Most companies will pay employees more if they have a degree.1.If you are a babysitter with a college degree, you can expect higher babysitter pay. If you have completed courses leading to an early childhood or education degree, you can also receive more than someone without those qualifications. 2.If you have more than two years of experience and a college degree, you’re very likely to get higher pay than others. If you have special knowledge or skills that are needed, you may command higher pay. 3.Another example: if you possess a degree in fine arts, and your employer-family wants their children to learn creative expressions, your creative skills (painting, sculpture, etc.) may earn you a higher income. 4.For example, if you obtained your CNA (certified nursing assistant) through your local community college, and your employer-family has a child with medical conditions, you may receive a higher pay rate.5.Just name a few here: how many children are to be attended to, what the ages of those children are, what additional responsibilities will be given to the babysitter (cooking, driving, etc.), in what country/state the babysitting is happening, and the babysitter’s ability to promote her qualifications and discuss her pay rate.
A. The same is true for babysitters.
B. Not everyone is equal in the job market.
C. Of course, other factors affect babysitter pay rates as well.
D. For instance, anyone who can play the piano can get higher pay as a babysitter.
E. Job-relevant certificates acquired through colleges may also lead to increased incomes on the job.
F. Parents will be happy to have an experienced and educated person caring for their children.
G. For example, if you know Russian and your employer-family has a child adopted from Russia, they may pay more

Are you able to tell if people are lying? There is a piece of good news that a technology company is developing a lie detector app for smart phones that could be used by parents, teachers and Internet daters. The app measures blood flow in the face to assess whether or not you are telling the truth. Its developers say that it could be used for Internet daters wanting to see if somebody really is interested in them. Parents could use it on their children to see if they are lying, and teachers could work out which pupils are truthful.
The app is being developed by Toronto startup NuraLogix and the app is called Transdermal Optical Imaging. The idea is that different human feelings create different facial blood flow patterns that we have no control over. These patterns change if we are telling the truth or telling a lie. Using footage from the smart phone camera, the app will see the changes in skin colour and compare them to standardized results.
A study finds that anger is connected with more facial blood flow and redness while sadness is connected with less of both.
Kang Lee, who has been researching the field for 20 years, said that the lie detector test will let you find out the truth remotely and secretly. He said: “It could be very useful, for example, for teachers. A lot of our students have math anxiety, but they do not want to tell us because that’s embarrassing.”
Lee added that the technology would not replace lie detectors used in a court of law. He said: "They want the accuracy to be extremely high, like genetic tests---a one-in-a-million error rate. Our technique won't be able to achieve an extremely high accuracy level, so because of that, I don't think it's useful for the courts. He added that it will be a few years before the dating app is available to consumers.
1.What is the first paragraph mainly about?
A. The operation process of the app.
B. The history of a technology company.
C. The functions and applications of the app.
D. The origin and development of the new technology.
2.What do we know about the app?
A. Its accuracy is the same as genetic tests.
B. It can help teachers pick out the honest pupils.
C. It will help see the structures of human skin.
D. It has been already on the market for a few years.
3.What can we learn from the text?
A. The technology will be applied to the medical field.
B. The technology will replace lie detectors in the court of law.
C. Different human feelings have nothing to do with facial blood flow patterns.
D. Sadness is related to less facial blood flow and redness when compared with anger.
4.What is the best title for the text?
A. The Story about Kang Lee. B. The Disadvantages of New Technology.
C. Various Smart Phones. D. A Developing App for Smart Phones.

I work at a company where there are lots of employees. I can’t say that I know them all by name, but I know my fair share of them. I think that almost all of them know me. It is all based on one simple principle: I believe that every single person deserves to be acknowledged, even though it is only a smile or a nod of the head.
When I was about ten years old, I was walking down the street with my mother. She stopped to speak to Mr. Lee. I was busy throwing stones at the stop sign. I knew I could see Mr. Lee any old time around the neighborhood, so I didn’t pay any attention to him. After we passed Mr. Lee, my mother stopped me and said something that has stuck with me from that day until now. She said, “You let that be the last time you ever walk by somebody and not open up your mouth to speak, because even a dog can wave its tail when it passes you on the street.” That phrase sounds simple, but it’s been a guidepost for me and the foundation of who I am.
At work, I always used to say hello to the founder of the company and ask him how our business was doing. But I also spoke to the people who cleaned the buildings and asked how their children were doing. I’ve become vice president, but that hasn’t changed the way I approach people. I still follow my mother’s advice. I speak to everyone I see, no matter where I am. You will realize how powerful it is just to open your mouth and say, “Hello.” I’ve learned that speaking to people creates a pathway into their world, and it lets them come into mine, too.
1.Which of the following can replace the underlined word “acknowledged” in Paragraph 1?
A.Accepted. B.Thanked.
C.Greeted. D.Respected.
2.Why did the author ignore Mr. Lee?
A.The author often met him. B.The author was too busy.
C.The author didn’t like him. D.The author didn’t know him.
3.What did the author learn from his mother?
A.Everyone should be treated fairly. B.Speak to everyone you see.
C.Polite behavior is important in your life. D.Friends may disappear from your life any time.
4.What’s the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A.To show respect for his mother. B.To share how to succeed in work.
C.To show how to approach others. D.To share an important principle.

Many managers believe that overworking is an evidence of devotion from their employees’ side. Still few others regard this custom as a threat to the worked work-life balance, which may negatively influence the level of productivity and efficiency.
Employees at Amsterdam design studio Heldergroen won’t be putting in much overtime. Not in the office, at any rate, because every day at 6:00 pm, their desks, tables and other work surfaces, with their computers attached, are lifted to the ceiling by steel cables (绳索) normally used to move heavy props (道具) in theatrical productions. If you leave a half-eaten sandwich on your desk, you’ve out of luck.
“Once the chairs and other workplace paraphernalia are cleared away, the space is free for evening and weekend use as a dance floor, yoga studio... or anything else you can think of—the floor is actually yours,” director Sander Veenendaal said.
In a way, the office space itself is working overtime for Heldergroen, bringing about lots of publicity and carrying an enlightened (有启发的) message of career-life balance far and wide. “We think that doing activities like this makes it easier for people to work here,” says Veenendaal. “You know when it is time to relax or do something else that inspires you.”
That sounds awesome. There’s just one catch. In the morning, the desks reappear and everybody has to go back to work.
1.What can we learn about the employees at Heldergroen?
A. They are unwilling to work late.
B. They are persuaded to leave the office earlier.
C. They believe overworking is an evidence of devotion.
D. They are to put away their computers after work.
2.What does the underlined word “paraphernalia” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A. Props. B. Food.
C. Equipment. D. Cables.
3.What does the author think of the Heldergroen’s office design?
A. Creative. B. Inconvenient.
C. Ordinary. D. Strange.

A Dream Realized
Zhao Yang, 33, an employee of a French company in Beijing, who has traveled extensively in the United States by motorbike.
I have been addicted to Harley-Davidson motorcycles since I was young, and knowing that motorcycle-related culture is very popular in the US, I decided to take a trip. Along with my wife and a group of fellow enthusiasts, I participated in a 15-day tour in October last year. We had one free day, so I headed to Las Vegas.
Before arriving in the US, I researched a range of materials about riding a motorbike there. I also found some classic recommended routes on Chinese websites related to Harley Davidson clubs.
With the help of their suggestions, I designed my own route.
In accordance with the rules, before I left China I visited a notary office (公证机关), where my driving license was confirmed as acceptable in the US and my documents were translated into English. Only then did I buy my basic motorcycle equipment.
When we arrived at Las Vegas, we rented a Harley Davidson and rode around the city. It was an exciting, unforgettable experience, because it was not only the achievement of a dream, but I also experienced the regional motorcycle culture in the US. As we parked the bike at the roadside, some drivers rolled down their car windows and gave us the thumbs-up, and when we drove on the road, car drivers pulled over to let us pass. We also visited a motorcycle-themed restaurant for lunch and enjoyed the fantastic decoration and delicious food.
I believe that traveling by motorcycle in the US will become popular because of the recent joint efforts to promote Sino-US tourism, especially after the two countries decided to name 2016 as US-China Tourism Year. This new style of traveling will attract more young Chinese tourists, and people like me, who have a passion for freedom and adventure, will visit the US more frequently. For example, I am planning to travel along the famous highway called Route 66 with friends during next year's Spring Festival.
If travel agencies and governments can promote the need for motorcyclists to obtain accurate information before they head to the US - such as the required documents, how to rent a motorbike and local traffic laws - "riding the range" will become a safe and great way to spend a vacation.
1.Zhao Yang’s childhood dream was to ______.

D. travel to work on a fashionable motorcycle
2.To prepare for the motorcycle trip in the USA, Zhao Yang ______.
A. made various research and checked his driving license
B. took the suggestions given and chose the classic route
C. joined one of the Harley Davidson clubs and got suggestions
D. took lots of health examinations and bought some equipment
3.How did Zhao Yang feel when driving in Las Vegas?
A. disturbed B. disappointed
C. depressed D. excited
4.Zhao Yang thinks that traveling by motorcycle in the US will ______.
A. enjoy much popularity with Sino-US tourism
B. obtain less American fans in motorcycle travel
C. get less support from the modern motorcyclists
D. meet more challenge with the information gap
