A family watching a dolphin from their boat were shocked when it dropped them off a cod (鳕鱼) supper for dinner.
The group were enjoying watching the mammal playing in the water when it suddenly dived down and caught the cod before placing it near to Lucy Watkins, 14.
The dolphin then appeared and began pulling the fish towards the stunned teenager. Lucy and her grandparents wondered whether they should pick up the fish in case the dolphin wanted it for tea.
But the dolphin then appeared seconds later with his own fish, this time a seabass (石斑鱼), and began eating. The family gratefully accepted the cod, which weighed about 10 pounds, before taking it home to cook for their dinner.
Lucy said, “He definitely wanted me to have his fish. He first dropped it 20 feet away but then pushed it to within 5 feet of my boat. Everyone was watching on the beach and we caused quite a stir (激动) when we came back with the cod.”
Grandmother Nina added, “It was as if he was saying to Lucy ‘Don’t worry, now I’ve got a fish to play with and so have you. This is mine for my tea; you have that one for yours.’ ”
“He was just so playful and content to be around us. Lucy was swinging her fingers in the water and he seemed to be attracted by that.”
“If I hadn’t seen it myself, I’d never have believed it. My theory is that he was lonely and wanted human company. He was with us for about two hours.”
“It seemed rude to refuse him so we took the fish and had cod and chips for supper. It was very large. I’ve still got half in the freezer.”
A spokesman from Whale and Dolphin Conservation said, “This is a very interesting account. There are many examples worldwide of dolphins interacting with humans. We would just make our usual appeal for people to generally keep their distance.”
1.What does the underlined word “stunned” probably mean?
A.Astonished. B.Upset.
C.Disappointed. D.Worried.
2.Why didn’t the family accept the cod at once?
A.Because Lucy’s grandparents didn’t like cods.
B.Because they were not sure whether it was a gift for them.
C.Because they didn’t know how clever the dolphin was.
D.Because they wanted to change for another one.
3.According to the text, we can infer that __________.
A.Lucy was afraid when she first saw the dolphin
B.Grandmother didn’t believe what the dolphin had done
C.the fish was delicious so they kept a half in the freezer
D.dolphins should be given their own living space

Last Friday, a couple decided that instead of hosting their friends and family for a traditional feast reception, they would feed the victims from an earthquake-stricken area. Michael and Linda stood behind large food trucks distributing meals to 4,000 homeless people for their wedding reception on the border town of Kilis. The idea came from the bridegroom’s father, Ted, who volunteers for a Turkish relief organization. For the past few years, the organization has distributed daily meals to thousands of people who’ve suffered from natural disasters. He approached a representative of the organization and suggested that the family cover part of the costs of feeding them for the day.
Then he told his son, who was surprised by the suggestion, but soon won over. When he told that to the bride, she was really shocked but finally accepted because in southeastern Turkey there is a real culture of sharing with people in need. They love to share their food, their table and everything they have. And afterwards she was quite amazed about it. So, they arrived at the distribution center on Thursday to spend the day serving food and taking photographs with their grateful recipients (接受者).
On that evening, the newly married couple were still pleased with their decision to quit a personal celebration for one with a greater good. “It’s like sharing a dinner with your friends and family who have this kind of thing on a daily basis or sharing something with people who don't even have the most basic things,” Michael said. “Hopefully, this will also give the start for other wedding dinners to be held here with our brothers and sisters in need.”

A. They took photos with the grateful victims.
B. They afforded the entire cost of the day for feeding victims.
C. They shared their happiness with the homeless in Kilis.
D. They treated their friends and relatives to a big dinner.
2.Why did so many people crowd in Kilis?
A. To help distribute free daily meals.
B. To escape the damaging earthquake.
C. To support the organization.
D. To attend Michael and Linda's wedding.
3.What does the underlined word “approached” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. consulted with B. moved towards
C. came across D. took in
4.We can know from the text that ________.
A. Michael doubted if more new couples would follow him
B. Ted was a representative of the organization
C. Linda adapted the suggestion immediately she heard it
D. Kilis is a place which lies in southeastern Turkey

Two brothers decided to dig a deep hole behind their house. As they were working, a couple of older boys stopped by to watch.
“What are you doing?” asked one of the visitors.
“We plan to dig a hole all the way through the earth!” one of the brothers said excitedly.
The older boys began to laugh, telling the younger ones that digging a hole all the way through the earth was impossible. After a long silence, one of the diggers picked up a jar full of spiders, worms and all kinds of other insects. He removed the lid and showed the wonderful contents to the scoffing(嘲笑)visitors. Then he said quietly and confidently, “Even if we don’t dig all the way through the earth, look what we found along the way!”
Their goal was far too ambitious(有野心的), but it did cause them to dig. And that is what a goal is for — to cause us to move in the direction we have chosen; in other words, to set us to digging!
But not every goal will be fully achieved. Not every job will end successfully. Not every relationship will endure(长久持续). Not every dream will be realized. But when you fall short of your aim, perhaps you can say, “Yes, but look at what I found along the way! Look at the wonderful things which have come into my life because I tried to do something!”
It is in the digging that life is lived. And I believe it is joy in the journey, in the end, that truly matters.

A. The two brothers only dug out a lot of insects
B. The two brothers lacked knowledge of the earth.

2.What does the underlined part “when you fall short of your aim” probably mean?
A. When you are shorter than you expected
B. When you have less than the amount than you wanted
C. When you fail to obtain(得到)what you expected
D. When you miss the target you are aiming at
3.The passage is written to _____.
A. tell readers a story
B. teach readers how to set a goal
C. praise the two brothers

A couple of years ago I took the family on a winter vacation to New York City to experience the holiday atmospheres. The longest lines that week weren’t in the Empire State Building, at the Statue of Liberty Ferry or any of the Big Apple’s other landmarks (地标) , but at Fifth Avenue and 58th Street, where people crowded into FAO Schwarz.
It was not until I got inside that it became clear how only one toy store could provide everything else that Manhattan offers between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Far more than a shopping experience, the hour we spent wandering along the aisles(通道) at FAO Schwarz was more like visiting a museum of everything that children care for very much. And for me — and all of the other bright-eyed grownups — it was a trip down my memory lane to the toys we knew as kinds.
America’s most unique toy stores are found from coast to coast, in big cities and also in small towns. Let’s have a look at some others.
The Dinosaur Farm in South Pasadena, Calif.: Former rock musician Dave Plenn opened the shop in 1994, a year after “Jurassic Park” brought the creatures back into the spotlight again. But he says his wife ---who was then working for the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles— rather than the big movie proved the inspiration for the dinosaur store.
Mild Zone: A more traditional specialty store, which sells model cars like Matchbox, Hot Wheels and Johnny Lightning. “It’s such an addicting (上瘾的) hobby,” says Burke, who admits that he originally created the store as a means to feed his own toy car collection. “Once you buy your first, you can never stop.” The store has around 30,000 cars. Mile Zone’s customers are from kinds with a wish for speedy toys to grown-ups who view the model cars as time travel back to their youth.
59. The author wrote the first paragraph mainly to show _________.
A. the poor traffic condition in New York B. the nice holiday atmosphere in New York
C. the popularity of toy stores in New York D. the charming landmarks in New York
60. Walking into FAO Schwarz gave the author a chance to ___________.
A. recall his life of childhood B. visit a most special museum
C. study the history of Manhattan D. learn the way of producing toys
61. Dave Plenn was inspired to open the Dinosaur Farm by ________.
A. his wife B. “Jurassic Park” C. his research on nature D .rock music
62. We can infer from the passage that ______.
A. dinosaur toy stores are more popular than traditional ones
B. some unique toys have been displayed in local museums
C. some popular toy stores have become new landmarks
D. customers of toy stores are more than children

A boy was born to a couple after eleven years of marriage. They were a loving couple and loved the boy very much. When the boy was around two years old, one morning the husband saw a medicine bottle open. He was late for work so he asked the wife to cap the bottle and keep it in the cupboard. The mother, preoccupied in the kitchen, totally forgot the matter.
The boy saw the bottle and playfully went to the bottle and, fascinated with its color, drank it all. It happened to be a poisonous(有毒的)medicine meant for adults in small dosages(剂量). When the child fell down, the mother hurried him to the hospital, where he died. The mother was shocked. She was terrified how to face her husband.
When the father came to the hospital and saw the dead child, he looked at his wife and uttered just four words. The husband just said ‘I am with you, Darling’. The husband's totally unexpected reaction is active behavior. The child is dead. He can never be brought back to life. There is no point in finding fault with the mother. Besides, if he had taken time to keep the bottle away, this would not have happened. No point in attaching blame. She had also lost her only child. What she needed at that moment was comfort and sympathy from the husband. That is what he gave her.
If everyone can look at life with this kind of viewpoint, there would be much fewer problems in the world. Take off all your envies, unforgiveness, selfishness, and fears and you will find things are actually not as difficult as you think. Sometimes we spend time asking who is responsible or whom to blame, whether in a relationship, in a job or with the people we know. By this way we miss out some warmth in human relationship.
1.The uncapped medical bottle was not put back into the cupboard because ________.
A.the husband was careless B.the wife ignored the matter
C.the husband was busy D.the wife wasn’t informed of the matter
2.What do we know about the bottle? ________.
A.It contained poison only for adults B.It was kept in the kitchen
C.It was broken by the child D.It appeared like a nice drink
3.The husband’s attitude towards his wife can be described as ________.
A.optimistic B.confident C.considerate D.generous
4.What did the writer intend to tell us about life? ________.
A.Think of nothing and life will be easy
B.It is always useless finding who is responsible
C.Let go the negative side and we can enjoy life.
D.Life should give way to responsibility
