Mo Yan, 57, become the first Chinese to win a Nobel Prize in Literature(文学)on Oct. 11. The award described Mo’s work as a mixture of fantasy(幻想)and reality, combining historical and social opinions. Mo Yan was born in1955 and grew up in Gaomi in Shandong. His parents were poor farmers. At the age of 12, he had to leave school and start work, first in the field and then in a factory.
