People who experience face blindness can have a hard time in their social life. They have trouble remembering or recognizing faces. The term ‘face blindness’ isn’t exactly accurate though. 1.. They just can’t put all the parts together into one coherent image that they remember and recognize when they see it again, which is why proper name for face blindness is prosopagnosia, or literally “not knowing the face”.
2. These clues include the way they sound (their voice or accent), the way they look (body size, shape or height), the way they smell, their clothing, their hair(style, colour or length) and obvious features on their face(beards, piercings heavy eyebrow, glasses).
3. Because they’re not always unique to one person and they can change. This is why face blindness can cause so much stress.
If you don’t experience face blindness, you’ve probably never given much thought to your ability to recognize familiar people or how important that is to your social interactions and feelings of safety. But imagine if you didn’t know whether the person approaching you is a friend or a stranger. 4.. Or imagine not being able to find the teacher when you need to use the toilet, because your teacher wears glasses and none of the adults in the room are wearing glasses today. 5..
A.These are important ways to remember someone’s face.
B.Do you say hello or just keep on walking?
C.Those with face blindness have to use other clues to recognize people.
D.It’s easy to see the effect this would have on your social skills and confidence.
E.These are much less effective ways to recognize someone.
F.There are tests you can take to get an idea about your face-recognizing abilities.
G.They actually can see faces.

Most people who move to a foreign country may experience a period of time when they have a lot of stress in the new culture. This feeling is often called “culture shock” and it is important to learn how to deal with culture shock. First of all, you should know that everyone in a new situation will go through some form of culture shock. There are four general stages of cultural adjustment(适应).
The first stage is usually referred to as the honeymoon stage. Upon arriving in a new environment, you’ll be interested in the new culture. Everything will seem exciting, and everyone will seem friendly and helpful.
The second stage is called the withdrawal stage. The excitement that you felt before changes to frustration(沮丧) as you find it difficult to deal with new problems. The language is hard to learn; friends are hard to make; simple things like shopping and going to the bank are challenges. It is at this stage that you are likely to feel anxious and homesick.
If you are one of those who manage to stick it out (坚持下来), you will enter the third stage---- the recovery stage. At this point, you’ll feel more confident in the new culture. You’ll start to understand and accept the way things are done and the way people behave in your new environment.
The last stage is the stability stage---- this is the point when people start to feel at home in the new culture. At this stage, you will behave well in the new culture, and prefer some aspects(方面) of the new culture to your own culture.
There is, in a sense, a fifth stage to this process. If you decide to return home after a long period in a new culture, you may experience what is called “reverse culture shock”. This means that you may find aspects of your own culture “foreign”, because you’re so used to the new culture. Reverse culture shock is usually pretty mild(温和的) and doesn’t last for very long.
1.At the honeymoon stage, people will__________.
A. find the new culture is hard to accept
B. miss their family and friends very much
C. begin to understand what culture shock is
D. have a good impression of the new culture
2.In which stage will people feel most uncomfortable?
A. The honeymoon stage. B. The withdrawal stage.
C. The recovery stage. D. The stability stage.
3.At the stability stage, people usually feel__________.
A. lucky B. relaxed
C. nervous D. disappointed
4.Which of the following opinions does the author agree with?
A. It’s important to know that culture shock is natural.
B. People will suffer less from culture shock in future.
C. Reverse culture shock usually happens in the foreign countries.
D. Reverse culture shock is as difficult to deal with as culture shock.

A European Union program is letting blind people experience famous paintings for the first time. It uses three dimensional (3-D) printing to re-create famous paintings so that they can be touched.
One painting printed with the new technology is Gustav Klimt’s “The Kiss.” It is a popular attraction at the Belvedere Museum in Vienna, Austria. The painting shows a man and a woman standing in a field filled with flowers. They are wearing gold robes and have their arms around each other. The man leans down to kiss the woman.
Klimt finished the painting in 1908. Until now, people who have trouble seeing can not enjoy the artwork. But thanks to the reproduction (复制品) they can touch the piece and feel the ridges (隆起) and depressions (凹地). Andreas Reichinger started making 3-D versions of artwork in 2010. He said this reproduction was his most difficult project because the couple’s robes are so detailed (精细的).
Dominika Raditsch is a blind museum visitor. She touched the reproduction. As she moved her hands around it, she said, “Exactly, can you see these? There are so many details.” Raditsch said she can imagine what the original painting looks like when she touches the reproduction. “It’s somehow round. You can feel it. It comes with it. And in many places it’s so smooth. And then I think to myself: it probably shines too!” Raditsch said.
The Belvedere is not the only museum to have 3-D versions of its artwork. Some of the pieces at the Prado, in Madrid, Spain, have reproductions that can be touched. But the piece in Vienna has one special part: it is made with widely available 3-D printing technology. That means one day, blind art fans anywhere in the world could download the source files and print the reproductions themselves.
1.What is “The Kiss”?
A. A European Union project. B. A popular painting
C. A 3-D technology. D. A famous museum.
2.Why did Reichinger say this reproduction was difficult to finish?
A. The painting was reproduced detailedly.
B. The original artwork was made in 1908.
C. Blind art fans can’t download the source files.
D. The 3-D technology is not available.
3.What is the best title for the text?
A. A European Union Program for Museum Visitors
B. How to Reproduce the World-famous Paintings
C. A Special Museum for Art Fans in Vienna, Austria
D. 3-D Printing Lets the Blind Experience Famous Paintings

I can’t count how many times people have complained, while shaking their heads in obvious disappointment,“just don’t know what is with teenagers today.”
The other day I was in my car on my way to the farmers market when I passed two teens standing by the side of the road with a car washing sign. My car was filthy and my heart was full, so I pulled over. There was a group directing the cars and another group spraying them down. As sponges(海绵) were wiped over every square inch of my dirty car, I sat enjoying the little water bottles. I was amazed at why forty to fifty teenagers had devoted their Saturday to washing cars.
After I handed them a twenty-dollar bill I asked what they were raising money for. They explained to me that a friend of theirs, C.T.Schmitz, had recently died of cancer. He was only fifteen years old. He had gone to school with a lot of the teenagers who were there that day and each of them had memories of a boy sweeter than any they had known. His friend Kevin had decided to put this car wash together because he wanted to honor his friend and also bring together his classmates with his boy scout troop(童子军). He told me that they wanted to plant a tree in front of their school and if they raised enough money they would put a plaque(纪念匾) there also. Both would be in memory of their friend C.T.
They handed me a bag of homemade cookies with my receipt(收据) saying“Thanks for helping us plant a tree of C.T.”
