When we heard that our friend astronaut Gregory Chamitorff was going to be on board the last flight of the space shuttle Endeavour, we asked him if he would answer some questions from space. He said yes!
Here are our questions and Greg’s answers from space.
What’s the best thing about being in space?
Zero-gravity(失重) is by far the best thing about being in space. It does not really mean that there is no gravity. It means that we are moving around Earth in the same way the space station is moving around Earth. So we are floating inside the space station.
We travel around Earth once every 90 minutes. That’s 16 sunrises and sunsets every day. Really fast!
Inside the station, we can fly around like superman. It’s an amazing feeling, and I hope everyone gets a chance to fly in space someday to experience the wonder of zero-gravity.
What do you do for fun in the space shuttle?
There are so many things you can do in zero-gravity that are fun. Flying around is fun. Eating food that floats is fun.
I like to play like Superman and see how far I can fly without touching any walls. Another fun thing is to play with water. Most of all, the most exciting thing to do is to look out the window at our beautiful planet Earth below. You never get tired of seeing it like that, the way it really is and it can never be seen that way while standing on its surface.
What’s the coolest thing about being on a spacewalk?
Wow! Doing a spacewalk is cool. There is nothing more wonderful than floating in space in your own space suit. It’s amazing, and when you are doing a spacewalk, you are “out there” just floating in empty space, like the earth, like the moon, like the sun, like the space station. It’s not science fiction. It’s real.
1. Why does Greg think doing a spacewalk is the coolest thing?
A. He can wear his own space suit then.
B. He can see the moon when doing that.
C. He can see the earth by doing so.
D. He thinks it’s great flying in empty space.
2.Which of the following best shows how Greg feels?
A. Frightened B. Excited C. Sad D. Surprised
3.What can we know from the text?
A. Greg thinks doing a spacewalk is science fiction.
B. Greg floats inside the space station without gravity.
C. Everyone has the chance to experience the wonder of zero-gravity.
D. In the space shuttle, Greg can see the shape of the whole earth clearly.

This past summer I went on a journey to Canada’s Arctic with Students On Ice. When I left Calgary I wondered what I would find what I would learn and who I would meet. On the trip to Ottawa I was wrapped in a blanket of uncertainty and excitement. But when I first met the group of students, scientists and leaders, I knew that l didn’t have anything to worry about. The group was amazingly receptive and I was soon part of a big family setting out on an amazing adventure—an adventure of a lifetime!
When we reached the Arctic I saw a vast Land that appeared untouched and original. I was surprised by its great size and beauty and my senses were repeatedly shocked and amazed. I stood on the Kapitan Khlebnikov and saw twelve polar bears. They walked in search of seal holes, and patiently waited for a meal. I learned that polar bears are successful only one out of every twenty hunting attempts.
However, I learned that the Arctic and its people are being threatened by pollution and global warming. I learned that pollutants are carried by ocean and air and have a bad effect on all Arctic people. I learned that global warming has put polar bears at risk because a warmer climate means that they have a shorter time to hunt seals on the ice.
The trip was a feast (盛宴) for the senses. I have learned more about our environment, and particularly how alive and interesting the Arctic is and why it is so important to take care of it. I learned pollution, ignorance of individual and global problems need to be solved. The Arctic deserves to he preserved. My trip with Students On Ice has made me more determined to try to ensure that I do not leave harmful footprints on either Earth or its people.
1.What can we learn from the first paragraph?
A. The writer was too excited to bring a blanket.
B. The writer was thrilled and full of wonder before the trip.
C. The group the writer joined was strict with its members.
D. The writer found it hard to fit in with the group.
2.Which is true about the polar bears according to the passage?
A. It’s not easy for them to catch seals.
B. They are at risk because the land is vast and untouched.
C. They prefer a little warmer climate.
D. They warmly welcomed the writer and her party.
3.How did the writer feel about the trip according to the last paragraph?
A. Surprising. B. Alarming.
C. Appealing. D. Rewarding.
4.What would be the best title for the passage?
A. Global Warming and Canada’s Arctic B. The Arctic Is under Severe Threat
C. My Trip to the Canadian Arctic D. Polar Bears and Me

Last week I took a journey deep into space, to the end of the solar system, and was pulled into a black hole. Then I took a trip to Brazil and experienced surviving an airplane crash in the jungle. After that, I joined some divers and went to the bottom of the ocean to see strange blind creatures that have never seen sunlight. For a break, I took part in some car racing and then skied down some of the most difficult mountains in the world. I ended my travels by meeting face to face with a dinosaur, the terrible T-Rex, and survived the experience!
I did all this in one great day at Futuroscope. Opened in 1987, Futuroscope is one of the largest space age parks in the world. This science and technology-based theme park in France uses the most advanced technology. Its 3-D cinemas and giant movie screens provide brand new experiences of the earth and beyond. Visitors can get close to parts of the world they have never experienced, going to the bottom of the ocean, flying through the jungle or visiting the edges of the solar system. The amazing, up-to-date information together with many opportunities for hands-on learning makes the world come to life in a completely new way for visitors. Learning centers throughout the park let visitors try their own scientific experiments, as well as learn more about space travel, the undersea world and much more.
I bought tickets for myself and my friends at the park’s entrance, but tickets are also available online. Futuroscope is not only for indiviudals, but is also the perfect mix of fun and learning for class outings. Classes or other large groups that let Futuroscope know their plans in advance can get the group admission rate. For anyone coming from out of town, Futuroscope has many excellent hotels, most of which provide a shuttle service to the park. If driving, Futuroscope is within easy reach of the freeway. Plan your trip well before starting, since Futuroscope has so many shows, activities and great souvenir shops that it is difficult to see them all. Come ready to walk a lot—be sure to wear some comfortable sneakers or other walking shoes!
1.What is Futuroscope?
A. A theme park for children in America.
B. A theme park that provides only fun and excitement.
C. A theme park that provides people with outstanding experience without leaving the earth and the present time.
D. A theme park that uses the most advanced technology to take people out of the earth and the present time.
2.What is the main idea of Paragraph 2?
A. The things I did at Futuroscope.
B. The history of Futuroscope.
C. General information about how to visit the park.
D. A general description of the park.
3.According to the passage, which of the following is true?
A. Most of us will go to the bottom of the ocean or to the edges of the solar system.
B. Future theme parks are places for fun and excitement but not for learning.
C. Future theme parks allow people to see and do things without danger but with much money.
D. In the future theme parks, there are learning centers for people to try scientific experiments.
