I remember my math teacher Mr. Young very well. He suggests Ways to Burn More Calories.
Run through water
Running in water is one of the toughest activities you can perform because the wet stuff is about 12 to 15 times as resistant (具有阻力的) as air. Try your hardest to run and you can burn about 17 calories per minute.
Start fast
Don’t be fooled — slow and steady won’t win the race. A recent study found that after a short warm-up, cyclists who rode hard during the first half of their workouts and then slowed for the second half burned about 10 percent more calories than those who started slow and finished fast.
Take to the sand
Here is some easy-to-remember advice on burning calories: the softer the surface, the more you burn. By walking or running on the beach, you can use up 20 to 50 percent more calories than you do going at the same pace on a hard trail.
Shut up and dance
Here’s the perfect excuse to sign up for that hip-hop dance class you’ve been eager to try. Surprising your body with new activities — dance, a new sport, you name it — forces it to work harder because it’s doing unfamiliar movements and using muscle groups in different ways.
Use your arms
Getting both your upper and lower body involved can provide a big calorie-burning advantage. So if you’re short of time or want to get everything you can out of your usual 45-minute workout, try total-body activities, like rowing. You can swing your arms as hard as you can while you walk.
1. How can water help you burn more calories?
A. By pushing your body. B. By wetting your clothes and shoes.
C. By forcing you to run faster. D. By forcing your body to work harder.
2 What does “it” in Part 4 refer to?
A. dance B. movement C. body D. muscle
3. Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A. One can burn more calories when walking on the sand than on land.
B. One can burn more calories when walking on stones than on earth.
C. One can burn more calories when running in water than on the sand.
D. One can burn more calories when exercising using the upper body than using the lower body.

Runners need to move 15 per cent faster on a treadmill(跑步机) to burn the same number of calories as jogging outdoors, research reveals.
Researchers from Milan University analyzed the difference between running outdoors and on a treadmill in 15 physically fit males with an average age of 21. The participants completed a sprint(短距离快速跑) for 30 seconds followed by 30 seconds of recovery for a total of 15 minutes both outdoors and on a treadmill. Oxygen use and exercise intensity were measured after both types of running.
The findings were published in the journal of Applied Physiology, Nutrition and Metabolism. Results revealed that when on a treadmill, runners use significantly lower amounts of oxygen, suggesting less effort is required. Therefore runners must move 15 percent faster on a treadmill to burn the same amount of calories as exercising outdoors, the study stated. The study authors wrote, "A 15 per cent increase in running speed during a period of stopping and starting often in high intensity treadmill training session is the best possible solution to reaching the same physiological responses as an outdoor training session.
Although the study did not speculate why treadmill running appears to be needing less effort and energy, previous research suggests the moving belt of a treadmill moves joggers forward, causing them to move faster. Exercising indoors also means gym-goers do not have to fight with steep hills or wind resistance.
Michael Silverman, director of rehabilitation and wellness(康复科) at Northern Westchester Hospital in New York, said, “Outdoors, you are changing surfaces constantly, fighting the wind, and making quick and sudden starts and stops, which will lead to increased caloric burn.” Shake magazine reported. "And while we don't recommend running in extreme temperatures, it is worth noting that your body burns extra calories to regulate your body temperature," he says.
1.Where can you find the specific findings of the study?
A.In Paragraph 2 B.In Paragraph 3 C.In Paragraph 4 D.In Paragraph 5
2.What can we know about the study?
A.Its participants were all 21 years old .
B.Michael is one of the researchers.
C.It revealed why treadmill running consumes less calories .
D.It took oxygen use and exercise intensity into consideration .
3.Why does running on a treadmill seem easier according to the study ?
A.The runners need less energy.
B.The runners can usually get enough oxygen .
C.The moving belt pushes joggers forward .
D.The intensity of running on the treadmill is more stable .
4.What does the underlined word “speculate” mean ?
A.conclude B.research C.oppose D.doubt

Tips for Cycle Trips
Cycling has many advantages as a form of travel, as it is the fastest way to travel by human Power, and slow enough to allow the type of local involvement that is impossible with powered travel.Cycle travel is a cheap form of transportation.
Distance
On level terrain(地形),without a headwind, a cyclist of average fitness on a touring bike can comfortably cover 60-120km a day.Distances of up to 250km a day are possible, but anything much beyond 120km will require considerable physical tension and not allow many stops to enjoy the places you visit. For many,80-100km a day will be the most suitable distance to aim for, as it
will give a sense of achievement and also leave plenty of time for meals and activities.
Geography
The gradient(坡度)of the trip will reduce your range.A basic rule is that for every 100 metres of altitude you climb, you should add an extra 15 minutes to your journey time.In hilly or mountainous areas, the easiest routes for cycling are downstream along major rivers, as overall they will be downhill.A long, roundabout route along a river will usually be easier than a short, direct route over a hill or mountain pass. However, it is worth bearing in mind that the most scenic routes often come from hilly terrain.
Eat
Food choice depends largely on where you are, so see the respective sections for more information about foods. As you will be working hard, it's important to get enough energy in your food. On long trips away from major towns-there may be little quality food available, so be prepared to live on candy bars, prepared meat products and the like if the need arises.
Sleep
While you can take a tent with you, many hotels and especially campsites can accommodate cyclists. However, there are also some hotels that may be less used to accommodating cyclists. If you are exploring an unfamiliar word, asking about the accommodation spares you the search for a new place to stay after a long exhausting day of travel.
1.Which of the following distance does the author suggest to ordinary cyclists a day?
A.50km. B.90km. C.130km. D.250km.

While there are a few ways to make use of your old smartphone, one of the better ways is to convert into a dash cam (行车记录仪) that you can use on your bicycle. With the camera, you can record your rides, which is especially helpful if you are involved in a crash with another vehicle.
To use your smartphone as a dash cam on your bike, you will need to make sure it is properly secured to your bike. To do this correctly, you must take two strips of heavy-duty Velcro (a kind of cloth used as fastening) along with two pipe Clamps (管夹) and a flat corner brace (角撑) to properly attach it. You will start by attaching the comer brace to your smartphone.
Next, attach a Velcro strip to your phoned back. You will put the second strip on the end of the brace comer and cut any extra Velcro off and away from the brace. By using heavy-duty Velcro, you shouldn’t have to worry about the camera brace must be attached to the bicycle directly.
Take two pipe clamps so you can attach the part of the corner brace so the phone can be held up and used. The pipe clamps must be positioned near the center of the handlebar, which will enable you to get a better picture when videotaping.
To run a dash cam app on your old phone, you will just need to download a dash cam app onto the old phone. You will then just start the app at any time you head out on the road. There is always the chance of flaws, but you will be giving yourself a way to protect yourself in a friendly, eco-friendly manner that is much less expensive than purchasing a dash cam.
1.What is the purpose of building a dash cam on your bike?
A. To make full use of an old smartphone.
B. To record the scenery while travelling.
C. To reduce an unexpected crash on the road.
D. To avoid unnecessary arguments in an accident.
2.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. The bike. B. The pipe clamp.
C. The smartphone. D. The flat comer brace.
3.What can we learn about a Velcro strip?
A. It will fix the camera firmly.
B. It is better to keep it as long as possible.
C. It is important for the flat comer brace.
D. It is best put in the center of the smartphone.
4.What can be inferred about the DIY dash cam from the last paragraph?
A. It is a perfect alternative to a purchased one.

D. It makes its owner friendly to other people.

I have had so many fantastic holidays, but my favorite memory is that of a few summer weeks spent in Italy when I was about 13. My mom had to go to a clinic there for treatment, and we all went together as a family and took the opportunity to have a beautiful vacation as well. It was my first time to be abroad and it was a vacation that broadened my perspectives, taught me a lot, and helped shape a bit of who I am today.
Although we did visit many famous places in northern Italy, we stayed mostly in a little town where some friends of my parents lived. Nothing helped me understand Italian culture better than my stay in this magical town that many haven’t even heard of.
Thanks to the holiday spent in Italy, I, quite a shallow girl, also discovered my passion for music, which stayed alive in me to this day and will probably stay forever. My parents’ friends had a son, Ricardo, who was a pianist. Dad had repeatedly but uselessly tried to make me study an instrument and stick to it. However, when I heard Ricardo play, I instantly lost my heart to music and felt a great desire to learn it. Ricardo taught me the first song I ever played on the piano, a silly, playful little time tune that I still know by heart.
We took a short trip to the Italian Alps at some points. I had never seen such majestic beauty before! The snow-capped peaks, the rocks, the fresh, harsh air - what an experience! And what I remember impressed me the most was the fact that, although this was a popular touristic area, the region was incredibly clean, still “natural”, with places that seemed to never have been touched by humans. Then, the shallow teen learned what a real treasure nature is and how important it is to protect it.
1.What was the main reason for the author and her family to go to Italy?
A.To cure her mother of her illness.
B.To experience a wonderful vocation.
C.To broaden and shape the author’s view.
D.To keep her mother company.
2.What was the main factor contributing to the author’s enthusiasm for music?
A.Her father’s guidance. B.Ricardo’s performance.
C.Her friendship with Ricardo. D.The first song she played on the piano.
3.What did the author learn after the trip to Alps?
A.Persistence in her passion for music.
B.Enjoyment of the beauty of nature.
C.Getting rid of her shallowness.
D.Valuing and preserving the environment.
4.What would be the best title of the text?
A.My Favorite Holiday Memory.
B.A Trip Shaping My Personality.
C.Lessons from a Trip to Italy.
D.My Love for Music and Nature.
