It’s often said that your parents’ job is to make sure that one day you no longer need them. And that’s certainly the case by the time you have kids of your own. However, this is precisely the time when your parents start to need you. How do you talk to your aging parents about their health? 1., but these tips make it easier.

Scientists recommend beginning a conversation about something you’re doing—taking up yoga to stay slim, for instance. 3.. And you can even have her commit to doing it with you. When you’re a friend day-to-day, your parents will trust you and be able to depend on you during a health crisis.
4.. Start by equipping them with a smartphone that’s designed for seniors. Staying in close phone contact will keep you informed of any arising health issues. It will help you pick up on faults in their memory, too.
Your parents are your parents until they’re gone. Do not treat them like children. Even if you find that there’s an emergency going on, you can make suggestions, but they have the right to make decisions, especially if there’s no cognitive (认知的) disorder. 5., helping your parents in their later years is the least you can do. The FDA is the common name for the Food and Drug Administration. It is a government agency that makes consumer goods safe. It regulates food and the food supply. It also controls diet supplement. The FDA also makes sure that drugs and medical devices are safe and effective.
For drugs and medical machines to be accepted, they must go through a lengthy process. There are many strict tests. First, anything that humans use must be tested on animals. This may take up to 6 years. Then, it must be tested with a few people. Testing on 15 to 20 people can last up to a year and a half. Third, a mid-sized group (100 to 500 people) is used. This often takes two years. Then a large group is tested over 3 years. Of 5,000 drugs discovered, only 5 enter trials. Of that, only one passes on to the market.
Food supplements like ginseng (人参) follow a different path. The FDA does not pre-test them as they do for drugs. The agency only controls these products if they are unsafe but are already being sold. Two exceptions are baby and medical food. Because those that use them are not strong, the FDA is more careful with these products.
Labeling(标签) is a major focus. A label must show what a product is for. For drugs, labels should say the name of the drug and what it is used for. It should also detail who should take it and list any side effects. It needs to detail directions for pregnant women, children, or old people. It also needs to detail safety information.

A
My friend Robert started a new job this week and he’s been in the training class for two days. The employer has a very strict dress code—dark blue shirts and pants.
On the first day, an older gentleman in his class did not have the proper clothes and he was strictly told that he would be fired if he didn’t have the right clothes the next day. He explained, “Sir, I had not been told about this. Because of my larger size, it’s sometimes difficult to find the right clothing for a price I can afford.”
Last night, Robert and I decided that this old man shouldn’t lose the chance of work simply because he couldn’t afford the clothes. I had some cash on hand and Robert took it with him this morning just in case it was needed.
When training started this morning, the trainer was ready to fire the older gentleman. “You have 10 minutes to be in proper clothes,” he was told. At this point, Robert spoke up and asked if he could have 10 minutes to get him the clothes. He then ran out to the store and bought the proper-sized pants and a shirt; he returned with both and gave them to the older man.
The older gentleman began to cry and told him that he couldn’t accept such a gift from a stranger. Robert told him he had to because he had lost the receipt(收据) and couldn’t return them—a little white lie. The pants were a perfect fit, the shirt was a bit tight but he was able to keep his job.
“My wife and I tried to gather together some money last night, but we didn’t have enough to buy the clothes,” he told Robert. “It’s unbelievable to me that anybody would do such a thing for only knowing me a day!”
More unbelievable is how good it has made Robert and me feel to do this.
1.If the older man did not have the proper clothes, he would _____
A.be punished | B.be offered another job |
C.put off the training class | D.lose his job |

C.He told the older man that he could save money and return it later. |
D.He told the older man that he had no way to send them back. |
4.What might be the best title for the passage?

After the summer break, Delhi’s children returned to school this month and found a new class added to their schedules: happiness.
It wasn’t a welcome-back joke. In a country where top universities require average test scores above 98 percent and where cheating on final high school exams is organized by a “mafia” that includes teachers and school officials, the Delhi government's new scheme marks a change of emphasis(强调)from student performance to well-being.
“We have given best-of-the-best graduates of ability to industry,” said Manish Sisodia, Delhi’s education minister, “…But have we been able to supplied best-of-the-best human beings to society, to the nation? “
Sisodia’s happiness classes represent a major experiment in a country known for its overstrict, bookish education system, which has helped cement a new middle class over the past thirty years but is also poorly thought of for encouraging rote(死记硬背的) learning and causing high pressure levels. Under the program, 100,000 Delhi students spend the first half-hour of each school day without opening a textbook, learning instead through inspirational stories and activities, as well as such thinking exercises as meditation.
Some teachers, though, remain uncertain. Some of them say, the public schools are too crowded for a course based so heavily on classroom interaction(互动). Others doubt that the happiness classes can change the culturally deep-rooted emphasis on exams and memorization. Geeta Gandhi Kingdon, chair of education, economics and international development at University College London, said that there haven’t been any studies to value their workability. “As far as I know, in some schools they are just another box-ticking exercise,” she said.
1.What’s the author’s purpose of writing the first paragraph?
A.To tell a welcome-back joke. B.To introduce a new program.
C.To argue against the testing system D.To emphasize studies mixed with happiness
2.Which of the following is the closest in meaning to the underlined word “cement “ in paragraph 4?
A.preview B.attend C.destroy D.increase
3.How is the fourth paragraph mainly developed?
A.By giving examples. B.By making comparisons.
C.By following time order. D.By listing data
4.What's Geeta Gandhi Kingdon’s attitude towards the possibility of happiness classes?
A.confident B.hopeless C.doubtful D.indifferent
5.Which is the best title for this passage?
A.Delhi’s children return to school
B.Delhi offers “ happiness “ classes
C.Happiness classes become Welcome in Delhi
D.Happy classes prove another box-ticking exercise
