Five Smart Habits of Successful Children
Have you ever wondered what actions make the most difference in your children's lives?
Children don't have to be smart to succeed. They don't have to be born rich and famous. All they need is the right outlook and a few smart habits.
Successful children make friends wherever they go. Children who learn to get along with others from an early age are more successful in life. 1Without them, we'd have no support. Whatever the goal, friends are needed to achieve it. Do your children a favor by encouraging social interaction early.
2They don't just hope for success; they are certain of it. They don't complain. They have a smile on their face and get on with the business of living. They feel pain just like the other children. The difference is that they don't let it hinder(妨碍) their progress.
Successful children become successful because they never give up. They fall. They fail. 3The difference is that they use their mistakes the way they were intended. They embrace failure because it pushes them forward.
Successful children ignore the naysayer (反对者). They don't worry about what other people think. They follow the path that is right for them, regardless of gossip. 4They are too busy working towards their goals. They do have concern for the feelings of others.
Successful children share their success. They don't forget all the people who helped them get where they were going. 5They don't criticize(批评) and reject(抛弃) those who are struggling. They take them by the hand and guide them up the ladder.
A.Do you want to be a successful child?
B.Social skills are vital(重要的) to human survival.
C.Successful children look on the bright side.
D.They make just as many mistakes as the other children.
E. They take the time to teach others what they have learned.
F. They don't engage in gossip either, because they don't have time for it.
G. In fact, they don't even have to become rich and famous.

Habits Of Highly Successful Students
Never Over-Study
When you spend too much time studying you will quickly lose focus and the time spent in studying will become ‘junk time’. You think you're studying but you're just sitting there re-reading the same sentence about 100 times and you're not getting anywhere. Instead, take regular breaks.1.Besides, it will give your mind some time to take in what you have been doing.
2.
Top students don't just randomly sit down and complete work. They actually plan what they are going to do: They actually plan the time they will study and they set goals for what will be achieved. If you want to be successful, do as successful people do. Set a plan and, set a goal and stick to it, which will create a routine and a routine is the first step towards developing a habit.3.
Front Up To The Toughest Work First
Many of us like to do the easy things first to build our confidence. That’s fair enough. The only challenge with this approach is that you use up your primary energy at the start of any study period and so if you are dealing with the easy parts with your primary energy your batteries will be low when it comes the time to deal with the hard part. So what happens then?4.We all do it. We really shouldn't, though. So develop the habit of giving your primary energy to the hard tasks and completing the easy stuff last.
5.
Do we really have to explain this? Just turn them off for an hour, we promise the world will still be there when you log back in! Don't text your friends, don't chat while doing memory activities, don't make phone calls, just focus on what you're doing. Even if you focus on work' for 15 minutes followed by 5 mins of chatting, it’s better than 30 minutes of work while also chatting! You get that right?
A. Plan Your Study
B. Achieve Your Goal
C. Positive habits decide future success.
D. Taking breaks can make you get everywhere.
E. You get tired and impatient and just give up.
F. Get Off Social Networking Sites And Turn Off The Phone
G. Taking breaks will make you energetic again and refresh your mind.

Have you ever wondered?
1. Why do airplanes take longer to fly west than east?
It can take five hours to go west-east from New York(NY) to London but seven hours to travel east-west from London to NY. The reason for the difference is an atmospheric phenomenon known as the jet(喷射) stream. The jet stream is a very high altitude wind which always blows from the west to the east across the Atlantic. The planes moving at a constant air speed thus go faster in the west-east direction when the air moving with the wind than in the opposite direction.
2. What would happen if the gravity(重力) on Earth was suddenly turned off?
Supposing we could magically turn off gravity. Would buildings and other structures float away? What happened would depend on how strongly the things were attached to the Earth. The Earth is moving at quite a speed moving at over a thousand miles per hour. If you turn something round your head on a string, it goes around in a circle until you let go of the string. Then it flies off in a straight line. “Switching off ” gravity would be like letting go of the string. Things not attacked to the Earth would fly off in a straight line . People in buildings would suddenly shoot upwards at a great speed until they hit the ceiling. Most things would fly off into space.
1.What information can we get from the first passage?
A. It is the jet stream that affects how fast airplanes fly.
B. Planes go slower when they are moving with the wind.
C. It takes more time to fly from NY to London than from London to NY.

Have you ever wondered why people drive on a different side of the road? It might seem bizarre that U. K. drivers stay on the left, but they’re not the only ones. Around 35 percent of the world population do the same, including people in Ireland, Japan, and some Caribbean islands.
Originally, almost everybody traveled on the left side of the road. However their way of transport was quite different from today: Think about four legs instead of four wheels. For Medieval swordsmen on horseback, it made sense to keep to the left to have their right arms closer to their enemies. Getting on or off was also easier from the left side of the horse, and safer done by the side of the road than in the center.
So why did people stop traveling on the left? Things changed in the late 1700s when large wagons (货车) pulled by several pairs of horses were used to transport farm products in France and the United States. The wagon driver sat behind the left horse, with his right arm free to use his whip to keep the horses moving. Since he was sitting on the left position, he wanted other wagons to pass on his left, so he kept to the right side of the road.
The British Government refused to give up their left-hand driving ways, and in 1773 introduced the General Highways Act, which encouraged driving on the left. This was later made law thanks to The Highway Act of 1835.
When Henry Ford showed his Model T in 1908, the driver’s seat was on the left, meaning that cars would have to drive on the right hand side of the road to allow front and back passengers to exit the car onto the roadside. However, British drivers remain on the left, and this is highly unlikely to change.
1.What does the underlined word “bizarre” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A. Funny. B. Strange.
C. Wrong. D. Difficult
2.Why did people riding the horse travel on the left in history?
A. It was safer to keep on the left
B. It was easier to carry goods.
C. It was easier for them to fight
D. It was necessary to control the horse.
3.What made drivers of large wagons travel on the right?
A. Their sitting position.
B. The road conditions.
C. The number of horses.
D. The products in the wagons.
4.Which of the following may be the best title for the text?
A. UK Drivers Still Go On The Left
B. Why People Like Sitting On The Left Side

D. The Reasons For Different Driving Sides

What do the world’s most successful people all have in common?
By examining the work habits of over 150 greatest writers and artists and scientists, the researchers including Standford Professor Jeffrey Preffer found that high achievers like Robert Moses turn out to be all alike:
Busy ! Busy!
1.In a study of general managers in industry, John Kotter reported that many of them worked 60 to 65 hours per week—which translates into at least six 10-hour days. The ability and willingness to work difficult and tiring hours has characterized many powerful figures. Energy and strength provide many advantages to those seeking to build power.
Just Say No!
The difference between successful people and very successful people is that very successful people say “no” to almost everything. And that’s what gives them the time to accomplish so much.2.And focus means saying “no” to a lot of distractions (分神).
Know What You Are!
Ignore your weakness and keep improving your strengths. Don’t waste time exploring skill areas where you have little competence. Instead, focus on—and build on—your strengths.3.

Luck is not magical—there is a science to it. Richard Wiseman studied lucky people for his book Luck Factor, and broke down what they do right.4.By being more outgoing, open to new ideas, following the feeling that something is true, being optimistic, lucky people create possibilities.
Does applying these principles to your life actually work? Wiseman created a “luck school” to test the ideas—and it was a success. In total, 80 percent of people who attended Luck School said that their luck had increased.5.
