. Mobile phone companies are always putting new functions(功能) on their phones but do we really need all these extra functions? I use my phone to call people and to send messages to my friends. I don’t need a camera, Internet surfing or a calendar(日历) on my phone. Again, if you buy the latest phone, it will only be the latest phone for a month or so. Then something new will come out and you’ll be unfashionable again. You can’t keep up with fashion all the time, so you don’t need to follow the fashion.
1.The underlined word “sheep” means”________.”
A. people who always follow the fashion

The cultures of the east and the west are really different from each other. This is because the culture systems are two separate systems on the whole.
The origin of the eastern cultures is mainly from two countries: China and India. Both of the two cultures are started by rivers. In China, the mother river is the Yellow River while the Indian one is the Hindu River. These two cultures were developed for several thousand years and formed their own styles. Then in Tang Dynasty of China, the Chinese culture gradually went overseas to Japan, mixed into the Japanese society and shaped the Japanese culture nowadays. Though a bit different from the Chinese one, it belongs to the same system.
When the two mother rivers gave birth to the eastern culture, another famous culture was brought up on the Mesopotamian Plain—the Mesopotamian Civilization. This civilization later on developed into the culture of the Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. And these two are well-known as the base of the European culture. Like the Chinese culture, the European one also crossed waters. When the colonists(殖民者)of England settled down in America, their culture went with them over the Atlantic Ocean. So the American culture doesn't differ from the European one a lot.
At the same time, the difference of the language system adds to the cultural differences. In the East, most languages belong to the pictographic(象形的)language while the Western languages are mostly based on the Latin system, for example, the one I'm using to write this paper.
Other factors(因素)like human race difference counts as well. But what's, more, due to the far distance and the steep areas between the East and West, the two cultures seldom communicate until recent centuries. So they grew up totally in their own ways with almost no interference from the other.
1.Are eastern culture and western culture the same system or different ones on the whole?
________________________________________________________
2.How did the Chinese culture and Indian culture start?
________________________________________________________
3.Why doesn't the American culture differ from the European one a lot?
________________________________________________________
4.How many factors of culture differences are mentioned?
_______________________________________________________
5.What is the passage mainly about?

During all this time, I never stopped thinking about escape(逃跑).When I travelled across to the other side of the island, I could see the other islands, and I said to myself, "Perhaps I can get there with a boat. Perhaps I can get back to England one day."
So I decided to make myself a boat. I cut down a big tree, and then began to make a long hole in it. It was hard work, but about six months later, I had a very fine canoe(独木舟).Next, I had to get it down to the sea. How silly I was! Why didn't I think carefully before I began to work? Of course, the canoe was too heavy. I couldn't move it! I pulled and pushed and tried everything, but it didn't move. I was very unhappy for a long time after that.
In my sixth year on the island, I did make myself a smaller canoe, but I did not try to escape in it. The boat was too small for a long journey, and I did not want to die at sea. The island was my home now, and I was just happy to be alive. A year or two later, I made myself a second canoe on the other side of the island. I also built myself a second house there, and so I had two homes.
I kept food and tools at both of my houses, and also wild goats (山羊).There were many goats on the island, and I made fields with high fences to keep them in. They learned to take food from me, and soon I had goats' milk to drink every day. I also worked hard in my corn(玉米)fields. And so, many years went by.
1.Where might the man in the story come from?
A. America. B. China. C. England. D. Australia.
2.Why was the man unhappy for a long time?
A. He was alone on the island.
B. He couldn't make a boat by himself.
C. The canoe he made was too heavy to move.
D. The canoe was too small for a long journey.
3.This story is mainly about how the man .
A. kept goats in the fields
B. escaped from the island
C. built houses by himself
D. kept himself alive on the island

During all this time I never stopped thinking about escape. When I traveled across to the other side of the island (岛屿), I could see the other islands, and I said to myself, “Perhaps I can get there with a boat. Perhaps I can get back to England one day.”
So I decided to make myself a boat. I cut down a big tree, and then began to make a long hole (洞) in it. It was hard work, but about six months later, I had a very fine canoe (独木舟). Next, I had to get it down to the sea. How silly I was! Why didn’t I think before I began work? Of course, the canoe was too heavy. I couldn’t move it! I pulled and pushed and tried everything, but it didn’t move. I was very unhappy for a long time after that.
That happened in my fourth year on the island. In my sixth year I did make myself a smaller canoe, but I did not try to escape in it. The boat was too small for a long journey, and I did not want to die at sea. The island was my home now, not my prison, and I was just happy to be alive. A year or two later, I made myself a second canoe on the other side of the island. I also built myself a second house there, and so I had two homes.
My life was still busy from morning to night. There were always things to do or to make. I learnt to make new clothes for myself from the skins of dead animals. They looked very strange, it is true, but they kept me dry in the rain.
I kept food and tools (工具) at both my houses, and also wild goats (山羊). There were many goats on the island, and I made fields with high fences to keep them in. They learnt to take food from me, and soon I had goats’ milk to drink every day. I also worked hard in my corn (玉米) fields. And so many years went by.
1. The purpose of making a canoe on the island was to _____________.
A. escape in it B. get to the other side of the island
C. use it for food D. go around the island
2. To survive, the writer did the following EXCEPT _____________.
A. keeping goats for milk B. making clothes from animal skins
C. working in the cornfields D. going fishing in the sea
3.Why didn’t the writer use his first canoe?
A. Because it was too small for a long journey.
B. Because it was too heavy to get down to the sea.
C. Because there was something wrong with it.
D. Because the writer was busy building a second house.
4.From the story, we can learn that _____________.
A. the writer tried to make his stay comfortable on the island
B. the writer had nothing to do on the wild island
C. the writer tried to escape in the second canoe, but failed
D. the writer was in prison on the island, losing his freedom
