Dear Sir,
Just over six months ago, I saw an advertisement in the Morning Mail for a set of the complete works of William Shakespeare.Your company, Cosmo books Ltd , offered this set ( eight books of plays and two books of poetry) at a “remarkable” price: fifteen pounds and fifty pence, including postage and packing. I had wanted a set of Shakespeare's plays and poems for some time, and these books looked particularly attractive, so I sent for them.
Two weeks later, the books arrived, together with a set of works of Charles Dickens which I had not ordered. So I returned the Dickens books to you, with a cheque for fifteen pounds and fifty pence for the works of Shakespeare. Two more weeks passed. Then there arrived on my door step a second set of the works of Shakespeare, the same set of novels by Dickens and a six book set of the plays of Moliere, in French.Since I do not read French, these were of no use to me at all. However, I could not afford to post all these books back to you, so I wrote to you right away instructing you to come and collect all the books that I did not want, and asking you not to send any other books until further notice.
You did not reply to that letter. Instead you sent me a bill for forty two pounds, and a set of the plays of Schiller, in German.Since then, a new set of books has arrived every two weeks, the works of Goethe, the poems of Milton, the plays of Strindberg; I hardly know what I have. The books are still all in their boxes, in the garage, and my car has to stand in the rain outside.
Please send no more books, send no more bills, send no more angry letters demanding payment.Just send one large lorry and take all the books away, leaving me only with the one set of the complete works of Shakespeare for which I have paid.
Yours faithfully,
SIMON WALKER

This past week I was assigned to go without technology for six hours for study. I assumed that it was going to be impossible. Nowadays, people have become so dependent on technology. We are so addicted to it that we will panic when we can’t remember where we have put our phone.
I began my day at 9 am, turning off my phone. I grabbed my wrist watch and some textbooks and set off for my day. I went to a coffee shop for breakfast and as I sat down, instead of pulling out my phone, I pulled out the book I was currently reading. As I ate my bread, I felt like it was more delicious and that I could actually enjoy reading because I wasn’t checking my phone every few seconds. I could actually appreciate what I was reading and absorb it. I had entertainment and I was able to keep track of time with my watch.
In the afternoon I found myself in the library, I had to study for an upcoming math test. So the lack of technology was actually a blessing for me. I took out my textbooks and began to work on writing out all the definitions I had to learn in pencil. During the process, I found that I just never had the patience or attention span before.
Those six hours taught me that we don’t really need technology. We have just psychologically tricked our brains into thinking that we need to constantly be on it, checking what our friends are doing and making sure we are also doing something. Technology constantly bombards (轰击) us with information. That day I wasn’t stressed over why a friend of mine was texting me, and I was just doing something for myself. Technology takes away all the simple moments, which we now take for granted because we are so addicted to it that we don’t take the time to notice the world and the small things around us.
1.What’s people’s problem with the technology? (no more than 6 words)
2.What did the author find in the coffee shop? (no more than 10 words)
3.What does the underlined part in Paragraph 3 mean? (no more than 15 words)
4.According to the last paragraph, what’s the author’s attitude toward technology? (1 word)
5.How do you think we should handle technology? (no more than 20 words)

I volunteered to work at my local Oxfam shop in North London in 2010 for nearly four months. It was a typical charity shop. I would go in a few times a week to work for a/an ________ of hours.
My responsibility as a volunteer for Green Initiatives in Shanghai has been very different. I ________ to China in September 2014 to work as a teacher in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, a neighboring city of Shanghai. I also wanted to ________ my interest in the environmental sector.
In early September, I met Nick and Nitin, founders of Green Initiatives, at one of their events and, in ________ of my teaching background, they decided that I would be a good fit for their student outreach program, an environmental education-training program for high school students in Shanghai.
I was given the ________ of creating their student modules and since then I have put together four higher-level student modules, which introduce key environmental issues such as food waste, recycling and sustainable consumption. I am also currently working ________ another two modules focused on energy conservation.
It involves a lot of research, and I usually end up ________ around 10 to 15 hours a week searching through science textbooks, online articles and government websites to find relevant and accurate ________.
I find the research ________ because I get to find out about what new ________ and technologies are being developed to deal with environmental problems. ________ to working in a shop, I find this job is quite rewarding, since I am ________ something that can not be obtained from books.
I also ________ many of the Green Initiatives events. These events are one of the best things about volunteering because I get the ________ to network and meet ________ people who have ideas about ________ to make Shanghai ‘greener.’
When I am at the events, we often have Chinese speakers, and so the events have also been an interesting ________ experience for me.
One of the biggest differences between my experience ________ at Oxfam and Green Initiatives is the motivations of the people you meet and work with. At Oxfam, the motivations were varied. People were there to ‘do their bit for charity,’ to earn a living, or ________ because they could only afford the things we sold.
Speaking to people in China, motivations are also varied but the main driver is the environmental degradation, such as air pollution, which affects, or at least concerns, many of these people in their everyday lives.
As the student modules are coming to an end, I am looking forward to being involved in the upcoming projects in Shanghai, especially when the sun comes out and we can ________ more outdoor events.
