In 1935, twins Dulcie and Nancie sent letters into a Sydney radio station. They wanted the host of a radio program to take their mail to Los Angeles to find them pen pals.
Eighty years later, the sisters are still exchanging letters. Their pen pals are also twins.
"I have one very large box full of letters and photos taken over the 80 years," Nancie said.
"The letters are very interesting to read, especially the childhood ones.
"The first letter asked me if I knew Shirley Temple (秀兰·邓波儿). And of course I did.
“The letters have been extremely interesting, especially over the war years. "
Dulcie and Nancie first met their pen pals Barbara and Beatrice in Sydney, 50 years after they first started writing.
"We've had $o many photos of them that, when they came down the stairs at the airport, I recognized them at once," Dulcie said. "We're still going. I received three letters in the last month. "
Dulcie's daughter became a pen pal with Beatrice's daughter when she was eight. And their third generation has kept in close contact on Facebook and met each other for the first time in Canada a few years ago.
