This past week, I took a huge step in my adult life. I flew on a plane and got to a new city that I had never been to all by myself.1..So it took a lot for me to be able to overcome my fear of flying on a plane alone.
In the months leading up to the trip, I was very nervous. I rarely travel long distances, and often avoid airplanes. However, I knew that I desperately wanted to go on this trip.2. My fears almost kept me from getting on the plane, but I knew I had to prove to myself that I was able to figure out things for myself and take my first huge step in becoming an adult.
On my drive to the airport, I did my best to keep calm and instill(逐步培养)enough confidence in myself to allow me to do this all by myself. 3.I went through security and made it to my gate, without getting lost. Then I got on my flight. I took my seat on the plane and tightly held my armrests (扶手)until we made it into the air. The whole flight, I just sat back and took some deep breaths until we finally landed. Now all I had to do was find my luggage and catch my ride. 4.
All in all, this trip has helped me to realize that I should be more confident about my abilities. I now know that I’m able to do whatever I set my mind to. 5.
A. Now I had to sit and wait to get on my flight.
B. I was wondering if everything would be fine.
C. I just need to have a little confidence in myself.
D. So I decided that I would just have to get through it.
E. At this point, I realized that I made it all on my own.
F. I am someone who is always nervous and living in fear.
G. I walked into the airport alone, leaving my family outside at the checking desk.

On Thursday night my two adult children took us out to dinner as our daughter lives in Bathurst and she will be there for Father’s Day with her husband’s side of the family. Two of our grandchildren were able to join us.
Having pre-celebrated my Father’s Day and it being on our minds, my wife asked this question only this morning:
“Do you remember anything about your father?”
While this subject had come up before, however, the question had not been put so bluntly(直率的). I answered “No. My only memory is of the few photos outside.” You see, my father died when I was only four years old.
Many people have lost their father early in life and it is easy to feel somewhat sorry for having to deal with such a situation, especially when the death has occurred when you are at an early age. On reflection, I think I do not remember anything because he passed away when he was a member of the Royal Australian Air Force. He was a Corporal(下士) doing land based duties, however, a medical condition took his life. It was 1942.
The 2nd World War was in full battle and Australia was being attacked. My Mum and I, with my younger brother, were living with my grandparents and I can only imagine the emotional circumstances that existed in the household at that time. Probably not something that would leave a memory.
What I would like to say at this time, as the question is often asked, “What did you learn from your father?” The thing I learnt from his passing, at the age of 28, is a love of life. What I do remember is growing up wondering if I would live to his age, and after I did, thinking each year the bonus(津贴) of life I had been blessed with when compared to my father.
I have sometimes felt disappointment in not knowing my father but life has moved on. However, can I say to those who do have fathers, celebrate today with him and return him all the love and happiness he has given to you.

A. realize the love of his own life. B. hope to live longer than his father.
C. feel very disappointed all the time. D. want to get more bonus from life.
4.What is the author mainly talking about in this passage?
A. His father’s life. B. His Father’s Day.

Every week for the past thirty years, I have hosted a Sunday dinner in my home. People, including total strangers, call or e-mail to book a spot. I hold the salon in my studio. The first fifty people who call may come-twice that many when the weather is nice and we can overflow into the garden.
1. Last week it was a philosophy student from Lisbon, and next week a dear friend from London will cook.
People from all corners of the world come to break bread together,to meet to talk, and often to become friends. All ages, nationalities, races, and professions gather here, and since there is no organized seating, the opportunity for connecting couldn’t be better. I love the randomness (随意).
I have a good memory^ so each week I make a point to remember everyone’s name on the guest list and where they’re from so I can introduce them to one another. If I had my way, I would introduce everyone in the whole world to one another.
2. Many travelers go to see things like the Tower of London, the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower, and so on. I travel to see friends, even-or especially-those I’ve never met.
In the late 1980s, I edited a series of guidebooks to different countries.3.Instead, each book contained about a thousand biographies of people who would be willing t0 welcome travelers in their cities. Hundreds of friendships evolved from these encounters, including including marriages and babies.
The same can be said for my salon. At a recent dinner a six-year-old girl from Bosnia spent the entire evening glued to an eight-year-old boy from Estonia. Their parents were surprised, and pleased, by this immediate friendship.
4.Most of them speak English, at least as a second language. Recently a dinner featured a typical mix: a beautiful painter from Norway, a truck driver from Arizona, a newspaper editor from Sydney and students from all over.
It is unnecessary to understand others; one must, at the very least, simply tolerate others.
5.No one can ever really understand anyone else, but you can love them or at least accept them.
I am a world citizen. All human history is mine. My roots cover the earth. We should know each other. Okay, now come and dine.
A. I believe in introducing people to people.
B. People are the most important thing in my life.
C. There were no sights to see, no shops or museums to visit.
D. Tolerance can lead to respect and, finally, to love.
E. After all, our lives are all connected.
F. Every Sunday a different friend prepares a feast.
G. There is always a collection of people throughout the world.

Last week my parents and I took a two-day trip to Emei Mountain in Sichuan. Like everyone knows, it's famous mountain with all kinds of plants and animals. The weather was fine. It was about noon we arrived at the foot of the mountain. The three of them were very excited. As we climbed the mountain, we fed monkeys, visiting temples and told stories. On the way up I was busy take pictures since the scenery was so beautiful. The time passes quickly.Evening came. We spent the night in a hotel at the top of the mountain. The food was expensive and the service was good. I was so tiring that I fell asleep at the moment my head touched the pillow.
