“Love your neighbor as yourself" is a saying familiar to most of us. It means that you must have the ability to love and accept yourself in order to form and keep satisfying relationship with others. Self-esteem means accepting yourself for who you really are, and believing that you are indeed a worthwhile person who is deserving of love and respect from others.
Self-esteem is our sense of how good we feel about ourselves. It is based on our judgment of ourselves, not on other people's assessment, but simply on our own. Our self-esteem is not dependent on our talent. Some very ordinary people feel very good about themselves, while other extraordinarily high achievers hold low opinions of themselves.
Self-esteem is the primary key to long-term stress management. Why? The first three sources of stress are: predictable life event, unexpected changes and build-up of daily stresses. These are much easier to handle when we believe in ourselves. A positive, healthy self-esteem gives us the “hardiness” (强健) to deal with the difficulties of life, and to see them as challenges to be met, rather than threats to be feared.
The fourth category of stress is entirely the result of a low self-esteem. It is the category of stress that is most common and tiring over the long run. This kind of stress cannot be overcome, or even changed, until the self-esteem problems that cause it are corrected.
Learning to love yourself for who you are is the key to overcoming stress. Self-esteem comes from the self, and cannot be promoted by others. A person who feels that his self-esteem comes from the approval of those around him or her is bound to self-destruct (自毁). One cannot keep the level of “performance” required to please everyone else, especially if that performance disagrees with who you are and is simply a facade that makes you popular with the world. When the applause is gone, there is nothing left.
Only those who can feel the strength of knowing who they are and those who can feel good about that will survive the stresses of life. Self-esteem is the basis of contentment and positive living.
1.What is the key to overcoming stress according to the passage?
A. Removing yourself from stressful situation.
B. Learning to love yourself for who you are.
C. Facing the stress and dealing with it.
D. Getting help from friends.
2.What does the underlined word "facade" (in Para 5) mean?
A. A false appearance. B. A big worry.
C. A wrong action. D. A strange feeling.
3.The passage is written to ______.
A. tell people how to overcome stress
B. help people form good relationship with others
C. show the importance of feeling good about yourself
D. provide the different methods to get a clear view of yourself

I recently spent two years in the Arctic filming the series Blue Planet. I love being in an environment that has changed for 20,000 years. Of course, it’s freezing, but it must be a healthy place because you never catch colds.
When I’m filming, I like to really feel how lonely the environment is. Filming underwater involves cutting through thick ice and diving in tied to a line. The person at the other end has to be ready to pull you out fast if necessary.
Originally I was a research diver for the British Antarctic Survey project, but for me science lacked excitement. I’d always enjoyed photography, and whenever camera teams passed through, they encouraged me to watch and learn. I was then able to move into filming in 1985 and have concentrated on Arctic and Antarctic wildlife ever since.
I prefer face to face with the animals I’m filming. I haven’t got into the water with killer whales yet, but I plan to. Of course, it’s dangerous if you choose the wrong moment. They are big animals and can move fast, so I’d be stupid to film them searching for food.
I’ve never had problems with polar bears, although once I was frightened when one tried to get into my tent. Polar bears are bold, clever and dangerous. But I made this one see I wasn’t about to attack it—I’m sure it realized I wouldn’t hurt it.
When I came back home from my trips, I work in the mornings and spend the afternoons swimming to keep fit. Now I’m fifty, filming is harder. The challenge for me is to continue to deliver high-quality work.

A. He wasted the years he spent as a scientist.
B. It was a good chance to learn about filming.

D. It taught him how to become a skilled diver.
3.When talking about killer whales, the writer says that ______.
A. he will only film them from a safe distance
B. he has always been careful when diving with them
C. he tries to avoid any danger by facing them
D. he believes there are safe opportunities to film them

True love and kindness is needed in this world. It comes from appreciating the object, and rejoicing in the object, wanting the object to be happy and well, but holding it lightly, not tightly. And this goes for possessions too. You are in an extremely materialistic society in which the possession of more and bigger and better is held up as the total criteria(标准) for being happy.
What we own is not the problem; it’s our attitude towards our possessions. If we have something and we enjoy it, that’s fine. If we lose it, then that’s OK. But if we lose it and we are very attached to it in our heart, then that’s not fine. It doesn’t matter what the object is, because it’s not the object which is the problem. The problem is our own inner grasping mind that keeps us bound to the wheel, and keeps us suffering. If our mind was open and could just let thing flow naturally, there would be no pain. Do you understand? We need our everyday life to work on this, to really begin to see the greed of attachment in the mind and gradually begin to lessen and lessen it.
There is a famous story of a coconut, which is said to be used in India to catch monkeys. People take a coconut and make a little hole just big enough for a monkey to put its paw through. And inside the coconut, which is nailed to a tree, they have put something sweet. So the monkey comes along, sees the coconut, smells something nice inside, and he puts his hand in. he catches hold of the sweet inside, so now he has a fist. But the hole is too small for the fist to get out. When the hunters come back, the monkey is caught. But of course, all the monkey has to do is let go. Nobody’s holding the monkey except the monkey’s grasping greedy mind. Nobody is holding us on the wheel; we are clinging to it ourselves. There are no chains.
1.Which of the following is the best title of the passage?
A. Clinging Causes the Pain B. Don’t Learn from the Monkey
C. Giving Up is Holding D. Possessions are Pains
2.According to the first paragraph, which of the following statements is true?
A. The world now is lacking in true love.
B. Owning more means being happier in today’s society.
C. Today’s society is very realistic.
D. The society needs better criteria.
3.According to the passage, the monkey is caught because________.
A. the hunter is cleverer than the monkey
B. the monkey wants to eat the sweet
C. the hole is too small for the monkey’s fist
D. the monkey doesn’t know giving up
4.Why did the author tell the story of the monkey?
