“Funny” , a made-in-China emoji, seems to have recently moved beyond china. Now, it is more than an emoji, but a cultural expansion.

One commonly seen online comment from Chinese netizens is, “Every time other people send me the wmoji, I feel very uncomfortable and consider myself as a fool.”

A group of schools in Minnesota recently made a big change. They took some famous books off their reading list. One book was Mark Twain’s “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.” The other was Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird.” The schools in Minnesota decided that some words in the books were racist and can be hurtful to students.
This is a step in the right direction. But the harmful words in the stories are just the beginning. There are other reasons why these books should no longer be in classrooms.
Many people think the book, “To Kill a Mockingbird”, for example, one of the best books of all time. That is not true. In the book, there is a white lawyer named Atticus Finch. He defends Tom Robinson, a black man, in court. Tom exists only to be saved by Atticus. He does not make decisions for himself. He does not have a full life. He is in the story only to teach the white community about racism. The character is not complete and the white savior (救世主) idea shows poor writing skills.
Students do not learn as much from flat characters like Tom. They should read more authors of color. They should read stories where people of color are important. There are books about people of color that show joy and success. These books give students a fuller understanding of racism. Students of color must be able to see their real lives reflected in books so that they can change to become more accepting of others.
1.What caused the change in some schools’ reading list according to paragraph 1?
A.Efforts to lessen students study burden.
B.Intention to focus students’ attention on certain books.
C.Dissatisfaction with some writers’ choice of words.
D.Disrespect for some writers like Mark Twain.
2.According to the passage, “To Kill a Mockingbird” ________.
A.is the best book of all time
B.depicts all characters in detail
C.shows preference for the white
D.advocates harmony between races
3.What do we know about books about people of color?
A.They may disappoint their readers.
B.They fail to show joy and success.
C.They get in the way of readers’ understanding of racism.
D.They encourage readers’ acceptance of others.
4.What’s the best title of this passage?
A.Classroom reading lists change.
B.Two famous books lose appeal.
C.Different races conflict.
D.Words in books hurt.

Four students at the University of Hefei, in eastern China, recently proved that you don’t have to spend a small fortune on a designer dress to look attractive. You can make it yourself, for free, using only plant leaves. Photos of the leaf dress have been posted on social media for about a week, and people still can't stop gushing (交口称赞) over them.
The team behind the unique dress ---two girls and two boys--- got the idea for it over six months ago, while trying to come up with an interesting project for the annual “Animal and Plant Specimen Contest” at the University of Hefei. During that time, the girls couldn't stop talking about how beautiful the dress worn by actress Zhang ziyi at the Cannes Festival looked, and one of them suggested they try to recreate it out of plant leaves.
They asked for their teacher’s advice, and even though he considered it difficult to succeed, they went with it anyway. After researching the best way to use plant leaves as fabric (衣料), and coming up with a design for their dress, they started collecting the leaves. Some species were readily available on campus, but others were not. So they had to travel to Tianzhu Mountain to collect them.
To ensure that the collected leaves didn’t shrivel orrot (枯萎或腐烂), they removed the flesh by boiling them in alkali and sodium carbonate solution (碱和碳酸钠溶液) for about two hours. They struggled to get the proportions of alkali and sodium carbonate and the boiling time just right, to ensure that the flesh could be easily removed without damaging the skeleton of the leaf. Through trial and error, and with their teacher’s guidance they were able to come up with a perfect formula (配方).
They could only work on their special dress after class and on weekends, so it took them nearly four months to complete. That’s a pretty long time, but it all paid off when one of the girls got to finally put on the leaf dress and show it off to everyone.

A. persuaded their teacher to join them in collecting leaves
B. gave up the opportunity of attending the colleges annual contest
C. spent much of their school time in researching
D. collected leaves both on campus and on mountains
4.What can be inferred from the fourth paragraph?
A. It was hard for the four students to get the perfect formula.
