Dutch officials toasted on Tuesday the opening of what is being called the world’s first 3D-printed concrete bridge, which is meant to be used by cyclists. There was applause as officials wearing hard hats and workmen’s jackets rode over the bridge on their bikes at the opening ceremony in the southeastern town of Gemert.
“The bridge is not very big, but it was rolled out by a printer which makes it unique,” Theo Salet, from the Eindhoven University of Technology, told Dutch broadcaster NOS. Work on printing the bridge, which has some 800 layers, took about three months after starting in June and it is made of pre-stressed concrete, according to the university. “One of the advantages of printing a bridge is that much less concrete is needed than in the conventional technique in which a mould (泥浆) is filled,” it said on its website, adding “a printer deposits the concrete only where it is needed.”
The eight-metre (26-foot) bridge crosses a water-filled channel to connect two roads, and it was tested for safety to bear loads of up to two metric tons in cooperation with the BAM Infra Construction Company. “Although designed for bikes, it could take up to 40 trucks,”the designers said. “We are looking to the future,” said the head of BAM, Marinus Schimmel. “3D printing meant fewer rare resources were needed and there was significantly less waste,” he added.
The Netherlands is among countries, with the United States and China, taking a lead in this cutting-edge technology, using computers and robotics to construct objects and structures from scratch without using much traditional manpower. Last year a Dutch architect unveiled (提示) a unique 3D printer with which he hopes to construct an “endless loop” building. And a Dutch start-up called MX3D has begun printing a stainless-steel bridge, of which a third is already completed. The aim is to finish printing by March and lay the bridge over an Amsterdam canal in the future.
1.According to the text, what makes the bridge unique?
A.It adopts 3D printing.
B.It opens only to cyclists.
C.It is made of new material.
D.It uses much less concrete.
2.Which does Marinus Schimmel agree ?
A.In theory, it can support up to 40 bicycles.
B.The kind of bridge is energy-saving.
C.The kind of bridge is safer than traditional ones.
D.The technology has been used widely.

China officially informed the World Trade Organization on Tuesday that it will ban the import of 24 different types of solid waste by the end of this year as part of a campaign to deal with environmental pollution and protect people’s health.
In response to growing public concerns over the potential environmental and health danger caused by the increasing amounts of solid waste imported into the country for recycling and treatment, China passed a special law in 1995 to control imports of waste materials, such as plastics, slag from steelmaking, unsorted scrap paper and discarded textile materials.
A year later, the country published a list for solid waste imports and began implementing a permit system to control the import volumes and types of waste imported.
However, due to the lack of effective supervision(监管) and the failure of relevant departments to fulfill their duties, solid waste imports have not been effectively controlled.
So far, China is the world’s largest importer of solid waste. According to the Ministry of Environmental Protection, China imported 7.3 million metric tons of plastic waste worth $3.7 billion in 2016, accounting for 56 percent of global imports of solid waste.
Correct recycling of solid waste materials is an important part of the global economy, and moderate imports of scrap plastic, scrap paper and scrap rubber products, such as vehicle tires, can to some extent, make up for China's shortage of various raw materials.
However, the lack of supervision has resulted in the country’s severe soil and environmental worsening.
Given that China’s continuing efforts to push for industrial transformation and upgrading have resulted in a noticeable decline in the demand for the materials recycled from solid waste imports. It is right for the country to restrict such imports for the sake of the environment and public health, and to better adapt to the changed industrial structure.
1.Why will China ban the import of some waste materials?
A. The amount of imported solid waste is increasing.
B. The demand for imported solid waste is in decline.
C. Some solid waste has damaged the environment and public health.
D. People are more concerned about the environment and health now.
2.Which phrase has the same meaning as the underlined word?
A. Carrying out. B. Putting off.
C. Calling off. D. Fighting against.
3.What is the problem when China deals with the imported waste?
A. Some imported waste is difficult to control.
B. The environment can’t afford the imported waste.
C. Some departments haven’t shouldered their duties.
D. Some useful materials are also among the solid waste.
4.What can we learn from the passage?
A. China will not rely on importing solid waste any more.
B. Solid waste plays an important part in the global economy.
C. People are against importing solid waste from developed countries.
D. Some imported waste can relieve the urgent need for raw materials.

South Korea has offered about 10,000 tons of corn to North Korea, in what would be the first official aid to its hungry neighbor for almost two years. The South also offered 20 tons of milk powder and medicine for children, pregnant women and other vulnerable people, its unification ministry said. The proposed shipmen would be through the Red Cross. It would be the first official one since a conservative government came to power in Seoul in February 2008.The South Korean administration of President Lee Myung-bak has linked major assistance to progress on denuclearisation.
However, after months of bitter hostility, the communist North began making peace overtures(提议,提案) to the South in recent months.Persistent media reports have also said the two sides have held preliminary talks about a possible summit.
The amount of food aid on offer is tiny relative to the needs in what the United Nations recently described as the famine-hit North.A third of North Korean women and young children are malnourished(营养不良的) and the country will run short of almost 1.8 million tons of food this year, the United Nations World Food Program said in a report last month. The unification ministry admitted it was far less than needed but said the North must mend relations before shipments could be increased.
"We cannot say 10,000 tons is sufficient in view of North Korea's food shortage and other conditions," said ministry spokeswoman Lee Jong-Joo."We are providing purely humanitarian aid," she said.
"There is no change in our position that massive food aid depends on how relations between the two Koreas develop," she said.North Korea has yet to respond to the latest offer, made through the Red Cross. But Yonhap news agency said it was likely co-ordinated in advance before the announcement.
Last year the South offered 50,000 tons of corn, but the North rejected the shipment amid high tensions.
North Korea has relied on food aid from China, South Korea and aid agencies to feed millions of its people since a famine in the 1990s resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands.
50.How would North Korea be offered about 10,000 tons of corn from South Korea?
A.North Korea would buy corn from South Korea.
B.North Korea would exchange with South Korea.
C.The offer would be through the Red Sea..
D.The offer would be through an international organization
51.About whether South Korea would go on offering assistance, we can infer from the passage that________________.
A.they would go on without any condition
B.they would go on if there was a famine in North Korea
C.it depended on how their relation would develop
D.it depended on whether North Korea needed it
52.How did North Korea survive since a famine in the 1990s?
A.They depended on the international aid from all other countries
B.They developed their agriculture to increase the production
C.They expanded the agricultural land
D.They relied on food aid from China, South Korea and aid agencies
53.What is the main idea of the passage?
A. It’s about the aid to South Korea from North Korea
B.It tells about the help between South Korea and North Korea
C.It’s about the help to the Poor
D.It tells about an action of the Red Cross

(London)If it really is what's on the inside that counts, then a lot of thin people might be in trouble.
Some doctors now think that the internal fat surrounding important organs like the heart or liver could be as dangerous as the external fat which can be noticed more easily.
“Being thin doesn't surely mean you are not fat,” said Dr Jimmy Bell at Imperial College. Since 1994, Bell and his team have scanned nearly 800 people with MRI machines to create “fat maps” showing where people store fat.
According to the result, people who keep their weight through diet rather than exercise are likely to have major deposits of internal fat, even if they are slim.
Even people with normal Body Mass Index scores can have surprising levels of fat deposits inside. Of the women, as many as 45 percent of those with normal BMI scores (20 to 25) actually had too high levels of internal fat. Among men, the percentage was nearly 60 percent.
According to Bell, people who are fat on the inside are actually on the edge of being fat. They eat too many fatty and sugary foods, but they are not eating enough to be fat. Scientists believe we naturally store fat around the belly first, but at some point, the body may start storing it elsewhere.
Doctors are unsure about the exact dangers of internal fat, but some think it has something to do with heart disease and diabetes. They want to prove that internal fat damages the body's communication systems.
The good news is that internal fat can be easily burned off through exercise or even by improving your diet. “If you want to be healthy, there is no short cut. Exercise has to be an important part of your lifestyle,” Bell said.
