So you have been called for an interview-well done. Your effort has paid off. Now go to get the job. You will feel better at the interview if you show an understanding of the nature of the organization.
Ask someone who already does it or check it out with one of the advisers.
Ask a member of family or a friend to act as the employer and to give you a practice interview. Afterwards discuss how it went.
Think about how the employer would prefer to see your look. Remember most of the employers are over 30. It is not wise to buy new clothes that will be worn for the first time at the interview. It’s best to wear a familiar dress.
Carelessness in any of these could cost you the job. Arrive at least 15 minutes ahead of time. This will give you a chance to have a look around, read the notice board and get the feel of the place. Being late at interviews produces a bad impression. The first impression the interviewer gets of you is formed as you walk through the door,so take a couple of deep breaths.
Be ready to shake hands if the interviewer offers.
Don’t take a seat until asked. Then sit comfortably.
Remember the interviewer’s name and use it from time to time.
Be ready for the question “Is there anything you want to ask?” Before the interview you should get ready for two or three such questions. Look on these not just as a chance to get information but as a means to leave a better impression. Asking can show knowledge and avoid asking about holidays, pension (养老金) and so on. You can check on these later when the hopedfor job is offered.
And if you fail, look upon the interview as an experience in itself. Learn from it.
We wish you good luck and good job hunting.

Elephants have impressed us for centuries. They are big, clever, and sociable. But what if someone told you that they may also hold the key to fighting cancer?
People have been wondering why elephants do not develop cancer, even though they have life spans(寿命)that are similar to humans, living for around 50 to 70 years.
Now scientists believe they know why. A team at the University of Chicago, Us has found that elephants carry a large number of genes that stop tumors(肿瘤)from developing. To be precise, they found 20 copies of an anti-tumor gene called TP 53 in elephants. Most other species, humans included, only carry one copy.
According to the research, which was recently published on the online science network BioRxiv, the extra copies of the gene improved the animal’s sensitivity to DNA damage. This lets the cells(细胞)quickly kill themselves when damaged before they can form deadly tumors.
“An increased risk of developing cancer has stood in the way of the evolution of large body sizes in many animals,” study author Dr Vincent Lynch told The Guardian. If every living cell has the same chance of becoming cancerous, large creatures with long life spans like whales and elephants should have a greater risk of developing cancer than humans and mice do. But across species, the risk of cancer does not show a connection with body mass.
This phenomenon was found by Oxford University scientist Richard Peto in the 1970s and later named “Peto’s paradox”. Evolutionary biologists believe it results from larger animals using protection that many smaller do not, In the elephant’s case, the making of TP53 is nature’s way of keeping this species alive.
The study also found that when the same genes were brought to life in mice, they had the same cancer resistance as elephants. This means researchers could use the discovery to develop new treatments that can help stop cancers from spreading or even developing in the first place.
“Nature has already figured out how to prevent cancer,” said Joshua Schiffman, an oncologist at the School of Medicine, University of Utah, US.
“It’s up to us to learn how different animals tackle(对付)the problem so we can use those strategies to prevent cancer in people.”
1.Why are elephants unlikely to develop cancer?
A. They have a large body size
B. They carry many genes that keep tumors from developing
C. Certain genes in their body kill existing tumors
D. Their genes suffer no DNA damage
2.According to Dr. Vincent Lynch, what has been a risk in the evolution of large animals?
A. Extreme weather B. Cells killing themselves
C. Human behavior D. A risk of deadly tumors
3.What does the underlined expression “this phenomenon” on the sixth paragraph refer to?
A. The risk of cancer is not related to body size
B. Larger animals have protection from TP53
C. Larger animals suffer the same risk of cancer as smaller ones do
D. The larger animals are, the bigger risk of cancer they have
4.We can conclude from the last three paragraphs that .
A. depending on nature is not enough to fight against cancer
B. the TP53 genes have proven useful in stopping cancer in mice
C. this new treatment is more effective than the present ones
D. humans are expected to stop cancer in the near future

If you wanted to know what it’s like to walk on the moon, you’d interview an astronaut. If you wanted insights(深刻的见解) on playing Hamlet, you’d study the performance of a Shakespearean actor. And if you wanted to know what the first year of teaching school is like, well... you’d ask teachers who just completed their first year on the job. We wanted to know and we asked.
This book attempts to capture the fascinating and inspiring answers we received. It is based largely on a series of discussions held among winners of the First Class Teacher Award sponsored(赞助) every year by Sallie Mae, a corporation devoted to education. As in the past years, first-year teachers who won the award came to Washington, DC in the fall for a weekend of awards and related events.
One activity that grew out of the awards is a series of focus group discussions. These discussions allow us to ask first-year teachers some key questions: What was it like the first year What were your hardest challenges and your greatest rewards? Did you get the right preparation? Do you have any insights you could offer new teachers?
The teachers talked in frank terms about what it’s like to feel rebuffed by experienced teachers, to struggle with budget cutbacks, to see children in pain. But the difficulties they related are only half the story. They also told us how they dealt with challenges, what they would want new teachers to know, and why being a teacher is so important to their sense of self. All together, their words paint a picture of an inspired and inspiring group of up-and-coming leaders in their profession. We believe their reflections will prove helpful to principals, administrators, university professors in education departments, and particularly, new teachers who are speeding up to face the first day of school. This book is built on the words and recollections(回忆) of award-winning, first-year teachers. We have used direct quotations(引用语) from teachers (with their permission), both from the focus group discussions and from a set of essays they wrote. We felt their voices needed to be heard as directly as possible. Our job was to present their insights in a way that would be useful for readers. What follows is our effort to do so.
Thank you for your interest, and we welcome your response.
Sincerely,
Sharon A. Bobbitt, Ph.D.

Heat has been used to control hair for hundreds of years. But how much is too much? If you have ever opened a very hot oven, you know that heat can burn your eyebrows off your face very quickly. A scientist from Purdue University in Indiana is trying to find a scientific answer on how hot is too hot when it comes to your hair.
Many women and some men are very particular about their hair. Some people who have naturally curly hair prefer to have it straightened. Others with straight hair want to have curls. Tahira Reid is one of those people. As an African-American woman, she is familiar with the challenges of maintaining (保养) curly hair.
Tahira Reid and other researchers at Purdue University are studying how heat treatment interacts with different types of hair and how to prevent damage. Amy Marconnet is an assistant professor. She says the team is seeing how heat and temperature relate to their research.
In a Purdue University’s lab, team members designed a hair straightener tool —a flat iron with temperature control. They attached it to a robotic arm that moved over pieces of hair. They controlled the temperature while the device straightened hair.
What did they find? Their study found that the heat weakens or breaks a protein called keratin, responsible for the hair’s shape, and temporarily changes it. But nobody knows exactly what level can make the heat actually cause forever change. Researchers say early results are a bit inconclusive.
It turns out that everyone’s hair is different and there’s no exact temperature where hair straightening becomes hair damage. Ms Reid says they will continue their research in the hope of finding what works best without damaging hair.
1.What does the scientist want to find out?
A. Ways to protect our hair.
B. Ways to maintain curly hair.
C. The temperature that can damage hair.
D. The temperature that makes hair curly.
2.The underlined part “those people” in Paragraph 2 refers to those who ________.
A. are African-Americans
B. love their hair very much
C. love making their hair curly
D. love changing their hairstyle
3.When the heat breaks a protein called keratin in the hair, ________.
A. the hair gets burned
B. the hair’s shape is changed
C. the hair is forever damaged
D. the hair surely becomes curly.
