Fresh flowers actually continue to grow while in a vase.So in order to keep flowers fresh, you need to consider what the flowers need to grow and stay healthy.Flowers need water, light, and food.Besides, you need to be aware of a few precautions to take.
Distilled water(蒸馏水) is the best kind of water to use for fresh flowers, because there are no chemicals in it.Change the water for your fresh flowers every day or no less than every 2 days to prevent bacteria(细菌) building up.Cut the stems under water again before putting them back in the vase, so that they will be able to draw water up easily.
Keep your fresh flowers out of direct sunlight. At night, put them in the fridge. This will prolong their life.Adding commercial flower food to good water is probably the best method of keeping flowers fresh. Some people put sugar in the water for food. That is OK, but commercial flower food has bacteria-killing ingredients, which can make the water more acidic(酸性的).If you want a more natural food for your fresh flowers, try water that has been specially treated. That solution will also give the water acidity, sugar, and bacteria-killing ability.
Keep your fresh flowers away from fruit.Fruit gas, or ethylene, will reduce the life of your fresh flowers, making them get older faster.Ethylene is what makes fruit ripen. It is given off by dead flowers, too, so be sure to remove them.
If you follow these tips, your fresh flowers will last a long time and beautify any room in which you put them.

Though some people have suggested that women should return to housework in order to leave more jobs for men, the idea has been rejected by both women and men in public opinion polls(民意测验).Lately some union officials have suggested that too many women are employed in type of work more suitable for men and that women should step aside to make way for unemployed young men. They argue that women — — especially women in their childbearing years actually delay economic development and result in lower productivity, poor quality and inefficiency.
To solve the problem, they have suggested that the working women stay at home while their husbands or brothers were given double wages. They argue that under these circumstances ~families would retain their same level of income, and women could run the house and raise children much better.
The suggestion has been rejected by 9 out of 10 people polled.A hundred persons in a big city were questioned last summer.Out of 50 women, 46 said they were unwilling to leave their jobs, no matter what the situation was.The other 4 said they would like to return home if their jobs could be taken by their sons or daughters.Of 50 men polled, only 6 said they would like to see their wives give up their jobs, if it meant higher wages for themselves.
Some other people have suggested another way called “phased employment theory ”.The theory suggests that a woman worker take leave from her job when she is seven months pregnant(妊娠) and stay off the job until her baby reaches the age of 3.It suggests that women on leave receive 75 percent of their normal salary and be allowed to return to work after the 3—year period. This will benefit children, women, their families and the society. Some of those polled, both women and men, felt the idea is a good one.It definitely seems to be more acceptable than the suggestion that women return to home forever.

Girls continue to outperform boys in all subjects by the end of primary school in England, according to the latest key stage 2 test results published by the Department for Education.
Across England, 65% of pupils in state schools achieved the government’s expected standards in the three subjects, a 1% improvement on 2018. The widening of the gender gap was caused mainly by a dip in the proportion of boys reaching the expected standard in reading, which fell from 72% in 2018 to 69%. In maths, boys and girls improved by 3% but girls remained slightly ahead at 79% to 78%.
The latest Sats results are the continuation of trends seen for many years. In Britain, girls consistently outperform boys, with the exception of advanced maths-based subjects. In the most recent GCSE results girls showed improved performances, despite the introduction of more difficult exams.
There were substantial regional variations in the results, with pupils in London generally doing better than in other parts of England. Only 53% of boys in Dudley, in the Midlands, reached the expected standards in the three key subjects, compared with 83% of girls in the wealthy borough of Richmond-upon-Thames.
Also, the gap in performance between disadvantaged pupils and their classmates remains stubbornly wide, suggesting efforts to close it have slowed or been ineffective.
About 51% of children from disadvantaged backgrounds achieved the expected standards in maths, reading and writing, the same as in 2018, while the proportion of non-disadvantaged pupils hitting the standard rose to 71%. That leaves the gap between the two groups little changed for the last three years, with the DfE’s statisticians warning that it might widen slightly when the final figures for 2019 are published.
Paul Whiteman, the general secretary of the National Association of Head Teachers, said children from disadvantaged families were the victims of austerity (经济紧缩). “Successive governments have failed to invest in those who need it the most, and now we see the result - a sustained long-term gap over many years between disadvantaged pupils and pupils from more affluent families.” In 2019 30% of pupils at the end of key stage 2 were classed as being disadvantaged. Nick Gibb, the minister for school standards, said the gap had noticeably decreased over the last eight years and that government reforms since 2010 have helped “ level the playing field”.
