There is a window of opportunity in terms of IQ development, which is most open during a child’s early years. A scientific study, carried out by Dr. Peter Huttenlocher at the University of Chicago, showed that the number of connectors, called synapses（神经元突触）, between the nerve endings in a newborn baby’s brain is similar to the number in the average adult brain. These synapses increase rapidly during early childhood. By 12-24 months a child’s brain has about 50% more synapses than the average adult brain. After that the synapses which are not in use begin to atrophy（衰退）. For most people, from age 16, the number remains steady. It begins to drop again as we move into our golden years. My mother and I started our morning by rushing into the local grocery store. I waited in line at the Starbucks counter while she around to pick up a few things.
As I was there I noticed an elderly woman, wearing layers (层) layers of old torn clothing, moving behind me in line.
She had a few toiletries(化妆品)and seemed to want the Starbucks cashier to since our queue was shorter than the grocery store queues were.

Then it was my to order. As the cashier rang up my total I discovered I was 37 cents . I called to my mother but she is hard of hearing. She asked me to what I said but she still couldn't me out.
At that point, a long grey arm, with in its sleeves, over from behind me. She laid 37 cents out on the counter, saying, "Here, We all need some sometimes."
I was ! Here was a woman who clearly had very little to and in great need herself. I had judged her and she had reached out, voluntarily, to help me!

She spent well over 4 hours with us, driving us around to help fix our car and protect us until we were safe. She even followed us for a short time on the freeway until she knew we were well on our way safely. We were blessed that day, and when I told her she was an angel she just said we would do the same thing, and she was right, I would and I will again!
