Kids can also attend interactive (互动的) workshops led by filmmakers, media professionals and celebrities. And young talent takes part in the CICFF. Elevenyearold Shiropa Purna wrote and directed Our Boat is Our Address, which is featured in the festival. “My dad is a director and he taught me many things,”Shiropa says.
A “children's jury” meets in August to watch more than 100 movies that will appear in the festival. They rate the films based on plot, character, setting, acting and sound. The jury awards more than a dozen prizes. The awards are announced at the festival's Closing Night Award Ceremony.

In one experiment, the researehers took all 200 items that Rico is supposed to know and divided them into 20 groups of 10 objects. 3 In the tests,Rico got 37 out of 40 commands right. As the dog couldn’t see anyone to get clues, the seientists believe Rico must understand the meanings of certain words.

The human face is a remarkable piece of work. The astonishing variety of facial features helps people recognize each other and is vital to the formation of complex societies. So is the face’s ability to send emotional signals, whether through an unconscious red face or the artifice of a false smile. People spend much of their waking lives reading faces, for signs of attraction, hatred, trust and fraud. They also spend plenty of time trying to hide true feelings or intentions.
Technology is rapidly catching up with the human ability to read faces. In America facial recognition is used by churches to track worshippers’ attendance; in Britain, by retailers to spot past shoplifters. In China, it confirms the identities of ride-hailing drivers, permits tourists to enter attractions and lets people pay for things with a smile. Apple’s new iPhone is expected to use it to unlock the home screen.
Set against human skills, such applications might seem incremental(增值的). Some breakthroughs, such as flight or the Internet, obviously transform human abilities; facial recognition seems merely to encode(编码) them. Although faces are unique to individuals, they are also public, so technology does not, at first sight, interfere with something that is private. And yet the ability to record, store and analyze images of faces cheaply, quickly and on a vast scale promises one day to bring about fundamental changes to opinions of privacy, fairness and trust.
Start with privacy. One big difference between faces and other biometric data, such as fingerprints, is that they work at a distance. Anyone with a phone can take a picture for facial-recognition programs to use. Facebook's bank of facial images cannot be used by others, but the Silicon Valley giant could obtain pictures of visitors to a car showroom, say, and later use facial recognition to serve them ads for cars. Law-enforcement agencies now have a powerful weapon in their ability to track criminals, but at enormous potential cost to citizens’ privacy.
The face is not just a name-tag. It displays a lot of other information—and machines can read that, too. Again, that promises benefits. Some firms are analyzing faces to provide automated diagnoses of rare genetic conditions, far earlier than would otherwise be possible. Systems that measure emotion may give autistic(孤独症的) people a grasp of social signals they find difficult.
1.Which of the following statement about facial recognition is true according to the passage?
A. It is widely applied by Chinese in many fields.
B. It is applied to track worshippers by American churches.
C. It has been applied by Apple to unlock home screen.
D. It is applied to catch thieves by police.
2.What does the third paragraph mainly talk about?
A. Flight and the Internet surely transform human abilities.
B. Facial recognition will cause fundamental changes to minds.
C. Facial expressions are not only unique but also public.
D. Facial recognition has just the same effects as other breakthroughs.
3.From the last two paragraphs, we can infer that __________.
A. the face is superior to other biometric data
B. people can keep a balance between face and privacy
C. the face has shown many benefits especially in medicine
D. fingerprints is a powerful weapon in tracking criminals
4.What is the best title of the passage?
A. Human facial expressions B. Reading faces
C. Scientific breakthroughs D. Nowhere to hide

LG Electronics, the world’s fourth largest cell phone producer, has added another feature to the mobile phone-reading books for the visually impaired(弱视). The company started marketing the model, the LF1300 on Sep.18.No other people but the blind and visually-impaired with a certificate(证书) can buy the talking phone at sales shops of LG Electronics.
“The LF1300 is the world’s first mobile phone that is capable of reading books for the print-disabled, who otherwise could not enjoy them. This is not about making money but about continuing to put froth efforts to reduce the digital difference for the disabled,” LG Vice President said.
Its users can download about 300 audio books from the Internet site of LG Sangam Library to their phones for free in two ways. One is to access the digital library’s Website on a computer designed for the blind to get the audio books and transfer them to cell phones. The other is to download the digital books directly with cell phones through the wireless net work by touching a hot key on the LF1300 phone.
On top of its unique feature of reading books, the LF1300 is no worse than the pupular top-line phones in both outlooks and frnctionalities(功能性). The phone is armed with an MP3 player and a Bluetooth headset, enabling users to listen to the music or talk without a cord. The user interface(界面) of the LF1300 is also designed for the blind, enabling phone users to control it through a voice guidance system.

1.________ are allowed to buy the talking phone.
A.Disabled people with a certificate
B.All the blind and poor-sighted people
C.The blind and poor-sighted with a certificate
D.Both healthy and disabled citizens

高二英语阅读理解困难题查看答案及解析
Along with its neighbors, Sweden features near the top of most sex-equality rankings. The World Economic Forum rates it as having one of the narrowest sex gaps in the world. Sweden is not only a good place for a woman, but it appears to be one for new dads. Close to ninety percent of Swedish fathers take paternity leave (陪产假). Last year some 340,000 dads took a total of 12 million days’ leave, that is, approximately seven weeks each. Women take even more leave days to spend time with their children, but the gap is shrinking. Why do Swedish dads take so much time off work to raise their children?
Forty years ago Sweden became the first country in the world to introduce a paid parental-leave allowance. Benefits consisted of ninety percent of wages for 180 days per child, and parents were free to share the days between them in whatever way they pleased. But the policy was hardly a hit with dads: in the policy’s first year men took only 0.5% of all paid parental leave.
Today they take a quarter of it. One reason is that the policy has become more generous, with the number of paid leave days for the first child increasing from 180 to 480. In 1995 the first so-called “daddy month” was introduced. Under this reform, families in which each parent took at least one month of leave received an additional month to add to their total allowance. The policy was expanded in 2002 so that if the mother and father each took at least two months’ leave, the family would get two extra months. Some politicians now want to go further, advocating that the present system of shared leave be turned into one of personal rights, under which mothers should be allowed to take only half of the family’s allowance, with the rest reserved for fathers.
Since Swedish men started to take more responsibility for child upbringing, women have seen both their incomes and levels of self-reported happiness increase. Paying dads to change nappies(尿布) and hang out at playgrounds seems to benefit the whole family.
1.What can be a suitable title for the passage?
A. Swedish Sex Equality B. Swedish Fathers’ Paternity Leave
C. Swedish New Dad Policy D. Swedish New Fathers’ Family Role
2.Why does Sweden appear a good place for new dads?
A. Sweden has the smallest global sex gap.
B. They feed their children instead of mothers.
C. Most of them are provided with paternity leave.
D. Swedish fathers take more leave days than mothers.
3.How has the policy changed over time?
A. Fathers can have longer paternity leave.
B. Paternity leave decreases fathers’ incomes.
C. Fathers take more responsibility than mothers.
D. Leave days are divided equally between parents.
