In life, we will succeed and fail often for reasons that are entirely out of our control. For instance, we can be incredibly nice and love someone deeply, and they may not love us back. We can work harder than anyone else in the office and still not be promoted to management. We can eat healthy food, exercise and stay away from alcohol and cigarettes, and still get sick.
The bottom line is that life is not fair.
That is a tough pill to swallow for many of us. As a result, some people shut down after being hit by even one unfair blow from life. They can’t handle the fact that our efforts don’t always get the results that we expect. But if we let life’s unfairness defeat us, we will never receive the beautiful blessings (幸事) that life has in store for us.
For example, my first marriage ended in divorce. To me, it felt very unfair. I had worked hard to be a good wife and mother. However, no matter what I did, I could not make the relationship work.
I could have been shut down by that experience. I could have decided that if one person didn’t appreciate me as a wife, then no one would. I could have given up. But I knew that I wanted to be married. I knew that I wanted to experience traditional family life. So I didn’t let one seemingly unfair experience stop me from believing that I could one day be happily married. And then one day, I met this kind, thoughtful, generous man with whom I now have a wonderful friendship and marriage. But that wouldn’t have happened if I had decided to give up after one failed marriage.
What I’ve learned over the years is that we can do all the things that deserve a good outcome, but get bad things in return instead.
When we are faced with life’s seeming unfairness, our faith needs to jump in. When life doesn’t go according to plan, we have to let go of the outcome that we are looking forward to and keep trying, working hard and doing the right thing. Please don’t be discouraged. Accept that life is neither fair nor straightforward. And by knowing that if we remain confident, we can drive our unfair experiences away and use them for our benefit.
1.We can learn from the first three paragraphs that ______.
A. life doesn’t often turn out the way we expect
B. the author thinks life should reward us for our efforts
C. unsatisfactory results simply mean your effort is not enough
D. people should focus on the process rather than the outcomes
2.The author wrote about her unsuccessful marriage to ______.
A. complain about the unfairness of her life and marriage
B. tell readers how she met her second husband and became happily married
C. express how proud she is for not being shut down by a blow from life
D. show that we need to have faith and continue working for our goals
3.When we encounter unfairness in life, the author suggests we ______.
a. do nothing but accept them
b. be confident with ourselves
c. keep doing what we should do
d. find out what has gone wrong
A. ab B. ad
C. bc D. cd
4.The author wrote the article mainly to ______.
A. share her experiences of unfairness in life
B. tell us how to deal with life’s seeming unfairness
C. tell us that life has beautiful blessings in store for us
D. explain why life seems neither fair nor straightforward

There are many rights to make sure that people will be treated fairly when they are suspected or accused of a crime. Sometimes these rights are called "due process of law". In using these rights, a person should have the help of a lawyer.
You have a right to protect against unreasonable searches and seizures. The police generally may not search you or your home, or take things you own, without a "warrant". A warrant is a paper which states, very exactly, the place to be searched and the things to be taken. Sometimes, however, the police will not need a warrant to search you or your property. If an officer sees you committing a crime, or if he has a good reason to believe you have committed a serious crime, he may arrest you and search you and the area right around you without a warrant.
If you invite a police without a warrant to come into your house and he finds proof of crime, the evidence may be used against you in court. If you do not want an officer to search you or your home and he does not have a warrant, tell him that you do not give him the right to search. However, if the officer will not listen, do not try to stop him. It is dangerous to resist and it may be illegal to do so. Any evidence which a policeman gets during an unlawful search and seizure cannot be used against you.
Police officers must act reasonably and fairly at all times. They should use physical force only when it is needed to arrest someone to enforce a law. They may not use physical violence to "teach someone a lesson".
1.According to the passage, a "warrant" is______.
A.an identification card B.an official written order
C.a special license D.an access card
2.The police can use physical force only when _______.
A.they want to teach the habitual thief a lesson
B.the criminal resists arrest
C.they catch the criminal on the spot
D.the suspect talks back
3.The passage centers around _______.
A.the rights of citizens B.the importance of warrants
C.the duty of the police D.criminal cases

People are seeking for opportunities that will assist them in reaching their goals. Marketing yourself can be a good choice, which can help you achieve your goals. Though when people talk about marketing, they usually think that this is about producing a sale, it does not necessarily have to be.
If you are an employee then you want your boss to take your ideas, and if you are on a job hunting then you want to find a good position. So in reality, marketing really leads to sale. So marketing yourself means you are simply “selling” yourself!
The common problem in marketing yourself is that most people think that it is unpleasant to market themselves. They think that marketing concerns only to a business. Of course, this is absolutely not true. People who want to attain the success they desire must promote themselves.
Marketing yourself is a useful tool. The better you market yourself, the more opportunities you will have. Marketing yourself does not really mean telling every person how beautiful and wonderful you are. It means letting your prospective employer know that you exist or you can do something better.
There are actually several different ways of marketing yourself. But there are only two primary ways that you carry out. The first is to find ways to reach out to others and the second is to construct ways in order for the people to find you and make connection with you.
To reach out and touch the lives of others, you have to be a good person and a good employee. In that way your good reputation will follow naturally. Have a brief and concise message that you can share with others. When you market yourself, you tell people who you are and what you can do for others. Plan well and practice your message.
In constructing ways for the people to notice and make connection with you, you must be open to them. Communication is a great opportunity to make an impact especially when you market yourself. You also communicate by what you are wearing. Know the appropriate dress code and have plenty of time to decide what you will wear. Just remember to make a great first impression!
1.What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Marketing yourself is a business.
B. The subject of marketing yourself.
C. The ways of marketing yourself.

A. confident B. cheerful
C. terrible D. appropriate
