LG Electronics, the world’s fourth largest cell phone producer, has added another feature to the mobile phone-reading books for the visually impaired(弱视). The company started marketing the model, the LF1300 on Sep.18.No other people but the blind and visually-impaired with a certificate(证书) can buy the talking phone at sales shops of LG Electronics.
“The LF1300 is the world’s first mobile phone that is capable of reading books for the print-disabled, who otherwise could not enjoy them. This is not about making money but about continuing to put froth efforts to reduce the digital difference for the disabled,” LG Vice President said.
Its users can download about 300 audio books from the Internet site of LG Sangam Library to their phones for free in two ways. One is to access the digital library’s Website on a computer designed for the blind to get the audio books and transfer them to cell phones. The other is to download the digital books directly with cell phones through the wireless net work by touching a hot key on the LF1300 phone.
On top of its unique feature of reading books, the LF1300 is no worse than the pupular top-line phones in both outlooks and frnctionalities(功能性). The phone is armed with an MP3 player and a Bluetooth headset, enabling users to listen to the music or talk without a cord. The user interface(界面) of the LF1300 is also designed for the blind, enabling phone users to control it through a voice guidance system.
However, because the phone’s internal mimory of 17MB is small even for a single audio book file, which takes up 80MB on average, a high-volume external memory is a must for the talking book services.
1.________ are allowed to buy the talking phone.
A.Disabled people with a certificate
B.All the blind and poor-sighted people
C.The blind and poor-sighted with a certificate
D.Both healthy and disabled citizens
2.The users can enjoy reading books on LF1300 by________.

C.touching its screen D.touching the hot key
3.What can be learned from the passage?
A.This is the first time LG company has done something for the disabled.
B.Phone users don’t have to pay much to download the digital books.
C.LF1300 has a less attractive outlook than any other top-line phone.
D.The disadvantage of LF1300 is that it has too small internal memory.
4.The best title of the passage might be________.
A.A New Type of Cell Phone is on the Market
B.Mobile Phones Can Read Books for the Print-Disabled
C.The Disabled will Benefit from Cell Phone Producers
D.Advanced Technology Helps the Blind Read Books

Nuclear power is the world's largest source of clean energy. Nuclear power plants(电厂) produce no controlled air pollutants, such as sulfur or greenhouse gases. The use of nuclear power in place of other energy sources helps to keep the air clean, preserve the earth's climate, and prevent acid rain.
However, there exist safety concerns if the plant is not operated correctly or unforeseen things happened when the plant was developed, as happened at the Fukishima(福岛) plant in Japan. It may cause damage to everything, including our health. Nuclear power's danger to health, safety, and even life itself can be summed up in one word: radiation.
Nuclear radiation has a certain mystery about it, partly because it cannot be detected by human senses. It can't be seen or heard, or touched or tasted, even though it may be all around us. There are other things like that. For example, radio waves are all around us but we can't detect them, sense them, without a radio receiver. Similarly, we can't sense radioactivity without a radiation detector. But unlike common radio waves, nuclear radiation is not harmless to human beings and other living things.
At very high levels, radiation can kill an animal or human being immediately by killing masses of cells in vital organs. But even the lowest levels can do serious damage. There is no levels of radiation that is completely safe. If the radiation does not hit anything important, the damage may not be serious. This is the case when only a few cells are hit, and if they are killed immediately. Your body will replace the dead cells with healthy ones. But if the few cells are only damaged, and if they reproduce themselves, you may be in trouble. They reproduce themselves in a deformed way. They can grow into cancer. Sometimes this does not show up for many years.
This is another reason for some of the mystery about nuclear radiation. Serious damage can be done without the victim being aware at the time that damage has occurred. A person can be irradiated(辐射)and feel fine, then die for cancer five, ten, or twenty years later as a result. Or a child can be born weak as a result of radiation absorbed by its grandparents. Radiation can hurt us. We must know the truth.
1.What can we infer from the passage?
A. We can’t detect radioactivity even with modern equipment.
B. Only radiation at very high levels can kill an animal or human being.
C. If a few cells are only damaged, healthy cells will take the place of dead ones.
D. Radiation is harmful no matter what level it is.
2.How can nuclear radiation kill an animal?
A. By killing many cells in important organs.
B. By killing a few cells.
C. By hitting any place in its body.
D. By damaging its heart.
3.If a human being is hit by nuclear radiation, he may .
A. die of cancer after many years
B. die immediately
C. have a child who may be born weak
D. all of the above
4.What’s the author’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A. Discussing the cause of cancer.
B. Solving the mystery about radiation.
C. Emphasizing the importance of protection from radiation.
D. Introducing the nuclear power.

We are now living in an information world that TV, cell phones and the Web are wide used. It seems that many people can not enjoy them without them. However, if I had to give up one of them, I will turn off the TV rather than switch off my cell phone and cut off the Internet. I could do without TV because few show take my fancy and there’re too many commercials. Besides, most programs on the TV are also available elsewhere. As for cell phones and the Web, they are more necessarily to me. I need a cell phone to keep touch with my friends and family, and almost all information can be gather on the Internet.

In today's world of cell phones, mini laptops and MP3 players, most people have at least one time-telling tool with them. Since these devices are so common, is time running out for the 500-year-old watch? According to some consumers, yes. New Jersey teenager Charlie Wollman says a watch is "an extra piece of equipment with no necessary function." Many young adults agree ─ and use their cell phones to tell time. Louis Galie, a senior vice president at Timex, said that fewer young people wear watches today than five years ago. As a result, some people claim that the watch industry is at a crossroads.
However, watchmakers optimistically say that watches regain popularity when consumers reach their 20s and 30s. By then, they are willing to spend money on a quality timepiece that doesn't just keep good time. Fifty years ago, watchmakers boasted(自夸) about their products' accuracy. But in recent years, the watch industry has transformed itself into an accessory(附件,配件) business. And for many today, the image(外形) a watch communicates has become more important than the time it tells.
"Complications" ─ features that go beyond simple timekeeping ─ are an important part of a watch's image. Today's watches offer a host of features that suit almost any personality. These features include altitude trackers(追踪器), compasses(指南针), lunar calendars, USB drives, and even devices that measure the effectiveness of golf swings!
Creativity is also a key element in today's watches. For example, Japanese watchmaker Tokyoflash makes watches that don't even look like watches. The company's popular Shinshoku model uses different color lights to tell the time. It looks more like a futuristic bracelet(手镯) than a watch. Another Japanese watchmaker, EleeNo, makes a "handless" watch. Using a ring of circles to keep time, this watch makes an excellent conversation piece.
Whether a watch communicates fashion sense, creative flair or a love of sports, consumers want their timepieces to stand out. Nowadays, everyone has the same kind of gadget in their bags, so people want to make a statement with what's on their wrists(手腕). Will this interest in wrist fashion last? Only time will tell!
1.Why aren’t watches popular with young people as before?
A. Because watches cannot keep good time as cell phones, mini laptops and MP3 players.
B. Because watches are featured by the disadvantages of simple function
C. Because watches are too expensive to afford.
D. Because watches don’t have beautiful appearance as other modern time telling tools.
2. What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 1 mean?
A. Watching-making is facing a survival crisis challenge.
B. Watching-making is faced with the developing opportunity.
C. Watching-making becomes the sun rising industry.
D. Watching-making has a specific development target.
3. It can be implied that ____________________.
A. people will gradually lose interest in watches as they grow older
B. watchmakers hardly change the development strategy for watches
C. today’s watches are better than those in the past in quality
D. customers used to be more concerned with the quality of a watch than with its image.
4.The following qualities can make a watch popular EXCEPT _________.
A. multifunction B. accuracy C. nice design D. low price
5.What’s the best title of the passage?
A. Watches and Teenagers B. The History of Watches
C. The Accuracy of Watches D. Watches Tell More Than Time

Today, the technology that is being developed for cell phones is surprising. Soon our cell phones will be able to do things that we thought impossible or not even thought of at all.
When picturing the future, there are quite a few things that we would love our cell phones to be able to do. Let’s take a look at the ones that are likely to be in the next generation of cell phones. Cell phones of the near future will be able to start and unlock cars, turn lights on and off in houses, make payments(付款), work as computers. This sounds too good to be true, right? Fortunately, this future is just over the horizon; you won’t wait too long. New technology for phones is being developed to realize eye scans(扫描)and fingerprint scans as new“unlock your phone”, so you needn’t worry about your information being stolen.
What do I want my phone to be able to do? I want it to be special. For example, I will shout to my phone across the room“Give me directions to the market”and it pulls up the directions and sends them to my printer. Is it possible? Yes. Maybe someday cell phones will be able to change into robots and walk our dogs and clean our houses too. Who knows? In the last 30 years we have gone from hardly knowing what a cell phone was to surfing the Internet with excellent cell phones.
It is hard to believe that technology is advancing as quickly as it is, with no end in sight. In 5 years the technology of today will be a thing of the past, and the world won’t look back one bit.

高二英语阅读理解中等难度题查看答案及解析
In the United States alone, over 100 million cell-phones are thrown away each year. Cell-phones are part of a growing mountain of electronic waste like computers and personal digital assistants. The electronic waste stream is increasing three times faster than traditional garbage as a whole.
Electronic devices contain valuable metals such as gold and silver. A Swiss study reported that while the weight of electronic goods represented by precious metals was relatively small in comparison to total waste, the concentration (含量) of gold and other precious metals was higher in So-called e-waste than in naturally occurring minerals.
Electronic wastes also contain many poisonous metals. Even when the machines are recycled and the harmful metals removed, the recycling process often is carried out in poor countries, in practically uncontrolled ways which allow many poisonous substances to escape into the environment.
Creating products out of raw materials creates much more waste material, up to 100 times more, than the material contained in the finished products. Consider again the cell-phone, and imagine the mines that produced those metals, the factories needed to make the box and packaging(包装) it came in. Many wastes produced in the producing process are harmful as well.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency notes that most waste is dangerous in that “the production, distribution, and use of products — as well as management of the resulting waste — all result in greenhouse gas release.” Individuals can reduce their contribution by creating less waste at the start — for instance, buying reusable products and recycling.
In many countries the concept of extended producer responsibility is being considered or has been put in place as an incentive (动机) for reducing waste. If producers are required to take back packaging they use to sell their products, would they reduce the packaging in the first place?
Governments’ incentive to require producers to take responsibility for the packaging they produce is usually based on money. Why, they ask, should cities or towns be responsible for paying to deal with the bubble wrap (气泡垫) that encased your television?
From the governments’ point of view, a primary goal of laws requiring extended producer responsibility is to transfer both the costs and the physical responsibility of waste management from the government and tax-payers back to the producers.
1.By mentioning the Swiss study, the author intends to tell us that __________.
A. the weight of e-goods is rather small
B. natural minerals contain more precious metals
C. E-waste deserves to be made good use of
D. the percentage of precious metals is heavy in e-waste
2.The responsibility of e-waste treatment should be extended __________.
A. from producers to governments B. from distributors to governments
C. from individuals to distributors D. from governments to producers
3.What does the passage mainly talk about?
A. The increase in e-waste. B. The management of e-waste.
C. The seriousness of e-waste. D. The creation of e-waste.

高二英语单项填空简单题查看答案及解析
Teenagers who talk on the cell phone a lot, and hold their phones up to their right ears, score worse on one type of memory test. That’s the finding of a new study. That memory impairment might be one side effect of the radiation (放射线) that phones use to keep us connected while we’re on the go.
Nearly 700 Swiss teens took part in a test of figural memory. This type helps us remember abstract (抽象的) symbols and shapes, explains Milena Foerster. The teens took memory tests twice, one year apart. Each time, they had one minute to remember 13 pairs of abstract shapes. Then they were shown one item from each pair and asked to match it with one of the five choices. The study volunteers also took a test of verbal memory. That’s the ability to remember words. The two memory tests are part of an intelligence test. The researchers also surveyed the teens on how they use cell phones. And they got call records from phone companies. The researchers used those records to figure out how long the teens were using their phones. This allowed the researchers to work out how big a radiation exposure (接触) each person could have got while talking.
A phone user’s exposure to the radiation can differ widely. Some teens talk on their phones more than others. People also hold their phones differently. If the phone is close to the ear, more radiation may enter the body, Foerster notes. Even the type of network signal that a phone uses can matter. Much of Switzerland was using an older “second-generation” type of cell phone networks, the study reports. Many phone carriers (通讯公司) have moved away from such networks. And more companies plan to update their networks within the next few years.
The teens’ scores in the figural memory tests were roughly the same from one year to the next. But those who normally held their phones near the right ears, and who were also exposed to higher levels of radiation, scored a little bit worse after a year. No group of teens showed big changes on the verbal memory test. Why might one type of memory be linked to cell phone use, but not another? Foerster thinks it could have to do with where different memory centers sit in the brain. The site that deals with the ability to remember shapes is near the right ear.
1.According to Paragraph 2, which of the following is TRUE?
A.The teens took two types of memory tests four times in total.
B.The teens needed to report the average time spent on their phones.
C.Researchers paid little attention to the teens’ habits of using phones.
D.The teens’ ability of remembering words is shown in figural memory test.
2.What can we infer from Paragraph 3?
A.How people hold their phones has no effect on their bodies.
B.Phone users can make more money with new networks.
C.The cell phone network type has little to do the cell phone use.
D.Radiation levels are affected by the cell phone network types.
3.According to the study, teens who use their phones to their right ears a lot do worse in ________.
