In1882,a baby girl caught such a serious fever that she nearly die. The fever cut her off from the outside world, depriving(夺去) her of sight and sound. That poor girl was Helen Keller.
Luckily Helen was not a girl who gave up easily. Soon she began to explore the world by using her other senses. She touched and smelt everything she came across. She also learnt to recognize people by feeling their faces or their clothes.
Just before her seventh birthday, the family hired a private tutor- Anne Sullivan. With the help of Anne, Helen soon learnt to read and write in Braille. She also learnt to read people’s lips by pressing her fingertips against them and feeling the movement and vibrations. She also learnt to speak, a major achievement for people who could not hear at all.
Helen proved to be a remarkable scholar, graduating with honors from Radcliffe College in 1904. While she was still at college, she wrote The Story of My Life. This was an immediate success and earned her enough money to buy her own house.
She toured the country, giving lecture after lecture. Many books were written about her and several plays and films were made about her life. Finally she became so famous that she was invited abroad and received many honors from foreign universities. In 1932, she became a vice-president of the Royal National Institute for the Blind in the United Kingdom.
After her death in 1968 an organization was set up in her name to combat (与……斗争)blindness in the developing world. Today that agency, Helen Keller International, is one of the biggest organizations working with blind people overseas.

It has influenced people's lives in the whole country from the north to the south, including Beijing, Hebei, Shanxi, Jiangsu and Guangdong. People even can't see each other when they stand about 50 meters from each other. It can cause lots of traffic accidents. So the highways are closed and the flights are put off on hazy days.
Cities like Shanghai and Nanjing have been covered with the grey sky for the past several weeks. Many walkers in the street had to wear masks(口罩). In the Lukou airport in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, more than 60 flights were cut out on Saturday because of the hazy weather, which also made primary and middle schools and kindergartens stop having classes on Thursday and Friday in Nanjing. Earlier this week, the Ministry of Environmental Protection said that there were several reasons for the heavy haze. Especially Bad weather conditions made it difficult for polluting things to disappear.
In order to clean up the air , the Chinese government now plans to cut coal use and increase cleaner production.
“We must face the problem,” said Yan Naiqiang, a professor of environmental science at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. “It will take a long time to control and improve the weather condition.”

It is widely agreed that the over-use of fossil fuels, such as coal and oil has caused serious environmental problems. Scientists are trying to find new clean energies that do not pollute the air, the water or the ground. Solar power is one of them.
Solar power is a kind of electricity which is produced by taking energy from the sun, using solar panels (面板,电池板). The power is easy to get and will never be used up. Whenever it is sunny, there is the power. The power is clean and renewable. It helps to reduce waste and pollution, which is great for the environment. In the areas that are too far away to send electricity to or not easy to build electric power plants, solar power is especially necessary. It enables the people there to use lights, TVs, computers, washing machines, fridges and many other things.
Therefore, more and more countries, such as China, the USA, Japan and India, encourage scientists to develop practical technology to put solar power to use. However, the power is not as widely used as expected.
One of the challenges is that a solar power system needs sunshine. Countries or areas with a lot of rain, like the UK, are not suitable to develop such power system. Secondly, a solar power panels requires a very large site to fix enough solar panels to collect sunlight and change it into electricity. Maybe an area in the desert would be one of the perfect places for such a plant to build. What’s more, solar panels are expensive at present though the energy itself doesn’t cost anything.
Today scientists are working hard to develop more practical and cheaper solar power system. Maybe one day solar power will be one of the most important clean energies in our life.

C.Because fixing solar panels needs very large sites. D.All over above.
4.What’s the main idea of paragraph 4?
A.The ways to use solar power
B.The advantages of solar power.
C.The places to build the solar power station.
D.The difficulties of putting solar power into use widely.
5.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Solar energy itself is expensive
B.Solar power will run out very soon.
C.Solar power is a kind of clean and useful energy.
D.Solar power is much better than the other energetic.
