It is good to see that today more people have realized the importance exercising and are playing sports regular. But the problem is that there are not enough sports facilities to meet the public growing demand. I love playing basketball and often play with my friends on weekends. Therefore, it is difficult to rent a basketball field and impossible to find a free one. It seems that all courts in the city were always full. Weather permitted, we can play in outdoors. But on rainy days or in winter we have to turn to indoor courts. There are not much in my city, and the charge is expensive. The government should build more public sports facilities, so easier accesses will encourage more people to participate in sports.

Australians have evidently realized the fact that water means life and we need to he more thoughtful in our use of this rather precious resource.Since the year 2000, Australians have managed to reduce their use of water by 14% . In the most populous city, Sydney, they've managed to use less water in 2007 than in 1974, even though the city grew by l. 2 million souls in this period.
Across the country nearly 20% of all households have water tanks. That would probably be due, in large part, to the various state governments offering generous rebates. In NSW, for example, where 24,000 households have taken up the offer, you can get $1,500 AUD back if you fix a 7,000 + litre tank and have it attached into your toilet and washing machine.
Creywater use has taken off too. The Australian Bureau of Statistics suggest that it's now the second most common source of water in Australia, with over half of the country's homes reusing water from their washing machines, showers and baths. The state of Victoria leads with 70% using greywater, and Queensland, coming close behind with 63%.
Up in the northern state of.Queensland, some of their dams have been below 20%. Sydney's main dam is only at 56% of its potential capacity.
The country's ongoing drought(干旱) has seen more than 95% of the length of the Murray- Darling Basin ( the two major river systems that supply the nation's 'food basket' ) regarded as ' degraded', Supply of water has become such an issue that hydro-electric power(水力发电) output has dropped 7% in a recent 9 year period for the states of NSW, Victoria and Tasmania. Not good for promoting our uptake understanding of renewable energy in these climate changing times. But at least the message is getting through about making every drop count.

Main people believe that the only way to make our communities safer is to build more prisons. But there's a way to better protect cities and towns by doing just the opposite.
In many countries throughout the world, prison populations have risen dramatically over the past decade. One of the main reasons for this is the large number of repeat offenders, that is people who break the law again are once freed from jail. Statistics show that about one in four prisoners freed every year return to jail within three years.
This is partly because ex-prisoners face huge difficulty finding employment. More than a third of them cannot find any job at all. Data show that having a job greatly reduces the chances that a person will commit a crime again or commit one in the first place. Released prisoners who do manage to find steady employment are 50 percent less likely to return to prison. Rather than harming a community, having a job helps ex-prisoners to change their ways and make a positive and productive contribution to their communities.
What's more, helping these men and women find jobs would also save taxpayers a lot of money. Few prisoners would save governments millions or possibly even billions of dollars annually: the costs of building and operating jails.
There are many things that the government can do to help ex-prisoners find work. More job training programs should be introduced to provide prisoners with work skills before they are freed. Companies and factories should also be given tax benefits if they employ ex-prisoners. Such programs have been shown to work in several countries.
Such policies of course assure that freed criminals actually want to work. But shouldn't they be given the chance? Our goal, after all, shouldn’t be to incarcerate as many prisoners as possible, but to build a society that doesn't need to put such a large percentage of its population in jail. We should take a step in that direction and help prisoners find self-respect and purpose through work.
1.What percentage of freed prisoners returns to prison within three years?
A. 65%. B. 50%.
C. 33%. D. 25%.
2.Which of the following best describes the content of the fifth paragraph?
A. Facts. B. Arguments.
C. Recommendations. D. Requirements.
3.What does the underlined word "incarcerate" in the last paragraph mean?
A. set free B. lock up
C. employ D. separate
4.Which of the following would the author agree with?
A. Tougher punishment will reduce crime.
B. Most prisoners do not deserve to be in prison.
C. Economic conditions are a major cause of crime.
D. Prison populations are likely to increase in the future.
