Peer(同龄人)Pressure
Peer pressure is just part of the challenges in life. 66 If you need further guidance, this article might help you. It provides three effective tips to deal with it:
Be with friends who respect your beliefs
You can go out with people who accept and respect the things you believe in and those who you know you can share your interests with. It is all right to be choosy with friends because you just want what is best for them and you. 67 You are just exhibiting what you know is right and good for both sides. Your friends will understand you for that. They can drag you away from discrimination and you can be confident that they will not leave you for your stand in life.
68
When you are driven by so many peer pressures, you can always stay away from it. You can actually decide not to be one of them. When you have decided on it, learn to be firm with your decision. 69 They should know that you cannot be forced to do certain things because you are strong and firm with what you believe in.
Learn how to say no
Learning to say no is one big factor to deal with some pressures from all of your friends. When you are convinced to do something you know that can only destroy you or ruin you, learn to say no. 70 You cannot just say yes to anything. You have a functional mind and you know what is best for you. So learn to say no even if saying no means losing your friends.
A. Don’t blame others.
B. Have a firm decision.
C. You should know how to deal with it.
D. You can always deal with it positively.
E. Just be straightforward and say it without hesitation.
F. This does not mean you are being selfish or you are being self-centered.
G. This can make them believe that you cannot just be driven by any other thing.

Most people follow others blindly just under the effect of peer (同辈) pressure or because they feel it safe to follow a large number of people. In some rare cases it might be right to follow the crowd, but in most cases this can be a big mistake. Actually there are reasons why we shouldn’t follow the crowd blindly.
According to a study, people often follow the crowd when they aren’t sure about the direction they should take. This means a large number of people could be following others without understanding what’s right and what’s wrong! This makes more people follow and as a result most people move in a certain direction even if it isn’t right.
A man who wants to be successful always hopes for others’ guidance and he usually follows the same path of most people, but the question this man never asks himself is: Are all of those people successful? Of course not! If you want to follow a crowd, then follow a successful one. However, in real life you’ll only find one successful person among hundreds of people, and that’s why following the crowd makes no sense at all.
Most people act emotionally without thinking wisely. If you always follow others because they’re greater than you in number, then sooner or later you’ll discover that you’re taking emotional decisions you might regret later.
However, should we never follow the crowd? No. I’m not trying to say you should never follow the crowd, but instead I’m just asking you to think wisely before you take a decision. If you find others are right, there is no problem in following them, but if you have doubts about the direction they’re moving in, don’t follow them blindly.

It is reasonable to say that every teenager can be affected by peer pressure (从众心理) at some point. Every day, in any high school, peer pressure has a major influence over the behavior of teenagers. It can be as subtle (微妙的) as being persuaded to be late for class or as extreme as a dangerous drug. Whether subtle or extreme, peer pressure can have damaging, sometimes life changing, and even serious results.
“Teens don’t often consider the long-term results that some behavior can cause,” said Terri Price, a researcher. “Peer pressure can be very difficult to handle for many teens because of their fears of not fitting in”. Peer pressure has always been part of teen life, but teens experience it differently than their former generations did in the past. Sources of peer pressure have increased because of the Internet and other electronic communications.
Recognizing peer pressure can be as simple as noticing that you have been asked to do something that you are not comfortable with. “Listen to your instinct (直觉) , which is a sign for whether something is right or wrong. If it feels wrong, then most likely it is. ”says Price.
Teens are in a time of life when they are still discovering who they are. Many teens are influenced by peer pressure because of their insecurities (不安全感). This can make them helpless especially when their self-control is weak or they lack healthy support, causing them to take risky behavior or turn to unhealthy support.
Dealing with peer pressure is a topic of concern for teens. People can say, “Just say no,” but the truth is that the statement is easier said than done.

4.According to the passage, we can know that dealing with peer pressure is________

Getting ripped off from time to time is just part of traveling---don’t let it ruin your day or your overall experience. But there are things you can do to avoid some of the most common rip-offs. Let me share my travel tips for how to avoid hidden fees, disappointed experiences and overpriced items.
Baggage Fees
Depending upon the airline, you can pay $15 to $75 for the first checked bag, and more for overweight bags. When possible, pack a bag lightly enough to a carry-on or fly airlines that still allow free checked bags(two bags for Southwest and one for JetBlue). Many airline programs allow members with a high status to have a free checked bag, so check your status.
Overpriced Hotel and Airport Food
To avoid the overpriced water sold at airports, bring an empty water bottle with you through security at the airport. Then, fill it up at a water fountain or ask a waiter at a coffee shop to fill it up for you. Pick up some snacks at a local corner store instead of hitting the hotel room mini bar, which can lead to expensive surprises on your final bill.
Tourist Trap Restaurants
If you’re visiting a restaurant or attraction that has online presence, Google it or search it on Yelp to see what the locals say about it and to find any available coupons(优惠券) that might get some extra savings. Often restaurants run deals on Yelp where if you “check in” at that restaurant and review it, you get a free dessert or 15% off the total bill, etc. By researching online, you’ll not only see whether there are any coupons or extra savings available, but people will tell you if the chef changed a month ago and the food is awful now.
1.To have a free checked bag, you shall not_______.
A. take a light carry-on B. have a high status
C. take overweight bags D. choose Southwest Airlines
2.If you want to drink free water at an airport, you can______.
A. take a bottle of water through security
B. go to a water fountain
C. go to a store at the airport
D. order a coffee at a coffee shop
3.The passage is probably written by______.
A. a travel agent
B. an economical person
C. an experienced traveler
D. a skilled net-worker

In any theatrical performance the actors are just a small part of the people needed.
Once the play has been decided by the director, the actors must be chosen. This is done by casting, a very skillful and important occupation. The actors will create a success or a failure out of a production. They have to be right for the part they will play, and also work well with the director.
Production planning is the next important step. The style of the play is confirmed(确定) and then a small model of the different rooms on stage (sets) is created. It will be important that the sets can be taken down and rebuilt easily as the production may travel to different theatres.
Detailed drawings of each set are produced and the Workshop, Paint shop and Props Department go to work. The Props Department is responsible for some of the stage furniture plus the extra items which the actor will need while they are on stage.
The Costume Designer decides how all the actors will be dressed. This includes shoes, hats, costumes, jewels. Costume makers have fittings with the actors to get the costume sizes right for the whole cast. Wigs (假发) and make-up are dealt with by another set of experts.
It is the Stage Planning team who schedule rehearsals(排练) and decisions made here will affect how the production is organized.
The Stage Department is responsible for making sure that everything at the theatre is in place and working properly. Before the play is performed, they will have a technical run of the performance in which the Lighting and Sound team work to create the right effects.
Few realize how many people are behind the scenes every time the curtain rises at the theatre!
1.What is the text mainly about?
A. The course of choosing actors. B. The work behind the stage.
C. The importance of a director's job. D. The course of a theatrical performance.
2.Why is it important for the sets to be taken down?
A. It will save much money.
B. The director wants to create the right effects.
C. The sets will often be used in other theatres.
D. It will make the stage convenient for the actors to use.
3.Which of the following shows the correct steps of a theatrical performance?
a. creating stage settings b. finishing the casting
c. deciding a play d. having rehearsals
A. c﹣a﹣b﹣d. B. b﹣a﹣c﹣d. C. b﹣a﹣d﹣c. D. c﹣b﹣a﹣d.
