My husband and I recently went to Disney World with our children and grandchildren. We had a wonderful time and made lots of sweet memories together, but unexpectedly, I learned something as we made our way through the parks.
Our four grandchildren were excited about the attraction where children can drive the cars. Since our party was uneven (不均匀的) in numbers and two people fit in each car, I sat out that one and headed down to get pictures of everyone as they drove past on the track.
As I waited for my gang to drive by, I noticed a car with a father and his son who looked to be about 7. They rolled down the hill at the beginning, and then the car stopped. The young driver looked panicked, “I can’t do it.” His father quietly said, “Yes, you can.”
“No. I can’t!” “Yes, you can, son.”
The little guy was almost in tears, “I CAN’T!” With deep patience, the father said, “Son, you can do this. I’m going to help you.” Then he talked him through pushing the gas pedal (油门踏板) and driving the car. Mere moments later with the father helping his son, the two went smoothly on their way down the track.
The scene brought tears to my eyes. That sweet whispered to my soul, “Yes, you can”. Then every time things got hard or when I had failures along the way, I would think “You can”.
Time and time again, the words patiently encouraged me on the journey. That’s where the true strength comes in. I am aware that I can not do things under my own power, but the words “Yes, you can” come beside me and provide wisdom and strength. There’s no way I can fail. Are you struggling with something today? Have the “I can’t” moments taken over? You can trust the words “Yes, you can”.
1.What did the author think of her family’s trip to Disney World?

3.What did the boy’s father do?
A.He encouraged the boy. B.He let the boy drive all by himself.
C.He took the place of the boy and drove. D.He was unwilling to help the boy.
4.What can be inferred from the text?
A.The author enjoyed traveling very much.
B.The author was unwilling to help lazy children.
C.“You can” has helped the author a lot.
D.The author hasn’t failed in anything.

Recently my husband had his Achilles tendon(跟腱) cut when feeding a chicken. When sitting in the doctor’s office waiting for surgery stressfully, I decided to treat myself for a minute and start to read about “The Little House on the Prairie”. Suddenly I felt my life seemed like a slack(懈怠) compared to the Ingalls who do all their washing and cooking but they feel so happy. Their every happiness is created from the work with their own hands. Yet I’m walking around feeling sorry for myself because I’m picking up the slack! So I’m thinking “Work it out! Get up and get busy.”
It really is true. I realize that I’m happiest when accomplishing tangible(有形的) productive work—working in the yard and washing my dishes—brings me happiness. This does not surprise Kelly Lambert Ph.D. She has been researching the phenomenon she calls “effort-rewards”. When you do meaningful work with your hands, a kind of neurochemical feedback floods your brain with dopamine and serotonin. These happy brain chemicals are natural antidepressants, and we’ve evolved to release them both to reward ourselves for working with our hands and to motivate ourselves to do it some more. Dr. Lambert says Americans have become more depressed in recent years and at the same time we’ve experienced a decrease in purposeful physical activity. Did we lose something vital to our mental health when we started pushing buttons instead of ploughing the fields?
Dr. Pansinski says she gets that happy look when she prepares a meal at the end of a day. “We are programmed to reward ourselves when we accomplish things with our hands. For so many people, it just feels as though everything’s going so fast—life, kids, hundreds of e-mails a day. There is so little you can really see and hold on to. Working with one’s hands is a way to slow down, to take pleasure in life again.”
1.Before reading “The Little House On the Prairie”, the writer might think the Ingalls were ________.
A. unknown B. hardworking
C. foolish D. unhappy
2.The writer develops the first paragraph in a way of ________.
A. giving an example B. making a comparison

A. her “effort-rewards” is popular among American people
B. working with our hands makes our brain tired easily
C. a decrease in physical work causes people in low mood.
D. we should work with our hands instead of using machine
4.From what Dr. Pansinski says, we can conclude that ________.
A. time and tide wait for no man
B. we should lower our expectation for life
C. it’s better to leave today’s work to tomorrow
D. we should never hurry our life too much

Something I enjoy doing most in my leisure time is going to the cinema to watch a great film. It's two hours of relaxation and escapism from real life. But when I kick back in my seat to enjoy the film and tuck into (大口吃) my box of popcorn, I'm often irritated by seeing someone next to me texting on their mobile phone or worse still, talking to someone.
It's no surprise that a proposal by a US cinema chain to let people use their phones during some film screenings was met with such anger, that the company had to withdraw the idea. People said it was the worst idea ever! Surely, going to watch the latest film is just that — watching not multi-screening. And if you're out with a friend it seems very antisocial or just rude. I certainly get distracted (分心的) by the click-click on someone's mobile keyboard as they text and the glow of the bright small phone screen — why aren't they concentrating on the big screen?
But with the availability of streaming films at home and cheap DVDs, cinemas are struggling to keep their customers. Some places now offer comfortable seats with free snacks and drinks so maybe trying to attract a younger audience by allowing the use of mobile phones is the way forward. A survey in 2012found that a majority of 18-to-34-year-olds believed using social media while watching a movie would add to their experience.
However, not every young person wants to multi-task at the movies. Many of us still get annoyed by the theatre staff who appear not to do anything about it. Of course, we could ask the offenders to turn their phones off but as Adam Aron, head of AMC Entertainment, said in Variety magazine, "when you tell a 22-year-old to turn off the phone, don't ruin the movie, they hear ‘please cut off your left arm above the elbow’ " Clearly this is not what I would like to see but if you want to use your mobile phone in the cinema that I'm at, please don't sit next to me! What do you think is the right thing to do?
1.The underlined word "irritated" in Paragraph 1 means ______ .
A.annoyed B.depressed
C.terrified D.embarrassed
2.Which of the following is True of the US cinema chain's original advice? ______
A.They forbade people to use the phone.
B.The advice was carried out smoothly.
C.The advice was very popular with people.
D.They permitted people to use the phone.
3.What can we infer from Paragraph 3? ______
A.People prefer to watch films and DVD at home.
B.The cinema needn't worry about their customers.
C.Young people use their social media frequently.
D.Sending messages is the best experience for young people.
4.What is the author's attitude towards multi-task at the movies? ______
A.Sympathy. B.Disapproval.
C.Enthusiasm. D.Encouragement.

My husband Ollie had retired from teaching and we were making plans to travel together to Florida. Then he was terribly ill and became very weak, hardly able to speak. Weeks passed and it became clear that Ollie was near death, but I prayed day and night that he could get better.
One of us was always in Ollie’s hospital room—either me, or our grown children, Bruce and Karen. One day, in his broken and weak speech, Ollie told Bruce, “Go home. You should be with Gwen.” Gwen was Bruce’s wife. They had been married for six years and lived hundreds of miles away. Gwen was about to have a baby. We felt an extra sadness, knowing Ollie would never see his first grandchild.
“I don’t want to leave you, Dad,” Bruce said. Ollie repeated, “You should be with Gwen.” Reluctantly, Bruce left. “When the baby comes,” he promised Ollie, “you will be the first to know.” A few days later, around 2 p.m., Ollie awoke from a sleep. He turned and looked at me. I sat close to hear his weak words. “The baby is coming now. It’s a boy,” he said. For a moment his eyes were filled with tears. Then he went back to sleep again. Not long after that, Karen ran into the room. “Bruce called,” she said, a smile lighting her face. “Gwen gave birth to a healthy baby boy around two o’ clock.”
Ollie smiled; he had been the first to know. That night, Ollie died in his sleep.
