Then he loads (装载)all your things, drops you off outside your home and helps you unload, No other type of public transport offers this kind of service.
From June to September, Kolkata gets heavy rain. Sometimes it rains for 48 hours without a break. In some parts of the city, the roads flood (水淹), and anything with an engine(发动机) is useless, But the rickshaw drivers never stop working, even with water all around them.
But not everyone thinks rickshaws are a good thing. The local government want to ban rickshaws. They believe it is wrong for one man to pull another person when there is modern transport in the city. However, there is a problem with this plan. Many of the rickshaw drivers come from the countryside. The only job they can find in Kolkata is pulling a rickshaw, If the city bans rickshaws, these men won't have a job. So for the moment, the people of Kolkata still go by rickshaw.

When my daughter was in primary school, she brought home four small twigs(嫩枝)one day. Her school gave these twigs to the students to plant. None of them looked very hardy, but with hope for the future, I planted them in our backyard. Over the years, because of an accident with the lawnmower(割草机)and poor soil, three of them died. Only one survived. It grew crooked(弯弯曲曲的)and very slowly. It never got very tall. In the end, it looked more like a fat bush than a tree. A few years ago, I noticed that it was starting to die. The lower branches were becoming bare(秃的).Only the top third of the tree was still green. Last summer I did my best to save it by feeding it a lot of fertilizer(肥料), but it didn’t work.
Later one morning, I went out and looked at it again. I was wondering whether it would be better to just cut it down. It would make mowing the lawn easier. As I walked over to take a closer look at it, however, I noticed something moving within the leaves. It was a robin(知更鸟)patiently building a nest in the topmost branches. I smiled when I looked at it. I thought maybe this old tree was still useful. It might not be healthy or pretty, but it was still giving a bird a home. This tree made me know that all of our lives have purpose. It doesn’t matter if we are young and strong of old and sickly. Until our last breath, we have things to do, love to give, and joy to share.
We can help to make this world a better and more beautiful place.

4.What might the writer do with the tree later?

My First Day of School
I was afraid when I was walking into my first school in America. I has traveled a long way from India in order to join my parents. They hoped America would help my future.
On the first day, with fear, I reached for the door. Opening it slowly. Everyone’s eyes were on me as I entered the room. Without paying attention to them. I went to the teacher and asked if this was the right class. With a soft voice he answered, “Yes.” His voice made me feel better Then he asked me to choose where I would sit. I chose the seat closest to the door in India we had assigned(指定) seats. I spent the rest of the class taking notes from the PPT. In Indian schools, we didn’t use the technology we had. We had to take notes as the teacher spoke.
Since it was my first day, I had no idea about which hallway to use, but I managed to get to my classes without asking anyone. I wasn’t quite sure when I would have lunch. When the lunch bell rang, I headed for the cafeteria. I felt lucky because we didn’t have this in India. At the end of the day, I got on my bus and sat down inside happily, I was thinking, today wasn’t so bad.
As time passed that year, I developed some friendships and started to love my school. The teachers had a fun way of making hard things so easy that a three-year-old could do them. In India the teachers had a more strict way of saying things. We also had much longer school days in India-7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.-while in America school was 7:30 to 2:30. The main difference I found in America is that 1 learned a lot each day. Because of these I feel I am the luckiest person in the whole world.
