If you are in a town in a western country, you'll often see people walking with their dogs. It is still true that a dog is the most useful animal in the world. But the reason why one keeps a dog has changed Once upon a time, a man met a dog and wanted it to help him in the fight against other animals, and he found that the dog listened to him and did what he told him to. Later people used dogs for the hunting other animals, and the dogs didn't eat what they got until their master agreed. So dogs were used for driving sheep and guarding chicks. But now the people in the towns and cities do not need dogs to fight other animals. Of course they keep them to frighten thieves, but the most important reason is that people feel lonely in the city. For a child, a dog is his best friend when he has no friends to play with. For a young wife, a dog is her child when she doesn’t have her own. For old people, a dog is also a child when their real children have grown up and left. Now people do not have to use a dog, but they keep it as a friend, just like a member of the family.

A. No other animals B. Some animals C. Many animals D. A few animals
2.In the past people kept dogs because dogs _________.

3.Now people keep dogs in the cities because dogs_____.

C. are like their friends D. are afraid of the thieves
4.A dog can be _____.
A. a child's friend only B. a young woman's son
C. old people's real child D. everybody's friend
5.So a dog will __ in a family.
A. always be used B. not be useful
C. still fight D. always be a good friend

On Sunday 23 April, most than 30,000 people participated in the 2017 London Marathon, running 26.2 miles (42.2 kilometres)around the city center.
The London Marathon has taken place every year since 1981. At the first one, just 6, 225 people completed the course, and since then it has grown into one of the biggest sporting events in the world. It is one of the ‘World Marathon Majors’, which is a competition made up of six global marathon events. The overall male and female winners receive $1 million in prize money between them There are eleven people who have run every London Marathon since it began—they call themselves the ‘Ever Presents.’
This year, the winners of the London Marathon were surprisingly both from Kenya—Daniel Wanjiru, who finished in 2 hours and 5 minutes, and Mary Keitany, whose time was 2 hours and 17 minutes.
However, most marathon runners are not professional athletes. They are amateurs who have trained for months to raise money for charity or just as a personal challenge. For example, Tom Harrison took three days just to reach the run’s halfway point, as he is crawling the course on his hands and knees dressed as a gorilla(大猩猩), trying to raise money and attention for the charity ‘The Gorilla Organisation’.
Matthew Rees was another runner to encourage people, as he stopped just before the finish line to help David Wyeth run the last 200m.They did not know each other before, but Matthew saw that David was exhausted and possibly close to collapsing, and wanted to help him finish.
Every year there are lots of touching stories like this from the London Marathon, and it is a huge achievement even to run the 26.2 miles !

How often do you read a newspaper? About 10 million people read every day in the UK. The most popular newspapers are the tabloids(小报), which are full of celebrity(名人) news and how did these papers get their stories?
Simple! Some have been breaking the law! They’ve been doing this by hacking into people’s mobile phones and stealing private information. Police found out about this back in 2005. At the time, reporters working on The News of The World were accused of hacking the phones of the royal family and other famous people.
But it soon became clear that other celebrities were also victims. They include author J.K. Rowling, actor Hugh Grant and actress Sienna Miller. As a result of the scandal(丑闻), Murdoch(the owner of The News of The World) was forced to close down The News of The World, and David Cameron(the former British Prime Minister) announced that there would be an inquiry(调查) into the press.
Lord Justice Leveson(a leading English judge) was appointed to lead the inquiry. On opening the first session Leveson said, “The press provides an essential check on all aspects of public life. That’s why any failure within the media affects all of us. At the heart of this inquiry, therefore may be one simple question: who guards the guardians?” The inquiry is focusing on three major areas: the relationship between the press and 1. ...the public. 2. ...the police. 3. ...politics.
The big question is, what changes are going to be made as a result of the inquiry? Defenders of freedom of the press are worried that journalists won’t be allowed to investigate freely, and that new laws will be introduced to limit what they can and can’t do. At present, journalists often use undercover techniques to get a story, especially if it’s in the public interest.
1.How do the tabloids get news about celebrities?
A.They all have to break the law to get the private news.
B.Some use illegal ways to get private information.
C.They get celebrities’ private information by phoning.
D.They steal private information by using a mobile phone.
2.What is Leveson’s attitude to the press?
A.He has pity on the press.
B.He is against the press.
C.He will punish the press.
D.He will be good to the press.
3.What does the underlined word refer to in the fourth paragraph?
A.Lord Justice. B.The press. C.The common people. D.The police.
4.What is the best title of the article?
A.Journalists in trouble. B.The law in trouble.
C.Celebrities in trouble. D.Lord Justice in trouble.
