Most people want to be successful, but never stop to think what it will really take to get there in their chosen field. If it means going back to college for 2 years of night school, could you do it ? If it means reading a book a week for about 6 months in order to really master a new skill ? If you aren’t prepared to do any of those things because they are outside of your comfort zone, then you can forget being succesful. I guarantee you will never reach your goals in life, unless your goals are to be ordinary.
The biggest killer by far is the dreaded “ comfort zone ” where most people live in their entire life. And the funny thing is that people just can’t wrap their heads around the fact that people who have reached some success get tons of time to just relax, but only because they’ve earned it ! If you haven’t built a successful business, or in some way built a career that allow you so much freee time, then you are stuck in the grinding world of nine-to-five jobs everyone else. So how comfortable is that ?
So what can you do about it ? Well, find a way to make something happen in your life--- build a business around your favourite hobby, write a book and publish it, or take a course in stock trading and become an expert at that, working on making enough money to retire. If you don’t take massive action that puts your way of your comfort zone, you will never be successful at much of anything. I promise--- and I don’t make many promises !

Most people want to be happy, but few know how to find happiness. Money and success alone do not bring lasting(永恒的、永久的) happiness. Aristotle (亚里士多德), a Greek thinker, said, “Happiness depends upon ourselves.” In other words, we make our own happiness. Here are a few suggestions to help you be happier.
The first secret of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life. Too often, we spend so much time thinking about the future —for example, getting into college or getting a good job —that we fail to enjoy the present. You should enjoy life’s simple pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your favorite music, or spending time with close friends. People who have several close friends often live happier and healthier lives.
Another secret to living a happy life is to be active, and have hobbies where you forget your problems and time. Many people experience dancing, playing a sport, or swimming. You can forget about your problems, and only think about the activity. Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. Studies show that people feel good when they spend their time helping others. If you want to feel happier, do good things for someone. You can help a friend with his or her studies, go shopping to buy food for an elderly person, or simply help out around the house by washing the dishes.

Success is everybody’s dream. But what is the key to success? How can you be successful? I think we should measure success based on how much we give rather than how much we receive. Fortunately, it also works nicely the other way around since those who give more almost always will also receive more. So how do you pave your way to success? How do you become more successful? The answer is amazingly simple: the key to success is making yourself as useful as possible to others. Here are some ideas on how to do it.
1. Be observant of needs
To be useful to others, you should always be aware of even the slightest clues of needs. The more sensitive you are to the needs of others, the more appreciative people will eventually become. The best plan is being able to anticipate a need before the other people are even aware of it.
2. Find solutions to the needs
Now that you are aware of needs, the next step is finding solutions to them. The solutions you offer should be as useful as possible. To be able to do so, there is no other way but to continuously build your own value. It is from the value you have that you could give value to others.
3. Be proactive to help
Do not wait for the other person to ask for your help. Be proactive. Give your help even before they ask.
4. _________________
What matters is not only the solution you offer, but also the way you deliver it. Being sincere means being glad to help others without expecting anything in return. Make it your joy to give something to others. People can somehow distinguish whether or not you are sincere.
5. Go the extra mile
Doing the above four steps is good, but add this one if you can: give more than expected. First, give what is expected, and then add a little more. If you do the above four steps people will be appreciative, but if you add this one step they will be impressed.
1. What is the measure of success according to the author?
A.Success means giving more as well as asking for more. |
B.Success is based on how much money you make. |
C.The more you receive from others, the more successful you will be. |
D.The more you give, the more successful you will be. |
2.The underlined word anticipate in para 2 probably means_______
A.offer | B.expect | C.prevent | D.change |
3.What’s the best title for the fifth paragraph?
A.Solutions Are Important. | B.Give More Help to Others |
C.Expecting More | D.Be Sincere |
4.The author would NOT agree that______
A.people should continuously build up their own value. |
B.the best time to help others is when they ask for help. |
C.people should help others without expecting anything in return. |
D.it is good to give others more help than what is expected. |
5.What does the passage mainly talk about?
A.How to measure success accurately. |
B.How to make your dreams come true. |
C.Giving is more important than receiving. |
D.How a person can be most useful to others. |

Most people I meet want to develop more harmonious and satisfying relationships. But we may not realize that this can only be achieved by partnering with two new and strange allies(盟友): uncertainty and confusion. Most of us aren’t trained to like confusion or to admit we feel hesitant and uncertain. In our schools and organizations, we place value on sounding certain and confident.
As life continues to speed up, I believe our changing world requires less certainty and far more curiosity. I’m not suggesting we let go of our beliefs, but that we become curious about what someone else believes. As we become open to the disturbing differences, sometimes we discover that another’s way of interpreting the world is actually essential to our survival.
For me, the first step in becoming curious is to admit that I’m not succeeding in figuring things out by myself. If my solutions don’t work as well as I’d like, I take these as signs that it’s time to begin asking others what they think. I try to become a conscious listener, actively listening for differences.
There are many ways to listen for differences. Lately, I’ve been listening for what surprises me. This isn’t easy — I’m accustomed to sitting there, nodding my head as someone voices his opinions. But when I notice what surprises me, I’m able to see my own views more clearly, including my assumptions.
If you’re willing to be disturbed and confused, I recommend you begin a conversation with someone who thinks differently from you. Listen for what’s different and what surprises you. Try to stop the voice of judgment or opinion and just listen. At the end, notice whether you’ve learned something new.
We have the opportunity many times a day to be the one who listens to others and the one who is curious rather than certain. When we listen with fewer judgments, we always develop better relationships with each other. It’s not differences that divide us. It’s our judgments that do. Curiosity and good listening bring us back together.
As I consider partnering with confusion and uncertainty, I’m learning that we don’t have to agree with each other in order to think well together. There is no need for us to be joined at the head. We are already joined by our hearts.

D. try to develop more harmonious relationships with others.
3.What does the passage advise you to do when you hear different ideas?
A. We should let go of our beliefs.
B. We should admit that we are not succeeding in figuring out things.
C. We should be accustomed to sitting there and listening.
D. We should listen and find out the valuable points
4.What do the underlined sentences in the passage imply?
A. We should listen more and judge less.
B. We should make decisions based on sound judgment.

5.Which of the following best describes the author’s attitude to uncertainty and confusion?
A. Favorable. B. Resistant.

Before you make friends, you have to decide who you want to be your friends. Most people like to have friends who like to do the same kinds of things they do.
The quickest way to make a friend is to smile. When you smile, people think you are friendly and easy to talk to. It may not be easy at first to smile, but remember most people will stay away from a scared or angry looking face.
One easy way to start a conversation with someone is to say something nice about him. Think about how great you feel when someone says something nice to you. Doesn’t it make you want to keep talking to that person?
Ask your new friends questions about themselves. Who’s their favorite singer, where do they live, what do they do after school are all good questions to start a conversation. Make sure you have something to add to the conversation, too. When someone asks you a question, do have an answer for them. There is nothing that will stop a conversation quicker than a shrugfor an answer.
Kids who show an interest in other kids and who are kind and friendly make good friends. Remember, everyone wants to be around people who like to do similar things and people who are nice to them.

He is a Time Lord who can travel anywhere he wants in time, but still never seems to be happy. He is always very well dressed. He refuses to use guns to kill anybody, preferring to trust his brains. Who could be a better hero for British people? He is the Doctor, hero of the popular BBC TV series Doctor Who, which celebrated the 10th anniversary of its 2005 reboot on March 26.
In 2005 the sci-fi TV series returned to British screens after originally running from 1963 until 1989. In the series, the Doctor travels through time in his TARDIS police box, saving Earth and other planets from dangerous aliens and humans.
The show looked a little different upon its 2005 return — the show used to be famous for cheap, ugly special effects but they were gone, replaced by expensive computer effects and attractive young stars. Christopher Eccleston played the Ninth Doctor in 2005, and there have been four more since, including the current Twelfth Doctor, Peter Capaldi.
You may wonder why the Doctor has been played by so many people, thirteen in total. This is because every few years, the doctor “regenerates”,which means his character "dies” but comes back to life with a completely new body afterwards. As the Radio Times put it:“Who else can cheat death by getting a whole new face?”
The show has no limits. The Doctor has already visited the time of Shakespeare, found out the truth about the American moon landing of 1969’ and gone back to the very early days of Earth. He has also traveled forward in time and been to many strange planets. Who knows where he’ll go in the next 10 years? Or if the Doctor will even be a man? Last year, head writer Steven Moffat told BANG Showbiz ii is very possible that a woman will play the Doctor in the future
Are you ready for more travels with him or her through time?
