62-year-old Zhang Jianxing has been searching the ancient forests of the Shennongjia National Nature Reserve for over two decades.
Jianxing began living in the 3,200-square-kilometer mountain range in 1994, after becoming fascinated with the Yeren(also Chinese Wild Man), a 6-foot-tall humanoid creature covered in thick red-brown fur. References of the so-called Chinese Wild Man date back to the Zhou Dynasty in the works of classical Qu Yuan.
German Man Creates World‘s Heaviest Bicycle
For 10 months out of every year, for the last 22 years, Jianxing has been living deep in the Shennongjia National Nature Reserve, hoping to meet the Yeren. Dressed in military gear and armed with a camera, he constantly looks for clues of the creature, living off the land and sleeping in abandoned homes and empty caves. To him, the Yeren is more than just an old myth, it’s a branch of scince, one that he has been studying for a very long time.
Jianxing claims he has collected enough evidence of the Wild Man’s existence---over 100 hair samples and 3,000 photos of large footprints---adding that he even came close to seeing it for himself no less than 19 times. And he is not alone in his beliefs. The Wild Man Research Association----yes, there is such a thing---records show reports of Yeren encounters from over 400 locals.
But with no concrete evidence to prove the existence of the Wild Man, most scientists regard it as nothing more than a legend.
Jianxing also added that the local government in Hubei is relying on the Yeren to boost its tourism revenues. In 2012, the Shennongjia Nature Reserve signed an agreement with Beijing to promote holidays for Yeren hunters.
1.When does the earliest record of the Yeren date back to?
A. 2012 B. 1994
C. The Ming Dynasty D. The Zhou Dynasty
2.While hunting in the Shennongjia National Nature Reserve, Zhang Jianxing__________.
A. seldom cooks B. takes his camera
C. rests in the tree D. carries his raincoat
3.Why was an agreement signed in 2012?
A. To do research B. To protect wildlife
C. To develop tourism D. To kill animals
4.What can we know about Zhang Jianxing from the passage?
A. He has spent the last 22 years looking for big feet
B. He has contributed a lot to the discovery of Yeren
C. He has been fond of living in the ancient forests
D. He has made up his mind to protect the ancient forests

A British farmer has been searching for a group of fighter planes for 15 years. The planes were lost in Burma during World War II. David Cundall, 62, traveled to Burma a dozen times. He spent about US $207,000 in the hope of finding a British Spitfire(喷火式战斗机)buried in the Southeast Asian country. Finally, his hard work paid off.
Cundall started his search after his friend heard from a group of U.S. war veterans(老兵)that they had buried Spitfires in the region. “We’ve done some pretty silly things in our time, but the silliest was burying Spitfires,” the veterans said.
Cundall began placing ads in magazines to try to find soldiers who might have been involved. After 15 years of searching, he finally managed to locate the missing airplanes. The planes had never been flown and were buried in their transport crates(条板箱). “We made a borehole(钻孔)and used a camera to look at the crates. They seemed to be in good condition.” Cundall told The Telegraph. The aircraft had arrived at a Royal Air Force base in Burma in August 1945. But, by that point in the war, the planes weren’t needed. “In 1945, Spitfires were ten a penny, and you could see them everywhere.” Said Cundall.
British Prime Minister, David Camerion, recently visited the country. As The Telegraph reports, Camerion’s help may mean that the Spitfires could soon be on their way back to the United Kingdom. Cundall hopes that with the help of investors, the planes can finally take to the skies.
“Spitfires are beautiful aeroplanes and should not be rotting away(腐烂)in a foreign land,” Cundall says. “They saved our neck in the Battle of Britain and they should be protected.”

A. A British Farmer’s Dream
B. Burma’s Buried Treasure
C. A Search for Buried Planes

B. The planes were not needed at that time during World War II.
C. It will be very difficult to take the planes back to the United Kingdom.
D. The planes were buried in Burma after they crashed there.
5.What can we infer from the last two paragraphs?
A. Cundall has asked Prime Minister David Cameron for help to bring Spitfires back.
B. The government of Burma will not allow Britain to bring the Spitfires back
C. The Spitfires buried in Burma are beginning to rot away.
D. Cundall likes Spitfires very much and he thinks they should be preserved.

Flying like a bird has been the dream of humans since ancient times. Last week a group of modern birdmen put their courage on their wings and challenged gravity in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.
“Yes, you can buy a ticket and fly to another city. But running with your own wings and feeling your feet ready to take off is totally different,” Dong Fang, said in an excited voice. He is one of 41 students from Hangzhou No. 14 Middle School to test their home-made aircrafts in the playground. Inspired by the International Bognor Birdman Competition in the UK, Ni Wangyue, a teacher in high school is holding a similar event. The Bognor Birdman competition started in 1971 in the England coastal city Bognor. People ran off the end of a pier (码头) with their own aircraft in an attempt to “fly” the farthest distance.
“From the very beginning , I didn’t expect my students to create a real plane or break any records. I told them the competition is more for seeing how far your imagination can stretch,” Said Ni. He was surprised to see his students create 10 different aircrafts with all kinds of material available in the past month. Many students said that they learnt much more in the process of creating their planes than in ordinary classes.
Jing Yuchen and his team named their plane “Weiming E”, which means an unknown goose. The 17-year-old boy deeply believes their goose of steel pipe and sailcloth will honour its name by successfully making it fly.
“Our work is much more imaginative than others. With several colourful balloons on its back and a pair of light plastic wings, it surely is the most eye-catching work, if not the best,” said Yu Liang, another student.
“Although most of those home-made aircrafts cannot really take the boys flying, the boys’ braveness and creativity in this project will encourage every one of them to fly high in the future,” Ni said.
1.The purpose of the competition is to ___________.
A. prepare to create more real planes.
B. let students break some records.
C. run off the end of a pier.
D. encourage braveness and creativity.
2.According to the passage, which of the following statements is NOT true?
A. There were 41 students taking part in the competition.
B. A similar kind of competition started in 1971.
C. The teacher didn’t expect his students could create 10 different aircrafts.
D. Most of those home-made aircrafts could take the boys flying.
3. By saying “you can buy a ticket and fly to another city”, the writer actually means ___________.
A. if you want to take part in the competition you have to buy a ticket.
B. people who take part in the competition have to fly to another city.
C. people can pay to get a chance to go to another place by air.
D. the students have to fly to another city in their home-made aircrafts.
4.Why did the teacher organize this activity?
A. He wanted to develop students’ imagination.
B. He wanted his students to have the feeling of flying.
C. He wanted his students to break records.
D. He wanted to increase his students’ grades.
