Be at your best!
What does your brain need to work well? Here are some things it needs.
Good food
Experts say that breakfast is much more important than any other meal. 1.. So don’t miss breakfast — especially before an exam! But you need to eat a good breakfast — junk food won’t work.
A regular supply of energy
Your brain needs a regular supply of energy, so you need to eat carbohydrates. They’re found in bread, rice, pasta and beans. 2.. They work more quickly than bread and rice, so they give you a short burst (爆发) of energy, but afterwards you feel more tired.
A continuous supply of oxygen (氧气)
Your brain needs oxygen, which it gets from exercise. 3.. You also need a good supply of iron because iron helps your blood to carry oxygen round your body.
Water
4.. Not getting enough water will stop your brain from working well. And remember, water isn’t as expensive as sweet drinks!
5.
Your brain needs several hours’ sleep, so it can ‘update’ itself, just like a computer. Experts say that when you study for a test or an exam, you should get some sleep as quickly as possible after you’ve finished studying. This helps you to remember what you’ve learnt.
A. A short break
B. A good night’s sleep
C. It works best in the morning
D. Exercise improves your memory too
E. Water is much better than sweet drinks
F. Your brain works better when you have eaten
G. Chocolate, biscuits and sweets are not good for your brain

Many effects of a lack of sleep, such as being bad-tempered and not working at your best, are well known.1.Regular poor sleep puts you at risk of serious medical conditions, including obesity and heart disease, and it shortens your life expectancy.
How much sleep do we need?
2.But some need more and some less. What matters is that you find out how much sleep you need and then try to achieve it. As a general rule, if you wake up tired and spend the daylonging for a chance to have a nap, it's likely that you're not getting enough sleep.
3.
An occasional night without sleep makes you feel tired and irritable( 急躁易怒 ) the next day,but it won't harm your health. After several sleepless nights, the mental effects become more serious. Your brain will- fog, making it difficult to concentrate and make decisions. 4.
How to catch up on lost sleep?
If you don't get enough sleep, there's only one way to compensate (补偿) —getting more sleep.
5.If you've had months of limited sleep, you'll have built up a big sleep debt, so expect recovery to take several weeks.
Starting on a weekend, try to add on an extra hour or two of sleep a night. The way to do this is to go to bed when you’re tired and allow your body to wake you in the morning (no alarm clocks allowed!).
A. What happens if we don't sleep?
B. Why is a good sleep vital for a long life?
C. It won't happen with a single early night.
D. If it continues, lack of sleep can affect your overall health.
E. However, the cost of all those sleepless nights is more than those.
F. It's now clear that a solid night's sleep is essential for a long and healthy life.
G. Most of us need around 8 hours of good-quality sleep a night to function properly.

Life is difficult to everybody, so you need to organize your life well. Here are some suggestions which might give you some help to manage your life well.
Write everything down and do not rely on your memory. 1. If you want to remember things, put them in writing, or in a digital notebook. Keeping your to-do lists and other information written somewhere allows you to look back at them anytime, especially when you have hit your head and forgotten some of them.
2. Try this experiment before buying one thing, throw out something old or something you do not use. Or, if you are a really pack rat(不想扔任何东西的人), just throw out one old thing a day until you can not find any more items to throw.
Recycle and donate. Is your closet full of unopened bags and clothes that still have their tags(标签) on? Is your bookshelf full of unread books? Chances are that if you have not read, worn, or used whatever they are, they you are probably not going to use them at all. 3.
Create daily, weekly and monthly timetables for cleaning. Organize your cleaning timetable. 4. Distribute tasks properly, so for example, dish washing could be done daily while vacuuming(吸尘) could be done weekly and cleaning the windows done monthly. Whichever of these tasks you decide to do, remember that you can not completely organize your life in one go(一口气).
5. Just decide to get organized now, and then take baby steps. Soon enough, you will be making a habit out of it all.
A. Practice putting things away immediately
B. Throw one thing before buying something
C. It is a long and never-ending process, so be patient
D. Give them to a charity or sell on the internet
E. It is extremely exhausting to clean everything all at once
F. To keep up with tasks, you need to work with your family
G. We all agree most of us have a tough time remembering things

To learn English well you must learn about yourself. You must discover what your own special needs are in English. You should pick out what makes English different from your own language and concentrate on those parts. And above all, you should pick out your own personal weaknesses in English, pick out your own special problems, find out what mistakes you most often make and make a list of them.
It will be best if, in your preparation, you can practise doing the various sorts of work you will be asked to do in examination. You should then make a careful note of any mistakes you make more than once. Count up how many times you make each mistake, and the mistake you make most often should be at the top of your list, the next most common in second place, and so on.
For example, if your own language is Japanese, you may find the problem of articles comes at the top of your list. If you speak German, you may find using some of the conjunctions is your biggest problem. If your mother tongue is French, you find you are always having trouble with some of prepositions. And if Italian is your language, you may constantly forget to use a suitable pronoun when you should.
But these are only examples of mistakes typical of certain languages. They may or may not
be your particular personal mistakes. As I say, these personal ones are the most important of all to discover.
1.
To learn English well the most important thing is to ______.
A. learn about yourself as much as possible
B. discover your own special needs in the language
C. find out the difference between your own language and English
D. pick out your own personal weaknesses in English
2.
The writer advises the readers to ______ .
A. spend as much time on English as possible
B. take examinations of various sorts
C. find out their own problems in doing selected exercises
D. keep a notebook with the important languages points in it
3.
The first item on the list should be the mistake you make ______ .
A. more than once B. many times C. most often D. very often
