Rebecca, who is a 25-year-old woman, has a rare condition. She can remember all the events she has experienced in her life. The events are so vivid, as if they happened just moments ago. But her vivid memories often become a reality. Rebecca said, “When I relive memories, the emotions come back. So if it’s something that happened when I was younger, my emotions are about what I felt then. I also re-experience pain. For example, I remember falling over and hurting my left knee when I was three. When talking about it now, I’m getting pain in my left knee.”
However, there are times when Rebecca’s memories prove to be too overwhelming, and she has learnt relaxation and mindfulness(聚神) techniques to solve. “At school, it is a hindrance. I’m not very quick at processing things, so there is always so much going through my mind. At night, I have to sleep with the radio on and a soft light. If it’s too dark or quiet, my mind just recalls all these memories and I can’t sleep,” Rebecca said.
In addition, Rebecca has no control over whether the memories she recalls will be positive or negative – recalling painful experiences with such vividness that she has suffered from post-traumatic (创伤后的) stress disorder. Rebecca said, “Recently, I went back to my old school for my sister’s high school graduation. Being in that building again brought all those memories flooding back. I burst into tears and had to leave.”
Rebecca and her mother Mrs. Barnes got in touch with the University of California in 2011. It was there that Rebecca knew she had Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory (HSAM). It’s reported that Rebecca is one of just 80 people worldwide, who have HASM. “Finding out about HASM has been such a positive experience. Now, Rebecca has been more positive and able to do things independently, which has been excellent,” Mrs. Barnes said.
1.What’s wrong with Rebecca?
A. She hardly sleeps well at night.
B. She usually gets hurt easily by others.
C. She can’t distinguish between reality and dreams.
D. Her vivid memories lead her to experience sufferings.
2.What does the underlined word “hindrance” mean in Paragraph 2?
A. Priority B. Difficulty.
C. Advantage. D. Opportunity.
3.What can we learn from Paragraph 3?
A. Rebecca had a strong dislike of going to school.
B. Rebecca was moved to tears at her sister’s graduation.
C. Rebecca and her sister once studied in the same school.
D. Rebecca enjoyed a happy life during her high school years.
4.It can be inferred from the last paragraph that Rebecca_____.

I have been flying since I was three years old. I am now 27 and cannot ever remember being afraid of flying until I was around 20. Suddenly, it seemed to come from nowhere. I began to be afraid of flying.
Two weeks before I was to fly I would have nightmares every night, all of which were centered on a plane crash. This would obviously add to my anxieties. The turning point for me was when I had to go on a business trip to Germany. My boss and my husband were with me, but nobody was allowed to talk to me. I was quiet and on the verge of (濒于) tears right up until boarding. On the flight I was even worse. I was crying, shaking and my palm were sweaty. It sounds so ridiculous, but if you have a fear of flying you will understand my distress.
I got home and my fear was getting out of control. It was upsetting for my husband when we were going on holidays together. I would never be excited because I didn't want to fly as I was certain the plane would crash, or we would be hijacked, or there would be a bomb on board, etc.
I thought about paying for expensive hypnotism (催眠术) to see if that would help me but I also wanted to try and help myself first. That was when I found this book.
I read the book as soon as it arrived. It answered the questions I had. After that, when I had a flight coming up, I read a few chapters of the book every night for 2 weeks before the flight. I also took the book in my hand luggage so it was there to refer to if I felt fearful during a flight.
This book is AMAZING and a MUST-HAVE for any nervous flyer.

Stephen Hawking, the brilliant British theoretical physicist who published wildly popular books exploring the mysteries of the universe, has died, according to a family spokesman. He was 76.
Considered by many to be the world’s greatest living scientist, Hawking was also a cosmologist, astronomer, mathematician and author of numerous books including the landmark “A Brief History of Time,” which has sold more than 10 million copies.
With fellow physicist Roger Penrose, Hawking combined Einstein’s theory of relativity with quantum theory(量子理论) to suggest that space and time would begin with the Big Bang and end in black holes. He also discovered that black holes were not completely black but emit(释放) radiation and would likely eventually evaporate(蒸发) and disappear. “It will be difficult enough to avoid disasters on planet Earth in the next 100 years, let alone next thousand, or million. The human race shouldn’t have all its eggs in one basket or on one plant. Let’s hope we can avoid dropping the basket until we have spread the load.”
Hawking suffered from ALS (amyotrophic latcral sclerosis), a disease which is usually fatal within a few years. He was diagnosed in 1963, when he was 21, and doctors initially gave him only a few years to live. The disease left Hawking wheelchair-bound and paralyzed. He was able to move only a few fingers on one hand and was completely dependent on others or on technology for everything—bathing, dressing, eating, even speech. “I have been lucky that my condition has progressed more slowly than is often the case. But it shows that one need not lose hope.” Dramatically, he even guest-starred in the “Star Trek”, “The Simpsons” and the 2014 movie “The theory of Everything”.
Hawking leaves behind three children and three grandchildren. “We are deeply saddened that our beloved father passed away today,” Hawking’s children, Lucy, Robert and Tim, said in a statement. “He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years. His courage and persistence with his brilliance and humor inspired people across the world. “We will miss him forever.”
1.From the passage, we can learn that ________.
A. Hawking was diagnosed with the fatal disease since he was born.
B. Hawking was once the main character in the movie and TV series.
C. Hawking just published one book titled “A Brief History of Time”
D. Hawking had to rely on other people and technology to do everything in life.
2.Which of the following is NOT believed by Stephen Hawking?
A. The space and time would end in black holes.
B. Black holes are not exactly black in color.
C. The disasters can be avoided in the next thousand or million years.
D. Black holes can give off radiation and will disappear in the end.
3.What does the underlined sentence mean?
A. The humans should explore other planets to live.
B. The humans should stay together to fight the disasters.
C. The earth will be destroyed if humans continue to live here
D. No other planets can replace the earth as the living place.
4.What would be the best title of the passage?

I remember the first time that I was extremely happy, I was about 8 years old when for the first time, there was a computer in the classroom. I remember that my teacher allowed each student to take turns to play various educational games on the computer. One day, I found the source code for one of these games. Without knowing or being taught any programming language, I was able to figure out some of the BASIC code. I just gave myself a limitless number of lives in the game, so I could continue playing it forever. This was also my first introduction to algebra, and I didn’t even know it at the time. This was a decisive moment in my life. I was quite excited because of what I was learning and what I was able to do. As a result, I was enthusiastic for the rest of my life about self-learning and computers, and I was quite happy doing them too.
I’ve noticed that people who are truly content with life are enthusiastic about what they do. This enthusiasm, along with good health, is the key to being happy. It also leads to self-confidence and content in life too. It may also lead to success, wealth and achievements.
Success , wealth or achievements can also bring some people happiness , yet I know plenty of rich people who are unhappy . I know many people with successful businesses that are not happy with what they are doing .I know people who continuously buy themselves new toys , such as cars , computers ,and televisions ,yet never seem content for too long .Please remember , happiness is the journey of life , not the destination.
1.What can we know from Paragraph 1?
A. The author has a great talent for algebra.
B. Creative thinking is necessary for every child.

D. The author’s experience in his childhood changed his life.
2.The author wants to tell us through the first paragraph that___________.
A. interest is the best teacher
B. children are the hope of the future
C. young people are fearless

3.What is the secret of happiness in the author’s opinion?
A. Success and wealth.
B. Gifts and self-confidence.
C. Enthusiasm and good health.
D. Knowledge and achievements.
4.We can infer from the last paragraph that ___________.
A. rich people generally feel unhappy
B. wealth can’t bring people any happiness
C. one will feel unhappy once he has gained all the things he wants
D. being enthusiastic about what you are doing is more important than wealth

I remember clearly the last time I cried. I was twelve years old, in the seventh grade, and I had tried out for the junior high school basketball team. I walked into the gym. There was a piece of paper on the wall.
It was a cut list. The boys whose names were on the list were welcome to keep on practicing. The boys whose names were not on the list had been cut. Their presence was no longer desired.
I had not known the cut was coming that day. I stood and stared at the list. The list had not been made with a great deal of consideration. The names of the best players were at the top, and the other members of the team were listed in what appeared to be a descending (下降的) order of basketball skills. I kept looking at the bottom of the list, hoping that my name would appear if I looked hard enough.
I held myself together as I walked out, bat when I got home I began to cry. For the first time in my life, I had been told officially that I wasn't good enough. Sports meant everything to boys of that age. If you were on the team, it put you in the desirable group. If you were not, you might as well not be alive.
All these years later, I remember it as if 1 were still standing right there in the gym. I don't know how the mind works in matters like this. I don't know what went on in my head following that day of cut. But I know that my determination has been so strong ever since then. I have known that for all my life since that day. I have done more work than I had to be doing and pat in more hours than I had to be spending, I don't know if all of that came from a determination never to allow myself to be cut again—never to allow someone to tell me that I'm not good enough again—but I know it is there. And clearly it's there in a lot of other successful men too.
1.From the text we learn that the cut list had names of pupils __________.
A.who were cut out B.who were still on the team
C.who were the old players D.who were not good enough
2.Why did the author react so strongly to the cut?
A.It hurt his pride deeply. B.It was open to the public.
C.It listed his name at the bottom. D.It forced him to change the team.
3.We can infer from the text that the author __________.
A.has made friends with many other men
B.has never learned the truth of the cut
C.has become quite successful in life
D.has learned to play basketball very well
