Simon Sinek is naturally shy and doesn’t like speaking to crowds. At parties,he says he hides alone in the corner or doesn’t even show up in the first place. He prefers the latter.Yet,with some 22 million video views under his belt, the optimistic ethnographer also happens to be the third most watched TED Talks presenter of all time.
Sinek’s unlikely success as both an inspirational speaker and a bestselling author isn’t just dumb luck. It’s the result of fears faced and erased, trial and error and tireless practice,on and off stage. Here are his secrets for delivering speeches that inspire, inform and entertain.
Don’t talk right away.
Sinek says you should never talk as you walk out on stage.“A lot of people start talking right away, and it’s out of nerves,” Sinek says.“That communicates a little bit of insecurity and fear.”
Instead, quietly walk out on stage. Then take a deep breath, find your place, wait a few seconds and begin.“I know it sounds long and tedious and it feels excruciatingly awkward when you do it,” Sinek says,“but it shows the audience you’re totally confident and in charge of the situation.”
Show up to give, not to take.
Often people give presentations to sell products or ideas,to get people to follow them on social media, buy their books or even just to like them.Sinek calls these kinds of speakers “takers,” and he says audiences can see through these people right away. And,when they do,they disengage.
“We are highly social animals,” says Sinek.“Even at a distance on stage,we can tell if you’re a giver or a taker, and people are more likely to trust a giver — a speaker that gives them value, that teaches them something new, that inspires them — than a taker.”
Speak unusually slowly.
When you get nervous,it’s not just your heart beat that quickens.Your words also tend to speed up.Luckily Sinek says audiences are more patient and forgiving than we know.
“They want you to succeed up there, but the more you rush, the more you turn them off,” he says.“If you just go quiet for a moment and take a long, deep breath, they’ll wait for you. It’s kind of amazing.”
Turn nervousness into excitement.
Sinek learned this trick from watching the Olympics.A few years ago he noticed that reporters interviewing Olympic athletes before and after competing were all asking the same question.“Were you nervous?” And all of the athletes gave the same answer: “No,I was exciteD. ” These competitors were taking the body’s signs of nervousness—clammy hands, pounding heart and tense nerves—and reinterpreting them as side effects of excitement and exhilaration.
When you’re up on stage you will likely go through the same thing. That’s when Sinek says you should say to yourself out loud,“I’m not nervous,I’m excited!”
Say thank you when you’re done.
Applause is a gift, and when you receive a gift,it’s only right to express how grateful you are for it.This is why Sinek always closes out his presentations with these two simple yet powerful words: thank you.
“They gave you their time, and they’re giving you their applause.” Says Sinek.“That’s a gift, and you have to be grateful.”

When I opened my e-mail the other day, a pretty woman named Rachel appeared on my
computer screen. She greeted me by name and started talking with great enthusiasm.Every now and then she stopped to smile at me or blow a kiss. She was reading to me an e-mail from my brother, and a lot of it was about his getting the phone company to give him a high-speed Internet connection. It was pretty cool.
Rachel was there thanks to a new technology called Facemail.Facemail lets you send e-mail
that can read mails to the receiver by an attractive male or female form or by a clown. The software, which is free, can be downloaded at www.Facemail.com.
Facemail faces are lifelike, and they copy emotions based on the ones that you put in your
text. For example, type in X, and Rachel blows a kiss.]
Life FX, the company that develops the Facemail is sure there are broad business uses. The
reason e-business is not popular, the company says, is that buying over the Internet lacks the human touch. But what if you went to the Nike website and Michael Jordan greeted you by name, waited on you and personally closed the sale? Besides, the company is talking with Whirlpool company about the technology in a computer screen on a fridge. Then if Mom can’t be at home when the kids get back from school, she can leave a note with voice and image telling them what there is to eat.
Facemail could get hot fast.Personally, I am a fan.But Facemail should be used with words in
an e-mail and add angry emotions when you’ve got junk mails.

It's common for kids of all ages to experience school anxiety - school-related stress. This is often most apparent at the end of summer when school is about to start again, but it can occur year-round.Where does the stress and anxiety come from?
Teachers
A good experience with a caring teacher can cause a lasting impression on a child's life—so can a bad experience. While most teachers do their best to provide students with a positive educational experience, some students are better suited for certain teaching styles and classroom types than others. If there's a mismatch (不协调) between student and teacher, a child can form lasting negative feelings about school or his own abilities.
Friends
Friends can also be a source of stress.Concerns about not having enough friends, not being in the same class as friends, not being able to keep up with friends in one particular area or another, and interpersonal conflicts are a few of the very common ways kids can be stressed by their social lives at school.Dealing with these issues alone can cause anxiety in even the most confident kids.
Bullies (欺凌弱小者)
Things have changed in the world of bullies since I was a kid.The good news is that
teachers and parents are paying more attention. Many schools now have anti-bullying pro-
grams and policies.Though bullying does still happen, help is generally more easily accessible
than before.
The bad news is that bullying has gone high-tech.Many students use the Internet, cell phones and other media devices to bully other students, and this type of bullying often gets very aggressive. One reason is that bullies can be anonymous (匿名的) and enlist other bullies to make their targets miserable.Another reason is that they don't have to face their targets. So it's easier to get rid of any empathy that they may otherwise feel. There are ways to fight against "cyber-bullying", but many parents aren't aware of them - and many bullied kids feel too overwhelmed to deal with the situation.

It is not easy to find true friends. Even if you’ve connected with someone, how do you really know he is a true friend? And often you will find that someone who you thought you could trust may have let you down. There are ways you can know if a friendship is true and how you can hold onto that friend.
Generally speaking, a true friend is someone who will be there for you no matter what happens. They will stand by you through bad and good times. They will accept you for who you are without trying to change you, and they will be there to help you grow in new ways.
A true friend will keep you secrets for you trust him. They will be honest and be someone you can depend on. They will listen and be someone you can talk things over with, even if they may not have advice to share with you.
However, friendship is a two-way street. To find true friends and keep them, you must in turn be the same as well. Be there for them in their hard times and share the good times with them. Be someone your friends can depend on as well and offer them the same thing they give to you. A friendship will fall apart fast if only one person is giving and putting all the effort. If you are the only one making an effort, be honest and it works.
Actually, there will be barriers in the road but that is the test of true friendship. If it can survive those barriers, it will be stronger and better than ever. Just as St Thomas Aquinas put it, “There is nothing on this earth more prized than friendship.”
