TIPPING
How much and who on your cruise(乘船旅游) should be tipped? When and how should tips be given? Generally, you should plan to tip your room steward (服务员) $3.00 to $3.50 per person, per day, and plan an equal amount for your dining room waiter, and half of that for the busboy(餐厅侍者助手).
On most ships, tip the maitre d’(侍者总管) or dining room captain only if you ask for special favors or table-side service; $5 to $10 is normal. Barmen and wine stewards are tipped 10 to 15 percent, but many cruise lines will add this tip to your bar or drink bill. Check the bill to see how it is handled. Also, tips for special services such as salon && spa treatments and room service are left to the guest, depending on services offered. Sometimes tips are placed in envelopes from your cabin’s stationery supply. Generally, passengers on cruises of 10 days or less will tip at the end of the cruise; on longer voyages, tipping weekly.
As part of a new trend that seems likely to grow, Carnival, Holland America, Norwegian, Princess and Cunard now charge tips to your account (账). Norwegian, for example, charges $10 per day, per guest, to cover service in the various dining rooms and your room steward. If you feel this amount needs to be increased or decreased, arrangements can be made onboard the ship, generally at the end of your cruise.
A few lines do not encourage tipping, including Radisson Seven Seas, Seabourn, Silversea and Windstar. Crew members are reportedly higher paid and not tip dependent. Many passengers tip anyway for outstanding service or special favors and give them tips face to face immediately they get serviced.

Planning a cruise on a budget often involves searching for the best cruise deals and specials. While it's true that one of the best ways to save on cruises is to choose major lines' seasonal promotional offers, there are other ways to significantly reduce the cost of your trip. You might even be able to enjoy a cruise on as little as $100 a day.
We consulted with Colleen McDaniel, senior executive editor of Cruise Critic, to get even more money-saving tips. Read on to discover how you can enjoy cruises for cheap.
Purchase an all-inclusive package
An easy way to rack up(增加) a high cruise bill is by taking advantage of every extra that a cruise line has to offer without knowing which extras are included in the package you've purchased. If you're worried about spending too much on activities, beverages, food and accommodations, book an all-inclusive package, which could help you save money in the long run.
Seek unadvertised discounts
Though they don't always advertise them, many cruise lines offer special prices for certain groups. Royal Caribbean, for example, extends special pricing on all cruises to airline employees.
Call the cruise line to find out if it offers discounts for any groups, employers or organizations you are affiliated with, and you could save up to S100 or more a day on your booking.
Use an app to track prices
If you can be flexible with your travel dates, you might be able to get a great deal on a cruise by using an app like Cruise Critic. The app lets you monitor prices of upcoming cruises and informs you of any major changes on prices as the days go by. If the price on your cruise drops after you've booked, you can contact the cruise line to negotiate the difference. The cruise line might refund you in the form of an onboard credit that you can use for cruise activities and other amenities during your trip.
Look for local deals
Many cruise-goers extend their vacations by booking stays and planning activities in port cities before and after the cruise. If this is your plan, save money on dining and adventures by looking for local deals ahead of time.
1.According to the passage, who might get unadvertised discounts of Royal Carribbean?
A. Senior editors.
B. Royal members.
C. Airline employees.
D. Local cruise-goers.
2.The main purpose of the passage is to____.
A. advertise a cruise app
B. present the advantages of a cruise
C. inform people of what to do on a cruise
D. offer tips on saving money for a cruise trip
3.The passage is most probably taken from a ______.
A. sailing blog
B. science journal
C. travel brochure
D. finance magazine

For those of you who were born in the year of the pig, good luck and much success! This is your year.
When talking to a Westerner, however, you’ve got to be a little careful when you talk about pigs. Chinese people view the pig as a smart and prosperous (rich, lucky) animal. Western ideas tend to be a little more negative(否定的).
A pig in the West is seen as a dirty, lazy, and fat animal. If anyone ever called you a pig, you wouldn’t be smiling. When a person doesn’t like someone, sometimes he will call that person a pig.
If you ever meet a Westerner who was born in the year of the pig, don’t say, “ Oh, you’ re a pig!” Most Westerners will be understanding. They will be sure that you made some kind of mistake. However, don’t take any chances. You might just offend (触怒)someone who does not share your positive ideas about pigs.
1.
According to the passage we can see that Chinese people think of the pig as a ________ animal.
A. clever B. rich C. good D. all the above
2.
A Westerner will call someone a pig if he ______ that man.
A. dislikes B. is afraid of C. looks up to D. makes fun of

高二英语单项填空简单题查看答案及解析
A serious problem for today’s society is who should be responsible for our elderly and how to improve their lives. It is not only a financial problem but also a question of the system we want for our society. I would like to suggest several possible solutions to this problem.
First, employers should take the responsibility for their retired employees. To make this possible, a percentage of profits should be set aside for this purpose. But when a company must take life-long responsibility for its employees, it may suffer from a commercial disadvantage due to higher employee costs.
Another way of solving the problem is to return the responsibility to the individual. This means each person must save during his working years to pay for his years of retirement. This does not seem a very fair model since some people have enough trouble paying for their daily life without trying to earn extra to cover their retirement years. This means the government might have to step in to care for the poor.
In addition, the government could take responsibility for the care of the elderly. This could be financed through government taxes to increase the level of pensions. Furthermore, some institutions should be created for senior citizens, which can help provide a comfortable life for them. Unfortunately, as the present situation in our country shows, this is not a truly viable answer. The government can seldom afford to care for the elderly, particularly when it is busy trying to care for the young.
One further solution is that the government or social organizations establish some working places especially for the elderly where they are independent.
To sum up, all these options have advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, it is reasonable to expect that some combination of these options may be needed to provide the care we hope to give to our elderly generations.
1.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this article?
A. To discuss some possible solutions to an important social problem.
B. To make general readers aware of the problems of retired people.
C. To point out the need for government support for old people.
D. To instruct retired people on how they can have a happier life.
2.What does the underlined word “viable” most probably mean?
A. Impossible. B. Practical. C. Useful. D. Successful.
3.According to the passage, how can the government help to improve the lives of retired people?
A. Set aside some profits to help people with problems after they retire.
B. Increase savings levels of people during their working years.
C. Increase the discounts for food and transport for the old.
D. Make available pensions for those who have retired.
4.What can be concluded from the passage?
A. Taking care of the old is mainly an issue of money.
B. Employers should allow their workers to retire at a later age.
C. Becoming independent should be the goal of most old people.
D. There is no single solution to the problems of the old.
