Spring is coming, and it is time for those about to graduate to look for jobs. Competition is tough, so job seekers must carefully consider their personal choices. Whatever we are wearing, our family and friends may accept us, but the workplace may not.
A high school newspaper editor said it is unfair for companies to discourage visible tattoos (纹身)nose rings, or certain dress styles. It is true you can’t judge a book by its cover, yet people do “cover” themselves in order to convey certain messages. What we wear, including tattoos and nose rings, is an expression of who we are. Just as people convey messages about themselves with their appearances, so do companies. Dress standards exist in the business world for a number of reasons, but the main concern is often about what customers accept.
Others may say how to dress is a matter of personal freedom, but for businesses it is more about whether to make or lose money. Most employers do care about the personal appearances of their employees ,because those people represent the companies to their customers.
As a hiring manager I am paid to choose the people who would make the best impression on our customers. There are plenty of well-qualified candidates, so it is not wrong to reject someone who might disappoint my customers. Even though I am open-minded, I can’t expect all our customers are.
There is nobody to blame but yourself if your set of choices does not match that of your preferred employer. No company should have to change to satisfy a candidate simply because he or she is unwilling to respect its standards, as long as its standards are legal.
1.Which of the following is the newspaper editor’ opinion according to Paragraph 2?
A. People’s appearances carry messages about themselves.
B. Customers’ choices influence dress standards in companies.
C. Candidates with tattoos or nose rings should be fairly treated.
D. Strange dress styles should not be encouraged in the workplace.
2.What can be inferred from the text?
A. Candidates have to wear what companies prefer for an interview.
B. What to wear is not a matter of personal choice for companies.
C. Companies sometimes have to change to respect their candidates.
D. Hiring managers make the best impression on their candidates.
3.Which of the following would be the best title for the text?
A. Employees Matter B. Personal Choices Matter

It’s a great sunny day, so it’s time to get out and enjoy the weather. Many of us would like to, but we have projects due, tasks that need to be done, people that we need to see and money that needs to be made.
What if your company gave you that time off as compensation for the great effort that you gave to the team to finish a project on time? See, when it comes to teamwork, the main focus is for the team to work together. In a ‘‘winning” team there is an equal balance of people who have unique strengths and weaknesses.
Take the example of the Chicago Bulls(芝加哥公牛队) of the 1990s. Michael Jordan was the greatest basketball player to play the game, but did they win a championship every year when Michael had played? No. It took a (D-type) Michael Jordan to lead the team and control the outcome. It took a(n) (I-type) wild and energetic Dennis Rodman to keep the team fun and interesting. It took (S-types) Scottie Pippin, Bill Cartwright, and John Paxson to support the team. And it took the (C-type) analytical mind of Coach Phil Jackson to create a foundation for the players to play on. In the end they, the Chicago Bulls, were able to win six championships within eight years.
What is your team made up of? All Jordans? All Jacksons? All Rodmans? Or all Pippins, Cartwrights and Paxsons? It is you who can choose who’s on your team. Try finding the right people for the right job, and you will have a “winning” team every time!
1.The underlined word “compensation” in the second paragraph means “ ”.
A. reward B. present C. money D. duty
2.According to this passage, a winning team is made up of .
A. a group of people who are tall and strong
B. a group of people who don’t have weaknesses
C. a group of people who don’t quarrel with each other

3. The Chicago Bulls were able to win six championships within eight years because .
A. Michael Jordan was a good team leader
B. Coach Phil Jackson created a foundation
C. all the players and the coach worked together
D. Dennis Rodman kept the team fun and interesting
4. What would be the best title for this passage?
A. Working Is Happy B. The Story of the Chicago Bulls
C. Good Choice D. Working Together for a Team

Getting away for a short time always seems like a great idea—until you have to pack. The rule is: pack light. Here are some tips to help you pack.
Organize Yourself
Make a list. Think of what you need from your head to your toes. When you’ve done this once, it’ll be easier next time.
Start Small
Consider buying small-size samples of shampoo, toothpaste, and other items at your local store. Make sure they are all sealed tightly.
In an emergency, you can purchase them at your destination. But remember that the time you spend buying things at your destination will reduce your visiting time.
The Clothing Dilemma
Choosing which clothes to bring is probably the hardest packing decision to make. Think once again from head to toe — hat, shirts, jeans, sneakers, etc. Once you’ve picked out what you want to bring, think carefully. Do you really need that extra pair of jeans? If so, fine. Don’t try to fool yourself. You are the one who will be left holding the bag.
Weather is an important factor in your packing. If it’s cold, you could wear a jacket, a sweater, a regular shirt, and a T-shirt. Layering up will keep you warm and it will leave more room in your bag. Roll up your casual clothes instead of folding and laying them flat. This leaves more room to pack other things, and keeps your clothes fairly wrinkle-free.
Remember how much easier it will be to carry your bag!

It is of great importance for students to be able to get a feel for the rhythm and sounds of a poem---more so than for most pieces of prose (散文). This isn’t always easy in a second language, and so listening to their teacher read the poem, or to a professional recording, perhaps by the poet or by an actor, is, I feel, necessary.
As with any listening activity, students will need some kind of preparation and task so that they can be actively engaged. They might be asked to check predictions that arose from a warm-up discussion, to compare their suggested rhyming couplets with the poet’s, or to identify stressed words and syllables.
You might also want to get your students to listen to recorded or live discussions about poems. This can, for example, take the form of a couple of teachers or a group of students giving their views on a poem, or even an interview with the poet.
I’m a big fan of jigsaw listening because of the natural information gap. If your school has the facilities, you might like to:
divide your students into two, or even three groups
give each group a different cassette or CD and tasks to work on
then they come back together to share what they have learned.
Remember that your own enthusiasm is a key factor in any activity relating to literature in the classroom.
Finally, don’t forget to encourage art for art’s sake. Listening for pleasure, to poetry (or to anything else, for that matter), is to be fostered at every opportunity, because of the obvious benefits which include motivation, vocabulary acquisition and learner independence. Many good song lyrics (歌词) could be termed poetry and treated accordingly in the classroom, copyright rules permitting.

b. They’d better have a warm-up discussion.
c. They will share their own works with their classmates
d. They should know the stressed words.
e. They should make clear the stressed syllables.
f. They should first go to an actor.
A. abcf B. abde C. cdef D. bcdf
3.Who do you think is this passage written for?
A. The students. B. The poets.

A. How to use poems to develop the students’ skills.
B. Listening to poem is more difficult than reading prose.
