During the high school career, students may begin to question the importance of a college education. They might find themselves asking, “Why is it important to go to college?” The answer is that, more than ever, college graduates enjoy much greater opportunities available to them than those who have not received a college education.
For many high school students, being able to immediately generate an income after graduation is an appealing thought. They may also be affected by the rising cost of tuition, and while it is true that a higher education may be one of the largest expenses you will ever face, the importance of a college education has become quite evident in terms of earning potential within today’s economy.
Why should you go to college? One important answer to this question is more opportunity. As opposed to generations of the past, high school graduates today are unable to obtain high-paying jobs that were once available. The U.S. has been transformed from a manufacturing-based economy to an economy based on knowledge, and the importance of a college education today can be compared to that of a high school education forty years ago. It serves as the gateway to better options and more opportunity.
There are additional reasons as to why it is important to go to college. When students experience a post secondary education, they have the opportunity to read books and listen to the lectures of top experts in their fields. This encourages students to think, ask questions, and explore new ideas, which allows for additional growth and development and provides college graduates with more opportunities in the job market over those who have not experienced a higher education.
The importance of a college education is also stressed because of the opportunity to gain valuable resources during the study. The more connections which are collected during your college career, the more options you will have when you begin your job search. Once you have ended your job search and have started your career, however, the importance of a college education has not been exhausted. Having a college degree often provides for greater promotion opportunity.
So, why should you go to college? The reasoning does not begin and end with the job aspect. A good education is beneficial from many different viewpoints, and though the importance of a college education is quite evident for many high school students, what is often not as clear is how they will pay for that education.
1.Why do some high school graduates prefer working to college study?
A.To obtain high-paying jobs. B.To earn money at an early age.
C.To spend less money on tuition. D.To adapt to the knowledge-based society.
2.The author most likely agrees with the idea that ____.

Sleep is a basic necessity of life and it is as important to our health as air, food and water. When we sleep well, we wake up feeling energetic, alert and ready to face daily challenges. When we don’t every part of our lives can suffer.
A survey made by the 2002 National Sleep Foundation (NSF) in America found that 74 percent of American adults are experiencing a sleep problem a few nights a week or more and 39 percent get less than 7 hours of sleep each night and want to have a sleep during the day.
Getting enough continuous quality sleep influences how we feel and perform next day. Getting enough sleep refers to the amount of sleep you need not to feel tired next day. Although sleep experts generally recommend an average of 7-9 hours each night, some people can get along with less while others need as many as ten hours to feel energetic next day. Sleep requirements vary(变化)over the life cycle. Newborns and babies need a lot of sleep and have several periods of sleep throughout a 24-hour time period. Teenagers’ sleep patterns turn to a later sleep-wake cycle, but they still need around 9 hours of sleep. Throughout adulthood, even as we get older, we need 7-9 hours of sleep. Sleep patterns may change, but the need for sleep remains the same.
According to the 2002 poll. Over 80 percent of American adults believe that not getting enough sleep leads to poor performance at work, risk of injury, poor health and difficulty getting along with others. Often, people become easily annoyed due to lack of sleep. Recent research suggests that lack of sleep also leads to approximately 100,00 sleep-related traffic accidents each year and results in 1,500 deaths.
If you are having sleep problems, turn to a sleep diary published by the National Sleep Foundation. A sleep diary helps you examine some of your health and sleep habits so that you and your doctor can find some reasons for poor sleep. Establishing a regular bed and wake-up schedule may also help you sleep well. Besides, talking to your doctor or a sleep specialist is of great help. Most sleep disorders can be successfully treated once properly diagnosed(诊断).

When my college life begins, I feel it is quite different from senior high school life.
Above all, there are various activities on the campus(校园). They arouse our enthusiasm and we all like to take part in them, from which we benefit much.
Besides, we have to learn how to look after ourselves. When I was in high school, I lived with my parents and they took perfect care of me. But now, I'm in a new place. If I still depend on others, I would never adapt myself to the new surroundings. So college life makes me mature.
In senior high school, teachers would drive me to study if I didn't work hard. But now, it seems to be another story--study becomes my own business(actually it should always be). Stay focused and relaxed. Focused and relaxed? Does that sound impossible? Well, what we mean is this: keep your mind on the test, but don’t tighten up. 2.. Read the directions. Take a minute to read the test instructions before you get started. 4.. And you won’t have to waste time going back and redoing any work because you don’t understand the directions.
And finally --- one more important thing. Once the test is over, try not to think about it for a while.
