Some people say that the best way to reduce the size of your waist is to do stomach exercise. Many people believe that when specific muscles are exercised, the fatty tissues (组织) in the immediate area are burned up. The truth is that exercise burns fat from all over the body and not from one specific area. Of course, if you reduce the fat throughout your body, you will certainly see results around your waist too.
Some people believe that you need to exercise twice a week in order to keep a sufficient level of physical fitness. However, studies directed by American scientists show that unexercised muscles lose their strength very quickly. Within 48 to 72 hours, you must use the muscles again to reestablish (重建) the good physical effects. And what does that mean to you? American scientists concluded that while daily exercise is most helpful, exercising every other day or three days a week will keep a sufficient level of physical fitness.
Is it true that you burn more calories running one mile than walking the same distance? The answer is no. The truth is that you use the same amount of energy whether you walk or run the mile, since in both cases you are moving the same weight the same distance. The speed does not matter. Of course, if you run rather than walk for 30 minutes, you will cover more distance, and therefore burn more calories.
If your breathing doesn’t return to normal within 5 minutes after you finish exercising, you have exercised too much. Five minutes or so after exercising, your breathing should be normal, your heart shouldn’t be beating loudly, and you shouldn’t be tired.

A.do stomach exercise | B.exercise the waist |
C.exercise all the muscles of your body | D.run fast for 30 minutes |

A.we only need to exercise twice a week |
B.we should exercise three times a week |
C.muscles lose their strength after 48 hours |

B.whether you run one mile or walk the same distance, you use the same amount of energy |
C.you will lose more weight running one mile than walking the same distance |
D.both A and B |
4.If you have exercised too much, _______.
A.your breathing will take longer than 5 minutes to return to normal after you finish exercising |
B.your breathing will return to normal within 5 minutes after finishing exercising |
C.your heart will not be beating loudly |

A.it is better to do more running than walking |
B.the more exercise you do, the healthier you will be |
C.the unexercised muscles must be used again within 48 to 72 hours |

You know the saying “You’re as young as you feel." Well, there may be some truth to that, according to researchers at Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Ellen Langer, a Harvard psychologist who studies how the mind influences the body, and colleagues reviewed the scientific literature for evidence that a person’s perception of their age might influence their health. They published their results in the journal Perspectives on Psychological Science.
In one study that Langer led, 47 women had their hair done. The women who thought their new hairdos made them look younger did look younger to objective observers, who were shown before-and-after pictures. The women who thought they looked younger also showed a drop in blood pressure. Another study involving 4,421 men found that those who became bald at a relatively young age were more likely to get cancer and heart disease than men who did not. Similarly, another study involving 2,017 men found that those who lost their hair early were more likely to develop heart disease. “We believe that the feelings associated with being older than one’s real age account for some of these health outcomes,” the researchers wrote.
The researchers also described studies that found that women who had children later in life were more likely to be healthier and live longer than those who had children early, which they attributed to the fact that these mothers tend to spend more time with younger women. Similarly, people who marry younger partners tend to live longer than those who marry older partners, according to other studies.
Taken together, the research “supports the general mind-body hypothesis (假说) that when a younger mind is prepared, a younger body can accompany it.” While the mechanism(机制) remains unclear, the researchers figured that suggestions associated with aging can “make one unconsciously or consciously aware of old age and set in motion a series of physiological processes that can have real effects on short-term and long-term health."
1.What’s the author’s attitude towards the research results?
A.Negative. B.Indifferent.
C.Supportive. D.Objective.
2.Which of the following statements is true according to paragraph 3?
A.Blood pressure is highly related to hairdos.
B.Getting cancer or heart disease is the cause of hair losing.
C.Feeling older than real age may be tied to health problems.
D.The women who love hairdos look younger than those don’t.
3.It can be inferred from Paragraph 4 that ________.
A.often staying with younger people can benefit people's health
B.the younger one of a couple lives much longer
C.a younger mother is more likely to live longer
D.people who want to live longer need to marry
4.The passage mainly tells us that ________.
A.Getting bald too early is not good for health
B.People’s feeling of their age may have an effect on their own health
C.Feeling younger to a couple is very important to their health

Money is the root of all evil and new study claims there may be some truth behind the saying. Scientists at the University of California. Berkeley, US,announced on February 27 that rich people are more likely to do unethical (不道德的)things, such as lie or cheat, than poorer people.
The scientists did a series of eight experiments. They published their findings online in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS,《美国国家科学院院刊》).
They carried out the first two experiments from the sidewalk near Berkeley. They noted that drivers of newer and more expensive cars were more likely to cut off other cars and pedestrians at crosswalks. Nearly 45 percent of people driving expensive cars ignored a pedestrian compared with only 30 percent of people driving more modest (不豪华的)cars.
In another experiment,a group of college students was asked if they would do unethical things in various everyday situations. Examples included taking printer paper from work and not telling a salesperson when he or she gave back more change. Students from higher-class families were more likely to act dishonestly.
According to the scientists, rich people often think money can get them out of trouble. This makes them less afraid to take risks. It also means they care less about other people’s feelings.
Finally,it simply makes them greedier. “Higher wealth status seems to make you want even more, and that increased want leads you to bend the rules or break the rules to serve your self-interest,’’said Paul Piif, lead scientist of the study.
Piff pointed out that the findings don’t mean that all rich people are untrustworthy(不能信赖的)or all poor people honest. He said the experiments were to show how people living in different social situations express their instincts and values in different ways.
1.By saying “money is the root of all evil”,the author wants to___________.
A. draw readers’ attention to the research
B. link wealth with bad behavior
C. show how the saying proves the findings
D. defend rich people who do unethical things
2.Which of the following is TRUE about the experiments the scientists did, according to the scientist quoted?
A. Most wealthy people are not trustworthy.
B. The findings were not persuasive enough and the scientists will do further experiments.
C. Drivers of more expensive cars are more likely to break traffic rules.
D. Students from poorer families are not as honest as students from richer families.
3.Why did the scientists do the experiments?
A. To show how social status affects people's ethics.
B. To show people’s instincts and values in different ways.
C. To test whether the saying “money is the root of all evil” is true.
D. To show the difference between higher-class people and lower-class people.
4.What does the article really want to show us?
A. Money is the root of all evil.
B. The rich are more likely to act badly.
C. The saying is reasonable.
D. All rich people are untrustworthy.
