With a dozen vehicles freed by noon，the guests set off down the driveway. But when they reached the main road，the path was blocked by a six-foot-high wall of snow. Matrone climbed out of his car and investigated it. There was no road in sight，“We’re trapped!”he told his wife. So they had no choice but to make their way back to the hotel.
As it was getting dark，they managed to be back. That was when the snow on the mountain began to slide. They heard the avalanche(雪崩)before they saw it. The avalanche gathered speed and size，grabbing rocks and trees and anything else in its way down the mountain，tearing the hotel from its foundation. When the avalanche came to a stop，those caught inside the hotel were left buried in the icy rocks and ruins.

Mother told the girls to watch the ship while she tried to sound the alarm and warn the home guard in the nearby village. The girls watched helplessly as the great ship drew near. Two small boats were lowered off the side, and Rebecca knew the boats would come ashore quickly.
It was time to run. As they ran down the lighthouse stairs, Rebecca suddenly stopped when she saw her fife(横笛). Oh my! She thought. It just might work… Rebecca grabbed the fife and the drum(鼓) that Abigail had been learning to play.

But while his hand remained in mine, his eyes fell on the candy dish sitting nearby.

She looked around and there was nobody nearby to share her discovery. “It is mine. All mine.” she said to herself. “I will buy mum a new coat with it, and she can give her old one to sister Mary, and then Mary can go to the Sunday school with me next winter. I wonder if I can buy a pair of shoes for brother Tom too.”
Just at that moment, she realized that Jason must have given the extra money to her by mistake, and therefore she had no right to own it. But a voice of temptation (诱惑) whispered, “He gave it, and you can keep it. He will never know, even if it is a mistake. ”
